Woman in vegetative state gives birth

Police in Phoenix are investigating after a woman who has been in a vegetative state for 10 YEARS gave birth.

I have no words... I feel so sorry for that poor woman, her family and the baby who will grow up effectively an orphan. How did no-one notice she was pregnant?! How does this happen in a supposedly civilised country??

also with her being in a v.state from such a young age she will have developed but not quite the same way as other young women, she will look quite young Sad urgh what a grim sad case, i have my only feelings about keeping someone on a machine 14 years Sad

Ticcinalong · 25/01/2019 16:48

Her family have denied she is in a vegetative state and said she has learning disabilities. Not taking away from the awfulness of what has been done.

staydazzling · 25/01/2019 17:05

really? no it definitely doesn't but wow that would be some bad reporting.

Yulebealrite · 25/01/2019 17:07

It's not 14 years, it's 26 years.

staydazzling · 25/01/2019 17:10

26 years old or on a machine?

From my reading about this case, the diagnosis is PVS but the family say she can respond to familiar voices and has some limited movement. They describe her as significantly intellectually impaired. The brain injury was as a result of a drowning incident when she was 3. She is now 26.

It's my understanding that people in PVS don't always need ventilating and life support.

I suppose first of all his defense team will demand their own dna test, when that proves he is the father no doubt he will say they had a relationship and it was consensual. Her family have said that she responds to music and stuff and can move her head and arms a little, no doubt his legal team will try and use that to get him off. That poor girl, she has had no life and has been failed miserably by the people who are supposed to be caring for her. Shocking and disgusting.

There was a news piece I saw on my Bloomberg terminal yesterday about the arrest and the investigations being conducted. It's a shame I can't find it. Basically the authorities are investigating how she was raped to ascertain if others have been raped and/or assulted (male and female patients), then there is an investigation into how the pregnancy wasn't identified earlier and then there is an investigation into the management of the relationships between patients to identify if there has inappropriate relationships.

It's seems like there is a lot more going on behind the scenes and it was noted in the article that authorities are concerned because so many staff quit once it came out, consistent with organized and systematic abuse of patients. I hope the investigations identify the people who enabled this and that they rot in jail.

I'm not surprised Want2bSupermum, sadly when standards of care and safeguarding go out the window it creates an environment that allows predatory abusers to abuse freely. Makes me shudder to think how much she endured (and if it eas just him) and who else he and possibly others abused. Total voilation of a position of trust.

Oh Wanttobesupermum
That's awful. 😰😡

staydazzling · 25/01/2019 20:56

ah the CEO was a predator and known about for years, no wonder he couldn't resign fast enough and board of governers knew since 2006, Hmm just read an article ill link.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 25/01/2019 21:36

Thanks for the link staydazzling. Cant believe what im reading though:

"Ultimately, the Board reprimanded Timmons and also enforced serious consequences for his conduct," Pomeroy said in the statement. "Corrective action included counseling and more than 30 training sessions in a number of areas. Timmons was also forced to forego financial bonuses and raises."

Thats an incredible amount of bending over backwards to keep on a creep that quite obviously should have been sacked. Rotten from the top to bottom. No wonder Nathan Sutherland was able to run amok unhindered.

Exactly, it's so astpundinastounding, places where these atrocities happen, are often 'cultures' rather than just one person acting out , thoughts with the people and families must be horrendous left with the worry.
