If you ruled the country

If you were suddenly made a benign dictator of your country, what rules would you bring in?

I'd probs need to rule more than one country, but I'd ban all advertising of cosmetics - especially the ones whose claims are all self-reporting from a handful of testers and have no empirical validity.

And I'd limit smoking to special bunkers where it can't contaminate those who haven't chosen to smoke.

jessstan2 · 04/01/2019 11:09

Be excellent to each other.

StoorieHoose · 04/01/2019 11:10

I would forbid all film remakes and cover versions of songs

LostInShoebiz · 04/01/2019 11:13

No more buskers and no more begging, proper services to support the homeless instead.

CallMeSirShotsFired · 04/01/2019 11:19

Everybody gets a chauffeur for one day a week.

Free comfy slippers for all.

Everyone can work flexitime.

Everyone gets a priority slot at the shop of their choosing where they get first dibs on all the stock and any till they want to use.

(Oh sorry, were we meant to be changing the world or just having a lighthearted laugh?)

Parsleyisntfood · 04/01/2019 11:24

Everyone has to resist a full driving test every 5 years.
I am the final judge of what’s on tv.
One afternoon a week everyone just got to shut up. Electricity goes off and everyone wander of for a seat. Hospitals get a free pass i guess.

safariboot · 04/01/2019 11:27

I would declare war on StoorieHoose's country.

BlingLoving · 04/01/2019 11:28

all childcare would be tax free. You can't encourage people back go work if they have to spend the first 1/3 of their year just paying the tax on their earnings without enough left to pay for the childcare. Plus, using external childcare generates jobs and is generally good for the economy. I would even consider making private school fees tax free, but that one is more contentious I know.

Thatsalovelycuppatea · 04/01/2019 11:32

That disabled and people who Need help, get help.

Second thing I would do is change the rules for Jobseeker's Allowance. If you don't turn up to an interview after a fifth time. Your on your own. I hear it from the employers side and it sucks when only 2 out of 30 turn up. People should get money stopped if they are lazy and can't be arsed to actually get a job.

JaneJeffer · 04/01/2019 11:36

safari shots fired Grin
I would demand 5% of everyone's income for being an awesome leader

chickendrizzlecake · 04/01/2019 11:39

Every public toilet would have to have a coat/bag hook on the back of door, and you would be fined if you didn’t provide one.

veggiepigsinpastryblankets · 04/01/2019 11:45

Further to chicken's rule above, all cubicles in the Ladies to be made wide enough to accommodate a sanitary bin without it touching your thighs when you sit down.

Hoverers who don't clean up after themselves (absent mobility issues) to be deported.

veggiepigsinpastryblankets · 04/01/2019 11:48

Oh, and a major housebuilding programme, all infrastructure to be nationalised and run for the public good not for profit, a new economic system that acknowledges that as technology advances there will be fewer jobs and that's not poor people's fault, etc etc. But only after the people who wee on the seat have been identified and removed.

shpoot · 04/01/2019 11:49

I'd pay our services more than double what they get now and sort out the sorry state of our prisons and the justice system

morningconstitutional2017 · 04/01/2019 12:18

Everyone who is fit and able should keep their front garden and/or frontage litter and weed free.

Parking at hospitals would be free on showing an attendant your appointment letter.

formerbabe · 04/01/2019 12:21

18 years maternity leave at full pay Grin

StoorieHoose · 04/01/2019 12:24

safariboot I would battle your breathy female cover versions with with perfectly good original versions!

abacucat · 04/01/2019 12:29

Make it compulsory that whenever a cover version is played on the radio or a recording, that there has to be an announcement played that the original version was better.

Cancel Brexit

Cancel Trident

Cap salary differentials in the workplace to a multiple of ten

Link MP salaries to the national average wage

Create a time bank for lifelong learning to make it much easier to go back to studying mid-career

Massive subsidies for childcare

Massive subsidies for green energy initiatives

A big boot up the jacksie for Farage, Johnson, Rees-Mogg, and Philip Green

That'll do for starters :-)

StoorieHoose · 04/01/2019 12:33

Yes abacucat!

Gth1234 · 04/01/2019 12:40

The death penalty would be back, for lots of things.

abacucat · 04/01/2019 12:47

Your country sounds scary.

OP posts:
Gth1234 · 04/01/2019 12:48

Mine?
You would enjoy life in my country.

shpoot · 04/01/2019 12:48

Can I be your deputy? Sounds good to me

Magmatic80 · 04/01/2019 12:50
