Woman in vegetative state gives birth

Police in Phoenix are investigating after a woman who has been in a vegetative state for 10 YEARS gave birth.

I have no words... I feel so sorry for that poor woman, her family and the baby who will grow up effectively an orphan. How did no-one notice she was pregnant?! How does this happen in a supposedly civilised country??

That place needs to be shut down immediately because they are obviously unable to provide any level of care at all.

amusedbush · 04/01/2019 20:30

What?? I’m sure that was an (uncomfortable) storyline in Private Practice several years ago. I’m disgusted that this could actually happen Sad

allupsidedown · 04/01/2019 20:30

This is horrendous. I hope the baby is safe, away from the rapist. What kind of monster would do this? Just awful. Poor woman and poor baby.

BentNeckLady · 04/01/2019 20:33

Keeping people alive in a vegatative state for 10 years is almost as abhorrent as the story.

Ham beings can be absolutely awful.

BentNeckLady · 04/01/2019 20:33

Human beings

zen1 · 04/01/2019 20:33

Sick bastard. Hope they identify him.

CormoranStrike · 04/01/2019 20:34

I feel sick.

What an abuse of power. What a complete lack of dignity.

Hopefully the man responsible will be severely punished.

That poor woman.

SmilingButClueless · 04/01/2019 20:35

Why does the article say ‘apparently’ raped? She could hardly give consent!

It is the DM though, so I suppose that’s the closest they could get to admitting a man might have done something wrong

Villanelley · 04/01/2019 20:35

Men are fucking repulsive creatures.

Isleepinahedgefund · 04/01/2019 20:35

Goodness, that’s sick.

Luckily in the USA they’re not shy of handing out seriously long sentences to rapists.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 04/01/2019 20:37

Why does the article say ‘apparently’ raped? She could hardly give consent!

I wondered that too. I mean there can be zero doubt here. She was raped.

macaroniandpizza · 04/01/2019 20:38

This story saddens me its such a horrible thing to do to someone in a vegetative state while also keeping her alive in such a state isnt kind either. I appreciate that others might not hold the same viewpoint as me on that note and thats okay too

RedForShort · 04/01/2019 20:39

In a vegative state is a person aware of what is happening to them? (Is that possible to tell?)

Brahumbug · 04/01/2019 20:40

Men are fucking repulsive creatures.

No, the man who did this is a repulsive rapist and should be locked up and the key thrown away. Don't make repulsive generalisations.

Haggisfish · 04/01/2019 20:41

Maybe there might be a suggestion she was artificially inssminated?! Just occurred to me there. This story, along with the one about the lady with disabilities not receiving her full compensation because it was partly her fault, really do make me think we are walking back into the handmaids tale. Absolutely outrageous.

Jocasta2018 · 04/01/2019 20:41

I read this and I felt sick.

They DNA test every male, the rapist is caught, prisoned and chemically castrated.

It might also be worth swabbing the sexual organs of other patients, both male and female, also in vegetative states or comas. If this is someone's perversion then they might be carrying out assaults on others.

midsomermurderess · 04/01/2019 20:48

The Almodovar film Talk to Me comes to mind.

Villanelley · 04/01/2019 20:50

Don't make repulsive generalisations.

You're as entitled to your opinion as anyone else but don't you dare tell me what to think.

choli · 04/01/2019 20:51

Anyone remember Brimstone and Treacle?

NotMyCircusMonkeys · 04/01/2019 20:53

@RedForShort

The Daily Mail article says that she was 'moaning' whilst in labour so I'd assume some level of awareness, yes Sad

I also agree that keeping someone alive for 10 years in a vegetative state is cruel. I certainly wouldn't want it for myself or my family.

OP posts:
lotusbell · 04/01/2019 21:00

It is also worrying that they were alerted to her labour from her moaning which indicates she can feel pain and is aware? So the 24/7 round the clock care failed horrifically, not just in the fact this happened but the fact her vegetative state is perhaps not as vegetative as they thought. How can they be so hands on yet not realise her belly growing? That poor poor woman.

OccasionallyIncomplet · 04/01/2019 21:00

Like that scene in Kill Bill - men pay to have sex with the patients.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 04/01/2019 21:02

Exactly lotus. There is nowhere near the level of care happening there that there should be. This will just be the tip of the iceberg.

Mooey89 · 04/01/2019 21:03

This is so awful.

Soubriquet · 04/01/2019 21:05

Im more disgusted by the fact they are not releasing any names due to possible assault

The woman is in a coma!! She can’t consent. There was no assault. It was just plain rape

I don’t want to know her name for the her sake and the child’s but it should not be covered up because of possible assault!
