If you ruled the country

If you were suddenly made a benign dictator of your country, what rules would you bring in?

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 05/01/2019 21:29

BOOP Yaaay !

MiniMum97 · 06/01/2019 00:38

Oh yes and I'd ban flame retardant chemicals. And bring in stricter laws about the use of toxic chemicals in all products.

MiniMum97 · 06/01/2019 00:38

And disposable plastic.

We should start a Mumsnet political party! We'd soon have the country to rights! I'm reading a lot of posts and thinking, "Why didn't I think of that?"

SoleBizzz · 06/01/2019 01:35

Carers Allowance £600 a week, tax free.

hmmwhatatodo · 06/01/2019 02:06

Total soundproofing in all homes so no more noisy neighbours.

Fireworks with sound to be banned.

Mass social housing to be built.

House prices lowered and much more help for those on lower incomes.

Wages to increase for anyone earning less than £35000 a year full time.

GP appointments within 1 day with lots of evening and weekends available.

Free sanitary products for all females.
Some sort of life skills/confidence boosting/stress reducing programs available to all on a sliding scale.
Umm, noone has to work more than 30 hours a week unless they want to!

hmmwhatatodo · 06/01/2019 02:11

Oh and it would be illegal to be an ‘influencer’ and no tv programmes would have ‘celebrities’ in. Like ‘celebrity come dine with me’ it would just be normal people.

TheRealJoseph · 06/01/2019 09:09

Building companies have to pay for the cleaning of brown field sites, before building proper sized houses & a min. of 95 % of those homes will be social housing.

I’d make voting mandatory. with a "none of the above option"

ppeatfruit · 06/01/2019 09:59

Francis NO drinking\drug taking and driving.

A car is a dangerous weapon driven by anyone.

Driving tests should be made much more comprehensive and the above emphasised repetitively with statistics\multi media showing reasons why.

Oh also I agree with the PP who would ban palm oil in food manufacturing.

BitOutOfPractice · 06/01/2019 11:06

ppeatfruit i can't decide whether to call our country FruityBit or BitFruity. Both have a lovely Carry On feel to them don't you think?

What do you mean I've been thinking about this too much??

ppeatfruit · 06/01/2019 12:31

This is a bit prescriptive but how about PracticEatingFruit Country? It would help to make the country healthier Grin

DontCallMeCharlotte · 06/01/2019 13:15

Winebottle

I see your point but I would approach it from a different angle. If someone sits in a reserved seat that's not theirs, they would be thrown off the train. While it's moving. I think that would probably deter them.

TheRealJoseph · 06/01/2019 19:11

Public head shaving for parents/guardians, who cba to treat their kids' nit infestive heads.

delboysskinandblister · 06/01/2019 21:24

all clothing labels to be printed
chewing gum banned
all milk to be organic
diets to be banned just give healthy balanced subsidised hot meals and proper worklife balance
everyone wears smart casual clothes to work and concentrate on the job not the dress code of the company
every company pays for the workers birthday with day annual leave
all roses will be grown scented
return of the second post
all toilets will have a 10 gallon flush
The Beano will return

ppeatfruit · 07/01/2019 10:39

Yes .... all roses will be grown scented YES YES YES

Also stop the idiot plant breeders from making all flowers look like effing peonies (I like peonies but why must roses look like them?).

Oh and stop dog and cat (and any other animal) breeders from breeding animals with illnesses, just for LOOKS. It's cruel.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 07/01/2019 11:21

I wrote a lot of stuff, full of hate. Then I thought about what would do us all some good.

Patisserie and dressmaking for young offenders.
Proper cheese labelling. That stuff isn't mozzarella.
How to change a wheel.
Fridays in schools given over to music, or an hour every day.
Men's shirts, socks and jackets (actually all men's designs) to be sized and cut for women. Half my stuff gets "borrowed".

icepop9000 · 07/01/2019 21:34

Every person needs to work for a year in either retail or hospitality to realise what twats the general public can be, especially at Christmas...😂

Ban all reality TV

Graphista · 07/01/2019 23:25

"Every person needs to work for a year in either retail or hospitality to realise what twats the general public can be, especially at Christmas" I like that one.

One I should have thought of earlier:

Standardised actual measurement sizing for women's clothes!

End this "I'm a 14 in primark but an 16 in dotty p" bullshit! So women can far more easily find clothes that fit! Also trouser lengths stated on all trousers - again short in one shop is long in another! I'm 5' 2" it's murder finding jeans! Trousers are easily altered, jeans not so much BUT I should be able to buy clothes without needing to alter them!

Just put sizes in cm/inches like mens then we know!

Atchiclees · 08/01/2019 02:31

If we can’t form a Governmenf between us to take over the U.K., then we are going to need a space program. We need to find a habitable planet and zoom off there with our new collective rules for common sense, fairness and equality. We could have some countries where cover versions of songs were allowed and some not Grin

Racecardriver · 08/01/2019 02:41

Britain is on the road to bankruptcy. I would order parliament to balance its books ASAP. I would also plant a whole bunch of trees (I would pay obviously, the country can’t afford that).

haggersb · 08/01/2019 03:26

Drunk and injured yourself? Banned from a&e

Graphista · 08/01/2019 05:56

Credit to another thread

System of (small) electric shocks administered to people who sit in seats reserved for pregnant/sick/disabled people when there's not enough seating.

AGHHHH · 08/01/2019 06:45

I'd outlaw sweet chilli

Antiopa12 · 08/01/2019 06:55

Pay family Carers the living wage and provide a decent pension for them. Why does the state pay private care companies £22 an hour (for clients with complex medical needs) to do the same job? It is unsustainable with an ageing population. The role of family Carers must be radically addressed in Government policy for Social Care
