How many people know identical triplets?

A comment on another thread started me thinking (this is not a TAAT though!)

How common are identical triplets? I've looked at stats online but I'm more interested in how it translates to real life.

I'm a teacher and in all my years teaching I've taught one set of identical triplets. They were super identical - same voice, handwriting, drawing style, personality. It was uncanny (in a nice way)

I have taught another set of non identical triplets and my sister has too (different school). I know a lady who has triplets grandsons (two identical, one not).

I know one set of identical twins, have taught in two other schools with two other pairs.

How many identical triplets do you know?

OP posts:

Never encountered any triplets and have been teaching for a long time.

I know quite a few sets of twins.

OhioOhioOhio · 01/01/2019 13:18

Yep. Teacher here too. Never met any triplets.

Mabelface · 01/01/2019 13:21

I have triplets. 2 identical boys and a girl.

There is a set of identical triplets ayt my daughter's school..there is also an older sister too but she looks EXACTLY the same as the triplets she's about 3 years older .
It's very strange

BloomsButtons · 01/01/2019 13:21

I know two sets of triplets. One all boys but non-identical. The other set are two identical girls and a boy (obviously not identical Grin).

eggofmantumbi · 01/01/2019 13:22

Another teacher who doesn't know any triplets!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 01/01/2019 13:23

It’s very unusual for an egg to split into three. Triplets are usually identical twins and another.

Has anyone seen the film “three identical strangers”. Fascinating.

isseywithcats · 01/01/2019 13:25

my sister in law is a triplet her and her sister are identical girls and one brother when i was a teen in our town there were two identical girl twins who were going out with two identical twin boys now thats confusing

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/01/2019 13:28

I've known 2 sets of Triplets. Not sure if they were identical though.

Kim82 · 01/01/2019 13:29

My ex had cousins who were identical triplets. Sadly one only lived for a few days but the surviving two were always called “the triplets” - confusing if you didn’t know their history!

LancashireTea · 01/01/2019 13:30

Teacher here: have taught one set of identical triplets who we struggle to tell apart, bar a few clues. But it is tough.

And numerous twins, both identical and not.

ragged · 01/01/2019 13:30

I went to school with ID-triplet-boys (they have a wikipdia entry).

There is a local set; I only know one of the 3 women to speak to, but sometimes see her with one of her clones, and the other one lives further away I'm told.

I also know cases of older siblings who look exactly like younger (twin) sibling(s).

MsAwesomeDragon · 01/01/2019 13:31

I've only ever met triplets who are two identical and one not. Not that I've met a lot of triplets, maybe 2 sets in 15 years of teaching.

I know a LOT of identical twins though, I seem to teach loads of them.

ThomasRichard · 01/01/2019 13:32

I don’t know any identical triplets but I went to school with triplet boys: 2 who were identical and 1 completely different.

Lomondstripe · 01/01/2019 13:34

No triplets but my school of under 90 pupils had 5 sets of twins including 2 sets in our year of approx 20. When we moved up to high school of under 200, we had 3 sets in a year of under 50 and a more than 10 sets in total. Something in the water?!

BringOnTheScience · 01/01/2019 13:34

I've taught identical twin girls and non-identical twin boys, plus triplet girls of an identical pair plus one.

DramaAlpaca · 01/01/2019 13:35

I've known three sets, none of them identical.

megletthesecond · 01/01/2019 13:36

I knew triplets when I was growing up.
There's a family of quads in our town. Three boys and a girl IIRC.

wonkylegs · 01/01/2019 13:39

I know lots of identical twins but the only triplets I actually know are 2 boys and a girl

WWYDhelpplease · 01/01/2019 13:40

Our school has identical triplet girls.

shecamefromgreece · 01/01/2019 13:41

I don't think I've ever met identical triplets.
At dds school there are two sets of triplets both GGB.
Also identical twin girls with a sister a year older who looks so similar they look like triplets.

mnahmnah · 01/01/2019 13:41

I’m a teacher. I’ve taught two lots of triplets. Currently teaching some identical girl triplets. The other set were two identical girls and a boy.

whenwillthetwitchstrike · 01/01/2019 13:44

I know five sets of triplets, one set identical (although identifiable now they're in their 30s & have scars, different hair styles, different lifestyles leading to different weights/body shapes), one set of three girls who weren't identical but very very similar as toddlers and had same hair style, clothes etc and then with the other three sets, all three children were quite distinct.
DD's school is two form entry and in one year there are four sets of ID twins and two of non-ID twins.

PivotPivotPIVOTTT · 01/01/2019 13:44

I know of a few twins but non identical. There were triplets a couple of years younger than me at school but non indentical one had a completely different hair colour from his brothers. There was a woman near me who had quads a couple of years ago but sadly one died. Multiple births fascinate me. My daughter's best friends are non ID twins but I can only tell them apart from their clothing.

huggybear · 01/01/2019 13:47

I know a set of identical triplets!
