Am I the only person who's never seen The Greatest Showman?

Am wondering if I am? Ive just never got around to watching it, but other people look at me like Ive got seven heads when I tell them because they are totally obsessed with it, went to see it about 20 times in the cinema and go to singalongs etc. I feel like I'm missing out on something. I am familiar with the songs though because they seem to be everywhere.

Ive never seen a Frozen either....

It's was twaddle.

Plus e some nice kind hero, he was a monster of a man but throw in some jazz hands and its fine.

dolliebauble · 04/01/2019 08:56

I love it but it has definitely been pushed and hyped. My taste is probably questionable too though from years of being mentally numbed with my little pony, paw patrol, combiner force, ever after high and the newest brain rot minecraft videos!?

Catmint · 04/01/2019 08:58

I wanted to like it. But, no.

dolliebauble · 04/01/2019 08:58

Yep, the real Barnum was a c* but then let's not let the truth get in the way of a good story Hmm

PollyFlinderz · 04/01/2019 09:00

I haven’t seen and I’ve no plans to watch it as the few trailers I’ve seen have screamed no no no.

dolliebauble · 04/01/2019 09:00

Not sure what a c is? Bit like an A?

Notwiththeseknees · 04/01/2019 09:00

Not seen

Moulin Rouge
Frozen
Mama Mia 2 (MM1 was painful enough)
Greatest Showman

I'll just have to let it bloody go Grin

fblake · 04/01/2019 09:02

I haven't seen Greatest Showman or Frozen either Smile

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 04/01/2019 09:06

I enjoyed the greatest showman. Frozen is ok, just another Disney kids film really.
The person questioning Hugh Jackmans singing skills hasn’t seen Les Mis either then I take it.

Exhsuatedmuch · 04/01/2019 09:07

Nope haven't seen it despite people trying to force me to watch it declaring it to be the best film I will ever watch... I'm happy to take my chances in not watching it. Frozen sadly seen many times with my kids and its nothing special, mamma Mia..... Good god the first was dire and I was surrounded by prats singing in the cinema ( mother in law included) the second one I begged not to have to go.

Gotstuckwiththisname · 04/01/2019 09:08

I didn't rate The Greatest Showman, or Moulin Rouge. Not seen Les Mis.

Blobby10 · 04/01/2019 09:13

Watched The Greatest Showman on DVD before Christmas and thought it wasn't great. Left me feeling a bit like I did after watching La-La Land - neither up nor down, I didn't really enjoy either film and wont bother watching again.

Mamma Mia HWGA on the other hand has been watched on DVD twice already (also saw it in the cinema) and I STILL cry at the christening scenes!

SlowlyShrinking · 04/01/2019 09:18

I haven’t seen it and didn’t really know what it was until reading this thread. I don’t know anyone who’s seen it either afaik

dolliebauble · 04/01/2019 09:19

There was the bit when he returned from making his fortune and looked his age rather than what the character was supposed to be I assume 20s? But I let it go. Let's face it if realism was the basis for all films we'd be even more miserable than we already are.

TowerRingInferno · 04/01/2019 09:20

Never seen it and have no interest in doing so.

Similarly Mamma Mia, Frozen, Titanic.

TSSDNCOP · 04/01/2019 09:20

My friends 9 yo reviewed it as “awful TSS, just so much singing”. So that damning review put it in the “maybe one day if there’s nothing else on” category.

Frozen is made worse if, like us, you were expecting a ice age/Pixar film based on the trailers with the snowman and his carrot. We felt robbed.

Mamma Mia is, along with SATC2, possibly the worst 20 minutes of film I’ve ever sat through.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 04/01/2019 09:22

Finally, though it was just me! So sick of when people ask if I've seen it I confirm no they are all like "OMG you just HAVE to watch it!".every time it makes me want to watch it even less.

A story which apparently glosses over what the real Showman was like (not v nice),
Over produced and over shmaltzy songs which have all been done before but better,
Not helped by the fact that musicals in general make me cringe!

Actually (and aware I'm going to get flamed for this) some (not all) of TGS evangelists I know only seem to watch crap films made for the masses so next time one asks I might just suggest once they've watched Goodfellas I'll watch TGS then we can have a chat Smile

Oblomov18 · 04/01/2019 09:23

Nope. No interest.

SoyDora · 04/01/2019 09:25

Well there are a lot of people in the country so I doubt it very much.
DH and the DC have seen it. I haven’t.

DoingMyBest2010 · 04/01/2019 09:26

Saw it and was disappointed. The music is good though, the film not so.

TheWiseWomansFear · 04/01/2019 09:27

Even my DP, who doesn't like musicals, enjoyed it when I made him watch it.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 04/01/2019 09:30

I haven't seen it.Frozen is shit

Vitalogy · 04/01/2019 09:34

I've not seen it either but watched these videos a few times:

Mama Mia seemed to murder ABBA music from the clips at least of the "singing". Not seen Frozen either.

MrsEricBana · 04/01/2019 09:44

Have seen it but didn't like it. Thought it was just me.

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 04/01/2019 10:05

Haven't seen The Greatest Showman, or Frozen, or Mamma Mia or 50 Shades or anything that everyone else raves over.
