What are your plans for NYE?

We don't do anything big, usually it's a Chinese, movie and a sleepover/cinema style set up in the living room, usually by 12 we've either all drifted to sleep or are really settled and hear the fireworks to tell us it's new year. This year we're going to visit family for lunch so instead of a Chinese when we're home we'll have a bit of a buffet tea and then do the usual. We've basically done the same thing every evening from the 22nd onwards and it'll continue for a few days after new year. It's been a tough old year so We're definitely enjoying the rest of the time x

Ooh this sounds perfect! How old are your DC? Mine is still a baby so probably going to take her on a “night walk” (6pm Grin) to look at the Christmas lights which she loves, then takeaway and catching up on Christmas telly when she’s in bed. Pretty excited about it to be honest!! Xmas Grin

mumof2sarah · 30/12/2018 13:25

@Daisywho mine are 6&15 - 15 year old looks forward to NYE every year, she loves the relaxation of it x

Likely to be a quiet one for us - I've got the lurgy and the family which had suggested hosting has pulled out as they're also suffering. Fine with me, I'm usually over festivities by NYE anyway, but think DH will be disappointed. Have another invitation to go to London, but it's too much of a trek for me at the moment, and we had already declined anyway.

Spending NYD at my parents'.

I’ve got my 20 week scan at lunchtime so was wary to make any actual plans in case there’s any bad news, but I might steal your night in!

If we start looking now, we might have actually picked a film by 6pm tomorrow 🤣

mumof2sarah · 30/12/2018 13:52

@carrie74 sorry you're not feeling too good. The rest sounds like a perfect way to spend NYE then xx

Was supposed to be having a party. Have all the booze and food here but illness has taken hold and I've had to cancel.
Didn't want to be spending New Year's Eve alone with kids but I think we will all be asleep by 9pm now.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 30/12/2018 13:57

Eating, drinking, snogging and shagging probably! Hopefully no vomming this year.

cojmum · 30/12/2018 13:58

I'm working tomorrow, but then will do pretty much the same as you.

Kids are 14,12 and 8 and it's rare they make it to midnight

Crunchymum · 30/12/2018 14:06

Mezze for us, nice wine and a bit of music. Kids won't make it to midnight but they'll get pizza, popcorn and a movie. We'll let them nod off and then stash them in bed so we can have a bit of grown up time.

catenthusiast · 30/12/2018 14:09

I'll be doing a bit of sale shopping in the afternoon followed by a trip to M&S to pick up some of their buffet food (if I time it right they will have started to reduce it!). Once DH is home from work we will snack on the party food, maybe have a couple of drinks and play some of the board games we got for Christmas. We like a chilled one (and are both recovering from the lurgy so can't do much else!)

Might buy us some sparklers for midnight just for fun! Smile

EsmeeMerlin · 30/12/2018 14:10

I will be home with two boys-5 and 10 months. When they have gone to bed I will watch a film and wait for dh to get in when he finishes work at 9. We will see the new year together.

I would usually spend the night at my nan’s where the family spend the evening but I was just there for Christmas and it’s a lot of hassle with the baby so chose to stay home for new year.

MiddlingMum · 30/12/2018 14:18

Knitting.

QueenOfIce · 30/12/2018 14:19

I will be making something light from one of my new recipe books as we're having a takeaway with friends later and will drink some bubbly whilst playing cards against humanity it'll be a relaxed but fun night.

Crumbelina · 30/12/2018 14:20

Two children aged 3 and 1 here, so it's a good bottle of Champagne and M&S Dine in for £20 for us. And praying that they stay asleep!

HoundOfTheBasketballs · 30/12/2018 14:22

I haven't decided yet. Hoping I might get some inspiration from this thread!
DS is at his dad's and my boyfriend is out with a bunch of people I don't know, so I'm at a bit of a loose end. Might go to the cinema?

Queenofthedrivensnow · 30/12/2018 14:23

Going to the theatre with dm in the afternoon (do this every year) and then going to an open house with loads of kids for a good catch up with mum friends. Totally happy with that plan!

brizzledrizzle · 30/12/2018 14:23

We'll watch a film and have a takeaway plus wine.
I'm delighted to see that Madness are doing the BBC NYE music.

LucilleBluth · 30/12/2018 14:25

We've got a trip to the Kitty Cafe with DD and DS2 then shopping planned for the day time. DS1 has a friend over then it's Chinese, board games, wine and Frank Sinatra playing in the background....it's a tradition 😀

wombatthewarrior · 30/12/2018 14:26

Travelling into London for the fireworks!

Atetoomanymincepies · 30/12/2018 14:29

We have friends coming f over for buffet food and board games. We are in Germany and there will be fireworks for at least an hour after midnight so we will go outside and watch them.

LittleCandle · 30/12/2018 14:33

The last few years we have gone to the cinema on NYE and that is what we are doing again tomorrow. Then we'll most likely go happily to bed before the bells

maddiemookins16mum · 30/12/2018 14:34

Out tomorrow for a visit to a nice seaside town near us, walk, potter around the little streets, fish and chip late lunch, home, telly, some cheese and crackers for supper. Watch the fireworks (in bed) with a mug of tea.

JustanotherCHRISTMASuser01 · 30/12/2018 14:40

up at 530 for work so doubt we will see new years planning an Indian takeaway

Fooferella · 30/12/2018 14:40

We have friends coming round with their two DC for dinner, drinks and games. I'm cooking salsa verde salmon en croute. Their boys will stay over with our DS so the adults can stay up and play Catan or possibly cards against humanity. Friends will go home and get a NYD lie-in while DH wakes up with the kids. (he's not a drinker and thinks it's neglectful to let them get up on their own. I'd leave them to it, they're 8Confused) Hopefully we'll all meet up at the seaside for a NYD walk on the beach.
