I’ve had a look and there seems to be confusion of whether the decorations should come down on 5th it 6th. So what do you do in your family?

I would normally take them down on the 6th but the tree is rapidly shedding needles so I'm doing it today. Might leave the door wreath until.tomorrow though.

3out · 05/01/2019 10:28

I always thought it was the 6th (Epiphany). Ours will come down then.

Most of mine are down already (tree down on new years eve to create space) Just need to take my icicles down from the front of the house. I'm not superstitious though so don't really care about the date

ThanosSavedMe · 05/01/2019 10:30

I always thought the 6th too but I’ve had a google and it looks like traditionally it’s the 5th but with some saying the 6th.

Mine went down on New Year’s Day.

ThanosSavedMe · 05/01/2019 10:30

I’m not a superstitious person either so am confused as to why this is bothering me this year!

I've taken the decorations off this morning and will do lights and tree later. Didn't really want to take it down at all but we have a bookcase being delivered tomorrow that going in its space.

Greycat11 · 05/01/2019 10:37

I always take it as last day today so we will still have tree lights on tonight then down tomorrow without switching them back on in morning.

Doyoumind · 05/01/2019 10:40

I've always thought it was 5th they should come down so mine are going today.

ThanosSavedMe · 05/01/2019 10:42

Ok guys, you’re not helping 😃

Mine came down yesterday. We always count the 5th as the 12th night so it had to be down by today.

IKillEveryBloodyThreadIPostOn · 05/01/2019 10:47

Mine came down on the 27th Grin

Them down ASAP

ThePortlyPinUp · 05/01/2019 10:50

I took mine down yesterday as I thought 12th night was today.

SoyDora · 05/01/2019 10:51

Suppose it can be the 5th or 6th really. 5th is ‘twelfth night’ but if you were celebrating the 12th night then you’d probably take them down on the 6th when the celebrations are over.

Starlight90 · 05/01/2019 10:52

New years day. Doesn’t feel like Christmas after then so mine come down. I like them up at the end of November as i like the build up. Feels Christmassy then.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/01/2019 10:59

It's not superstition, it's religion, isn't it (though some would no doubt argue that they're one and the same!)?

Anyway, it come down when you take it down, so ours was 1st Jan, so it was done before I went back to work on 2nd.

dementedpixie · 05/01/2019 11:11

It is superstition as is it not supposed to be bad luck to leave them up longer. Or that if they are up later you need to leave them up all year

NoWordForFluffy · 05/01/2019 11:21

I've no idea actually as I'm not superstitious in the slightest! I just subscribe to the take it down whenever you feel like movement. 🎄

shecamefromgreece · 05/01/2019 11:26

I'm taking the last bits down today, the trees went yesterday as the were dead and I couldn't look at them anymore.
My kids are so upset about the decorations coming down this year! The two youngest have said that the nativity set has to stay up as the kings don't get there until Sunday, I couldn't really argue with that so it's staying until the go to bed on Sunday.

Lolipoplady · 05/01/2019 11:31

Tonight is the 12th night, the night that the wise men arrived at the stable, so mine stay up tonight and come down tomorrow as Christmas is then officially over! 😉 It is epiphany tomorrow though which is a feast day in many countries, so some places/people do still keep their decorations up.
