How many people know identical triplets?

A comment on another thread started me thinking (this is not a TAAT though!)

How common are identical triplets? I've looked at stats online but I'm more interested in how it translates to real life.

I'm a teacher and in all my years teaching I've taught one set of identical triplets. They were super identical - same voice, handwriting, drawing style, personality. It was uncanny (in a nice way)

I have taught another set of non identical triplets and my sister has too (different school). I know a lady who has triplets grandsons (two identical, one not).

I know one set of identical twins, have taught in two other schools with two other pairs.

How many identical triplets do you know?

I have never met any triplets , but there was a set of quads in my town I can't remember if it they were conceived naturally or not.

maskingtape · 01/01/2019 16:59

I'm a teacher. There were 2 lots of triplets in my last school. One lot were completely identical (3 girls). One lot were not identical (2 girls and 1 boy) but you could tell they were siblings.

x2boys · 01/01/2019 17:00

I used to be good friends as a teenager with indenticle twins their older sister was only 13 months.older than them and they all looked very alike

Nope. But know non identical quads (3 girls one boy) and non identical triplets (all boys)

Laniakea · 01/01/2019 17:07

I have a friend with quads, made up of two sets of identical twins (one set of boys, one set of girls). they were an IVF pregnancy, my friend only transferred two embryos but both split into twins.

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 01/01/2019 17:18

I do, identical triplets boys. I also know identical quads (the only ones in the country I believe, but that may have changed now if more have been born).

chickenchip · 01/01/2019 17:29

I know lots of triplets but only one ID set. I've just had triplets myself though so mix in those circles now Grin 3 x boys - two ID and one Singleton

GunpowderGelatine · 01/01/2019 17:49

@LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus I believe we may know the same quads. Surname begins with T and they live in C?

BonBonVoyage · 01/01/2019 17:52

So interesting! I hadn't even considered quads!!
I just remembered there were identical triplet girls in my sister's year who all had two syllable names beginning with the same letter - think Susie, Sammy, and Sadie.
One had one freckle in a certain place in her face, one had two freckles, the other had no freckle

Teacher here. Have taught one set 9f non-identical triplets and one set of identical ones. I pride myself on still being able to tell them apart now, three years later, and managed it originally by sitting them in alphabetical order, without them realising, until I had it sorted as to who was who!!

MattMagnolia · 01/01/2019 17:52

I’ve seen identical triplets four or five times and there was one set at our school. All but one set were boys.
Also know identical twin men and one has triplets even though it’s supposed to be the mother who determines multiple births.

IRememberSoIDo · 01/01/2019 17:56

I've met two sets in my life, one set were identical girls and another non identical girl. The other set are in my daughters' school and are identical boys, they are absolutely indistinguishable from each other, their parents had such a hard time telling them apart they have their hair cut slightly differently.

RiddleyW · 01/01/2019 17:56

I work with somebody who has non ID triplet girls, never come across identical.

smokealarm · 01/01/2019 18:38

@itssquidstella I didn't go to university in the UK so not sure if they're the same set Smile

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/01/2019 19:00

I went to school in the early 1970's (so pre IVF days) with an identical set of triplet boys. Their mum dressed them identically and they had their initial embroidered on their jumpers.

dontticklethetoad · 01/01/2019 19:04

I know identical triplet boys. Dated one in my teens, now in 30's.
They were lovely Smile

DaisyDando · 01/01/2019 19:08

I’ve never taught triplets, in 20 years of teaching, but I do know some (non identical.) I taught quads, many years ago. They looked very similar but weren’t identical. (Especially as three were girls and one was a boy.) I find multiple births fascinating.

RedForShort · 01/01/2019 19:13

I know one identical triplet, I used to work for him. Don't know the other two though. He was about 50.

Other that I know no other triplets, bar training a woman years ago who was pregnant with triplets. All i know they were born quite close to term, and she returned to work after maternity leave. That was 14 years ago. Never met the triplets though.

Teacherlikemisstrunchball · 01/01/2019 19:24

I taught identical triplets, they were in kindergarten. Gorgeous girls and really independent, they could all put on their own coats/shoes etc without help at 2 1/2 because as their mum said ‘they had to just get on with it!’ Grin they were so neat and tidy! I’ve taught loads of sets of twins over the years, both identical and not.

Tiredmum100 · 01/01/2019 20:33

I went to school with a set of female identical triplets. They're the only ones I've ever come across.

sycamore54321 · 01/01/2019 21:00

A relative who works in obstetrics was part of a team who delivered identical girl triplets about 25 years ago. They were something of local celebrities in the small country where they lived and appeared in various advertising campaigns and are now models/PR promotional staff based on their identical status. They do look indistinguishable but they also play that up by same hairstyles etc as it’s part of their brand.

On quads, I was on a miscarriage support forum with a woman who had multiple miscarriage and then naturally conceived and carried healthy quads. Although I’d “known” her online for quite some time, I almost suspected the story to turn out to be trolls but there she was on the news and local papers when they were born.

An acquaintance had her first baby early in January. Then conceived again rather quickly, with (non-identical) triplets who were born prematurely and so delivered in the same calendar year. She would yell the story about how “last Christmas she had no babies, this Christmas she had four”

Parents of multiples have my utmost respect, especially in the early years.

Newerversion · 01/01/2019 21:06

I know five sets of triplets, none are identical though. Two all girl sets with 2 identical and one not, one all boy set and two two girl and one boy sets.

AlmostGrockle · 02/01/2019 00:04

I have known one set of triplets where two were identical and the other wasn't, and a set of non - identical quads (two boys, two girls).

panoramallama · 02/01/2019 00:09

I know of a set of identical quads who lived in a village hereabouts, they were mentioned in the local paper a few times.

Don't know any triplets though.

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 02/01/2019 00:10

Healthcare professional here and never come across any triplets. At the big inner city tertiary birth centre I worked at they said they reckon they see triplets once every 3-6 months and they’d almost certainly get the majority born in the region (north west) so they’re v rare.
