As it says in the title.

2018 hasn’t been kind to me, and the drink has been relied upon far too much.

I’m fed up of moping, and want to kick start a better year with my first ever complete dry January tomorrow.

Who’s in?

I'm with you, I stopped on the 27th Dec, will have some tonight, but then a full free Jan, (and hopefully a bit longer).

CreepyPasta · 31/12/2018 09:32

I’m in. Stopped on the 28th, planning a minimum of 100 days AF. My drinking has spiralled out of control this year.

HolyMountain · 31/12/2018 09:33

I’m in, I need to reset my booze button so a month off will be beneficial.

I’m going to get the Dry January app and give it a go.

I’m in too. I’ve never done it before but was reading an article in the paper that it often also resets your relationship with alcohol so that you tend to drink less when you do restart drinking. Also want to kickstart a better year. Good luck all

SunnySomer · 31/12/2018 09:38

I am totally in. Not sure what has happened to me over the last 3 years, but somehow have gained 2 stones and alcohol has very much contributed. This would be an excellent kickstart to a healthier relationship with it.
Thank you for starting the thread!

Exisonfire · 31/12/2018 09:52

Ah, glad of your responses. Grin

My drinking has totally spiralled out of control too, I’ve always been far too fond of it but managed to have good 3 day breaks / moderate in the past etc.

then I got divorced

Ahem!!

It seems my relationship with booze has been “anything goes” for far too long now.

Life is not all that bad and so now more flipping excuses. I’ve two great DC that are 9 and 5 and a new job to start in January, so I’ve got every reason to try.

danny boy that’s interesting, I certainly hope it changes my habits in the long run.

creepy pasta I’m going for all of Jan and then may set a target of total other dry days across the year.....Hmm

I’m also downloading the app today.

Got a family do this afternoon at a pub then takeaway at home this evening, so it’ll be my last blow out....

Good luck to all, and let’s keep talking!

Joining. Me & DH have said after tonight we are doing dry January.....he then said “well, maybe if we just stick to one night a week” so seems he is already wavering!
It is going to be hard but my bank balance, liver and waistline will all thank me.

Totorosfluffytummy · 31/12/2018 10:10

This is just what I need! Smile
Terrible year for me.
Just made a list of benefits of not drinking, including -
Lose weight
More energy
Save money
Less tummy aches!
General health/aging
Less headaches
Improve anxiety & depression
Better skin & brighter eyes

Started being sensible on the 19th. Had just 5 drinks Christmas Day which was very good for me. 1 drink on Saturday night (29th) and already feeling calmer and less bloated.

Will be indulging in a few cocktails tonight then dry Jan.
I will check out the app now...

CallingDannyBoy · 31/12/2018 10:14

It was this article - sorry don’t know how to do a share token but if anyone does.... Other benefits include saving money, improved sleep and losing weight. All sounds good.

I do Dry January every year so from tomorrow I'm in. I mainly love the amazing sleep I get from not drinking.

Totorosfluffytummy · 31/12/2018 10:24

I've downloaded 2 apps to try. Dry January & Dry Days.

I’ve drank like a b%$tard for a lot of 2018, going to do my first complete dry January as of tomorrow. Join me?
Crunchymum · 31/12/2018 10:30

I've had periods of being dry (but also periods of being very "wet" as well) in 2018.

It's not been a good year.

I've had a few weeks off of my medication but I'll be taking it again tomorrow and I have to restrict alcohol with it. So it's just easier to not drink at all.

Look forward to getting back to teetotality for a bit.

MrsCar · 31/12/2018 10:35

I really need to do this too.
I've drank so much wine and baileys over December and the past few months, that I'm beginning to worry.
The most worrying thing of all is my tolerance; I used to be very merry after half a bottle of wine, now I can polish off a bottle and I don't feel much of an effect from it, just sluggish the next morning.

I'm aiming for the entire month of January Brew

Good luck all

Travisandthemonkey · 31/12/2018 13:36

God I need to do this. It’s become a crutch for me
The last 2 years have been hell. I can’t face another year like it, so I have to try and change it myself, rather than just hoping it get better.
I’m genuinely scared that I won’t be able to do it though. I drink everyday and I can easily drink a bottle of wine and feel nothing. Scary

ThePurpleOneIsOverrated · 31/12/2018 14:33

Dp and I have been saying for the past couple of years that we're going to do this, but have so far failed Sad

This Christmas has been particularly boozy and I'm writing this with a hangover 😲

I'm determined to do it this January and have even at times considered becoming a teetotaler. Thing is, as much as I hate the hangovers, the accelerated aging, the health fears, I really do enjoy it. The thought of not drinking at all doesn't fill me with horror, but it makes me feel kind of sad.

The past couple of years we'd cut down by at least a third I'd say and tend to only drink Friday- Sunday, but it's still too much.

I genuinely get bored when going to the pub and not drinking. A coke or fizzy water does nothing for me and I desperately want a glass of wine. I hate that feeling. It is definitely a dependency, but I think we've made a good start (excluding Christmas and holidays Confused )

Wishing everyone lots of luck!

DramaAlpaca · 31/12/2018 14:37

Marking my place.

I'm rubbish at sticking to it, usually crumble in the middle of the month & fall face first into a glass of something cold after a stressful day at work, but I'll have a go.

Madmarchpear · 31/12/2018 14:48

I'm drink between 30-70 units a week. It is a crutch for anxiety, boredom, crap relationship with a husband I have little in common with. I surprised myself last year by doing dry Jan fairly easily but slipped back into old habits due to bereavement and stress. I'm starting to think I'm one of those people who just needs to give up attempts to moderate and knock it on the head altogether.

mommybear1 · 31/12/2018 15:04

I'm in! Did it last year and whilst I was disappointed that I didn't feel more healthy afterwards and springing around it definitely helped me regulate my alcohol intake.

ApolloandDaphne · 31/12/2018 15:12

I am in but will start on the 4th. DH and i are currently on holiday in Tenerife. I would be kidding myself if I said i was starting tomorrow!

I have downloaded the Dry Day's app. I will try to be honest on it over the next few days. That may scare me!

MrsCar · 01/01/2019 16:11

Off to a very bad start... had New Year's lunch at mil's and she poured me a glass of wine.
I know I didn't have to drink it, but come on Blush

Dry January starts tomorrow

No excuses 💪

HolyMountain · 01/01/2019 16:54

My danger hours are 5-7 pm; get in from work , start cooking tea and open a bottle.

I did DJ two years ago and gave up for 3 months then fell back during Easter , I’d like to do the same again.

I’ve filled myself up on fizzy water and eaten some almonds.

Good luck everyone, let’s huddle in!

JamieOliversChickenNugget · 01/01/2019 17:07

Im now drinking in the day. One bottle wine or half bottle baileys, most days. Am doing DJ, but already craving Sad
