Suggestions for mumsnet forum improvement

I think it'd be great if they used features like thumbs up / thumbs down or just thumbs up that we can "vote/support" other people's comments on people's threads as would prevent everyone repeating the same thing just to reiterate to the OP that there's lots of us thinking the same thing.

Also, perhaps a way to reply to a specific comment by having a reply which will box quote the person's comment and can write reply underneath it rather than bother with @ user name.

Not sure if mumsnet has a feedback contact so thought I'd post here and see what people think? A lot of forums have these features and I think it would be a great addition for this one.

OP posts:

It seems that some people want MN to be like every other forum. I think it's because it isn't like every other forum is what makes it better.

It's MN Talk not MN Vote.

Lweji · 05/01/2019 16:19

Now, if we were talking about a troll detector, that would be nice.

Lweji · 05/01/2019 16:21

Or a glitterball button.

I'm still waiting for the [devil] smiley. Sad

You do learn some interesting things though. Today I learned that it’s posdible to wash my sofa cushion covers and they go easier when they’re damp.

So it’s a big old 🤙 from me for the advice but a 👎 for your thumb suggestion.

TSSDNCOP · 05/01/2019 16:22

Would that be a bridge emoji Lweji or a hairy hand?

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2019 16:23

[kitten]

One day it will work.

GnothiSeafton · 05/01/2019 16:29

But we already have a glitterball Glitterball, Lweji, although admittedly it isn't a 'button'.

We need TheMaddHugger with one of her kitten gifs?!

Lweji · 05/01/2019 16:31

Yes, a button would make all the difference.

Lweji · 05/01/2019 16:32

A troll detector would be a button that once it reached a certain number the thread or the post would explode.

endofthelinefinally · 05/01/2019 16:33

I like the fact that Mumsnet is a discussion forum for people to use words and express their thoughts and opinions in interesting and articulate language.
It would be such a shame to dumb it down.
There are plenty of other forums if people don't like Mumsnet.

EnidButton · 05/01/2019 16:36

So basically Reddit?

Lweji · 05/01/2019 16:38

AFAIK, there's a parallel Reddit board that lurks MN.

You might find yourself happier there, OP.

BarbaraofSevillle · 05/01/2019 16:39

Can the people who don't want thumbs up please explain why?

Because the alternative seems to be a hundred people posting exactly the same comment and it seems kind of pointless and boring.

StoorieHoose · 05/01/2019 16:40

Of course people can suggest new stuff but at least have a look round the site beforehand and you will find that probably someone has suggested them many many times before

NOTthepinkranger · 05/01/2019 16:43

I just want an eye roll emoji

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2019 16:45

NOT isn't Hmm an eyeroll?

GnothiSeafton · 05/01/2019 16:46

It would be a good replacement for the biscuit, I think!

NOTthepinkranger · 05/01/2019 16:46

To me that’s more of an oh really? Face

NOTthepinkranger · 05/01/2019 16:47

I haven’t described what I mean very well haha

SoupDragon · 05/01/2019 16:47

🙄

StarJazmin · 05/01/2019 16:47

What we have a glitterball?

Glitterball

How exciting!

No fiddly quotes and upvoting please. You can go elsewhere for those, MN doesn’t need to have the same features as every other forum on the interweb, it has its own feel and culture.

GnothiSeafton · 05/01/2019 16:48

That's a raised eyebrow. Eye roll could be good.

I use each differently IRL!

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2019 16:49

If the MN smileys aren't good enough I guess there's always the ones on phones. Although I prefer the MN ones.

Not keen on the hearts for eyes or the crying with laughter faces.

NOTthepinkranger · 05/01/2019 16:52

People tend to moan about the use of Apple emojis on here though for some strange reason

NigellasGuest · 05/01/2019 16:53

I like it how it is now thanks
