Am I the only person who's never seen The Greatest Showman?

Am wondering if I am? Ive just never got around to watching it, but other people look at me like Ive got seven heads when I tell them because they are totally obsessed with it, went to see it about 20 times in the cinema and go to singalongs etc. I feel like I'm missing out on something. I am familiar with the songs though because they seem to be everywhere.

Ive never seen a Frozen either....

'The person questioning Hugh Jackmans singing skills hasn’t seen Les Mis either then I take it.'

I have and i thought he was pretty rubbish. Not as bad as Russell Crowe mind you

I plan to watch The Greatest Showman when it's out on DVD to see just how cringey and awful it isGrin

I've never seen it. Sky gave it free over Christmas so I recorded it. I noticed someone had deleted it. DH said he had because (in voice of disgust) it was a musical Grin

bellinisurge · 04/01/2019 16:44

Never seen it either.

Charley50 · 04/01/2019 18:21

Is Les Mis, the TV one, good? I don't know the story at all. Not sure whether to commit.?

Lottapianos · 04/01/2019 19:35

Charley, I thought the first episode was impressive

Pimmsypimms · 04/01/2019 19:37

Nope, not seen it either and have no desire to.

Harryo · 04/01/2019 19:38

I tried to watch it, but only lasted about ten minutes. Same with the Mama Mia movie.

Everyone else I know (apart from DH) absolutely love them.

jessstan2 · 04/01/2019 19:40

I've never seen it, it's about Barnum isn't it? It doesn't really interest me.
He was an interesting character but he bought Jumbo (biggest elephant in the world) from London Zoo and the elephant was grossly ill treated. Goodness only knows why London Zoo sold him, he was such a big attraction - and to a circus of all things. I suppose they needed the money but they'd have had to replace him with another elephant.

Well thank goodness there are no more circus elephants in this country.

orangeicecream · 04/01/2019 19:56

Not seen either of those.... Or Lala land or mama Mia 1 or 2

KOKOagainandagain · 04/01/2019 20:05

Somehow I didn't realise this was a musical.

We watched it because of Wolverine.

PierreBezukov · 04/01/2019 20:35

Haven't seen it. But to be honest, musicals these days are crap. Mamma Mia was toe-curlingly awful, as was La La Land. I didn't like Moulin Rouge either. The problem is that celebrity actors are hired to be in them, but while they can act, they can't sing or dance.

Once upon a time hugely talented artists from the West End were used in musicals - people who may not have been A-lost celebrities, but who were all-rounders and good at acting, singing and dancing. I watched the 1980s version of Annie recently - it was a proper musical with good songs, big choreographed numbers and flawless performances by insanely talented people. To name just two, the women who played Miss Hannigan and Grace.

You just don't get the same kind of effort put into musicals now - and getting established actors to perform in them results in weak, cringeworthy performances - Pierce Brosnan springs to mind as one of the most embarrassing.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 05/01/2019 12:54

La la land was terrible tripe wasn’t it? I think the nicest thing I can say about it was that it was completely forgettable.

Charley50 · 05/01/2019 12:59

La La Land was shit. And I fancy Ryan Gosling.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 05/01/2019 16:05

La La Land was awful

LA it was Hollywood patting itself on the back nonsense. LA is so culturally diverse they could have made the film far more interesting

Bluestitch · 05/01/2019 18:29

He was an interesting character but he bought Jumbo (biggest elephant in the world) from London Zoo and the elephant was grossly ill treated.

He did the same with humans too, such as Joyce Neith, an elderly black woman and slave who he 'leased' and put out to work 12 hour days as a '161 year old' wonder, despite her being in appalling ill health. He also decided, once he'd worked her to death, to have her publicly autopsied to a paying crowd to make more money off her.
