Hotel Chocolat disappointment

Bought several boxes of Hotel Chocolat this Christmas as gifts. Having sampled a few (had a box myself also), I am disappointed in them...not the quality I was expecting and decidedly average but very expensive.

Are there any good brands of chocolates out there? Ones that really are delicious?

I was disappointed too. Way too sugary and not enough proper cacao content/ flavour

I like sweet stuff but for that price I expected better

I love Aldi Moser Roth...there are a lot of different boxes out at this time of year too.

I love good old green and blacks but only the dark chocolate variety...

What’s wrong with you?!!! I love it!!! We got given the giant box (think £200+) from a client at work, it makes going into work over December worth it

I bought my husband a Hotel Chocolat egg last Easter thinking he'd be delighted. It was inedible.

TooMinty, sorry to deliver the disappointing news! They are not bad chocs and certainly much better than most out there...I think I was just expecting more for the price. You will still enjoy them I am sure.

I've always liked them, but this year they seemed meh.

My Thornton Continentals actually compared favourably. And that's depressing.

I like HC as i find their chocolate far less sugary than other brands, and they make v tasty pralines. Their fruity chocs are also actually fruity, rather than just neat sugar.
Sadly i have eaten all my supply.
Am now hungry.

I was given some this year and it certainly wasn't as nice as Thorntons. Just very sweet and ordinary. I guess it depends what you pick though.

Always liked them, but have gone off them this year. Bit sickly and samey.

ClashCityRocker, yes I bought HC last year as well, and they seemed much better last year...definitely not so good this year in comparison.

Planespotting was it Neuhaus? I love them.

That’s not good news. We ordered a lot of the chocolate hampers from them to give to clients as gifts. Some of the left over hampers I gave to friends who have hosted us over the last week.

They weren’t big, but I assumed they’d be decent quality.

Bought some and thought they tasted like Thornton's. So difficult to find any nice chocolate now
