Am I the only person who's never seen The Greatest Showman?

Am wondering if I am? Ive just never got around to watching it, but other people look at me like Ive got seven heads when I tell them because they are totally obsessed with it, went to see it about 20 times in the cinema and go to singalongs etc. I feel like I'm missing out on something. I am familiar with the songs though because they seem to be everywhere.

Ive never seen a Frozen either....

Agree that Mama Mia was dire & quickly gave up on that. I've never been tempted by a lot of ' must see' movies, including Dirty Dancing...... shock horror!!!!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 04/01/2019 11:54

Must admit I often feel like a leper when I admit to really disliking musicals. I really enjoy films including those which include song and dance (e.g enjoyed Star is Born this year and like Dirty Dancing). Why is this I wonder? Am I a Hater Of Joy?Shock

ManicUnicorn · 04/01/2019 12:24

So it's a marmite film then? I must admit I do generally like crap and cheesy. I love Les Mis, but then I liked the music way before anyway.

I have to take exception to people saying Hugh Jackman can't sing. He was a musical theatre actor before he was a movie star.

what an overrated drivel of a film. The songs were ok. The dubbing when they were singing was out of sync. The storyline was dull. The ' freaks' were never properly identified, no back story and just appeared as a random phalanx during every scene they were in. Hugh's character was repulsive. No depth of character development. Time moved fast with very little explanation yet the children never aged. Overall it was for the braindead.... my mil loved it.

Queenofpies · 04/01/2019 12:45

My friend raved on about it. She went to see it twice. I don’t watch much TV but when I saw it was on over Christmas I thought I’d give it a go. It was ok, some good songs but not worth watching twice IMHO.
I could never understand the hype over Les Miserableseither. It’s like marmite you either love it or hate it. I absolutely hated it.

SoftBlocks · 04/01/2019 12:51

I haven’t seen Greatest Showman either but I have seen Frozen several times.

WildFlower2019 · 04/01/2019 13:00

I saw about 5 minutes of it and felt pretty meh about it. I might try it again.

Frozen I found average at best. Much better films out there! Moana for starters!!!!

DobbinsVeil · 04/01/2019 13:03

I've seen it as it's Ds2's favourite. I thought it was ok.

I've never watched Mama Mia!, Moulin Rouge or the Sound of Music.

PavlovianLunge · 04/01/2019 13:07

I enjoyed GS more than I was expecting to, and would happily watch it again. That said, my expectations were low; if I’d bought into the hype and hoop-la I might have felt differently.

mejon · 04/01/2019 13:37

No - and no intention of doing so. I'm not a fan of musicals.
Have seen Frozen (2 DDs of the 'right age' at the time).
Haven't seen Mama Mia either despite loving ABBA!

I've never seen Dirty Dancing or Ghost either Grin

surferjet · 04/01/2019 13:40

Haven’t seen it either.
Or frozen, or Mama Mia.
Haven’t read 50 shades of grey either.

I’m coping ok.

surferjet · 04/01/2019 13:41

I never seem to like anything I’m supposed to like. Grin

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 04/01/2019 14:02

We watched it over Christmas - my 7 year old liked it and sings the songs, I thought it was awful. The storyline was boring and glossed over a lot of the horrible behind the scenes issues black people and ‘freaks’ did and still do face, and the songs for me were utterly forgettable. I really don’t get the hype at all.

SilverySurfer · 04/01/2019 15:02

I've not seen it, have no intention of seeing it. Ditto both Mamma Mia, Frozen or The Glums (Les Mis) or Moulin Rouge and thought Titanic was a load of rubbish.

Bluestitch · 04/01/2019 15:07

I've not seen it, I really like a couple of the songs but I've read the real story of PT Barnum and he was an absolute piece of shit so not too keen on seeing him sanitised for Hollywood.

PavlovianLunge · 04/01/2019 15:10

Haven't seen Mama Mia either despite loving ABBA!

That’s the perfect reason to not see it. Grin

MamaLovesMango · 04/01/2019 15:19

TGS is a baaaaad film. It’s poor acting, shit writing and terrible producing. And yy to the PP that says that PT Barnum was a shit. He was a fucking awful piece of work and the film doesn’t reflect that at all, just ludicrously glorified him.
Just the thought of Mamma Mia makes me want to vom.
We do love Disney in our house though, inc. Frozen. Saw Mary Poppins Returns recently and really loved it. The only live action remake sort of that I’ve enjoyed so far.
I did enjoy the ‘new’ Anne Hathaway Les Mis. I liked the darkness and horror to it and her performance especially was wonderful. I despise a glossy Fantine. Yet to see the BBC1 rework sans singing.

Karmagoat · 04/01/2019 15:20

My dd made me sit through The Greatest Showman, she loved it, me not so much not really my thing.
Have seen Frozen but don't really understand what all the fuss is about tbh. It was ok but there are much better Disney films imo (Beauty and the Beast is my favourite)
Have seen Mamma Mia got dragged to the cinema by my friend for that one. Bloody awful.
And don't get me started on 50 shades of shite. Got caught up with the hype when the books came out, read half way through the first one and threw it.
I can usually guarantee I will dislike or be meh about 90% of stuff that everyone else seems to rave about, and I do try to give it a chance!

Mummynextdoor · 04/01/2019 15:30

I haven't - keeping meaning to

Charley50 · 04/01/2019 15:33

I've never seen it. I've seen a poster for it on the underground, but apart from that it's not even on my radar.

Easylay · 04/01/2019 15:47

I had to leave after ten minutes as it terrified my eight year old

bigbluebus · 04/01/2019 16:12

Haven't seen Greatest Showman although that will change soon as it is due to be shown at a local community event which we will go to in order to support the event. Otherwise wouldn't be bothering.

I haven't seen Frozen or Mamma Mia 2 either and only saw Love Actually for the 1st time just before Christmas - much to the astonishment of friend I watched it with who had seen it at least 5 times.

Loopytiles · 04/01/2019 16:15

Like musicals, but disliked the bits of Greatest Showman have seen, although like the hit tunes.

Film Les Mis was shit!

Mary Poppins Returns was OK but music not up to much.

Loopytiles · 04/01/2019 16:15

Like Frozen!

icannotremember · 04/01/2019 16:17

Haven't seen it, have no wish to see it.
