I am !

I have bought a shiny new notebook.
I have been searching pintrest for bullet journal ideas.
This includes couch to 5k (for the 3rd time)

I really need to sort my health and fatness (not a typo) out .

So if you need a partner in crime to give you a nudge or a kick then please come and join me.

More importantly if you are one of the few miracles out there that day feeling like this last year and actually succeeded please come and tell me your tales.

All welcome.

My hair is chin length but so fine it shrivels up. I need a hairdo that makes me look closer to 30. I'm 33 but feel I look about 50.

Who else is sitting planning their new healthy version of themselves while eating pringles and drinking wine ?
fatpatsthong · 21/01/2019 16:47

Oh so, dr says my thyroid is looking a bit dodge. It's showing 'sub clinical hypothyroidism'

Need to go back for more bloods in a few months but part of me is relieved as there are a few odd things happening and this may be a reason.

So I'm going to stick on a lowish cal approach (1200) and do lots of exercise to concentrate on health but not go extreme until I have more answers.

RubySlippers77 · 21/01/2019 19:51

Good news in a way fatpat? I mean if they can find an issue, hopefully they can find a way to resolve it?!

I have a couple of friends with thyroid issues; it did take a few tries to get the correct dose of medication but once they had it, things improved massively Smile

I thought jeggings were probably the best option thanks sock. Just can't find anything I look slightly better in, so will stick with this for a bit!

What sort of look do you want with your hair - have you tried going to a hairdresser with an open mind and asking for advice? Would you like it shorter, try growing it, try a different colour etc.....? Or do you like the current length but want it to look a bit more 'done'?

My hair is a bit longer than yours, no real reason, I've had it long and short over the years but this is a practical length for now. It's really thick but irritatingly wavy - not enough to be called curly or anything approaching stylish! Best thing I've ever done for styling it was to get a Brazilian keratin treatment, amazing stuff, my hair is much more manageable and looks nice with minimal effort. It used to be £££ but you can get it for under £50 now via Groupon. Just brilliant Grin

sockportal · 21/01/2019 19:58

@fatpatsthong have they checked your vitamin D, B12 and folate as your thyroid?

@RubySlippers77 I think I want my hair a bit longer. I want to to know what other 33ish year olds do with their hair. I would like Kate Middleton swishy hair but that won't happen for me - sigh!

RubySlippers77 · 21/01/2019 23:37

Maybe have a poke around on the Style & Beauty boards here sock? I'm sure someone can give you advice on how to thicken/ grow your hair. Do you have a hairdresser that you trust to advise you too?

Well, DP came back from the gym earlier moaning that his back hurt again and that he's put weight on - he's almost 23 stone now, that's the best part of a stone on in a month. To be fair he's quite despairing over it, but he doesn't see that his 'little extras' all add up, plus he's been on two big nights out in that time when he must have drunk a day's worth of calories each night! He also does very little exercise, he only does weights at the gym, and when I do make him go out at the weekends (to wear out the DC as much as anything else!) he's absolutely shattered afterwards. I suggested wearing his Fitbit again but he claims it 'doesn't work properly' because it doesn't count as many steps as mine (maybe because I DO more steps than him?! Hmm) and most of my other suggestions were shot down in flames too. We have rejoined WW though, online only, less for their recipes which all seem to involve sweetener and/ or low fat spread and more for some control over what he's eating and give him a plan to work to.

This evening I've cooked a curry and a soup, plus low fat brownies and prepped my baked oats for tomorrow. I'm exhausted!! Plus trying to avoid any nibbles as it's weigh in day tomorrow!

Shockers · 22/01/2019 08:06

RubySlippers, my husband gets annoyed by that too, but I have explained that as my legs are very short and his are much longer, it takes me a lot more steps to get anywhere!

RubySlippers77 · 22/01/2019 08:24

My DP will also sit on the sofa for hours Shockers watching me rush around cooking, tidying, sorting the DC out etc and then wonder why I've done more steps than him...!

1lb off for me today. I was hoping for a bit more but better a loss than a gain Grin

RubySlippers77 · 22/01/2019 21:00

Exhausted today. All the meal prep was obviously too much for me! I've run the dishwasher 3 times and done loads of washing up too. Couldn't find the energy to go for a run as I knew I had to sort out the post-Christmas toy mountain..... oh and the DC squabbled non stop. I am full of headache and trying not to eat the almost full tin of Celebrations that I deliberately put out of my reach after Christmas!!

WhoseLineIsItAnyway · 22/01/2019 21:21

I'm also struggling with willpower this week. Didn't do a big shop at the weekend as we were out and about so no meal prepping occurred. I ate a whole bag of pistachios yesterday on the way home from work and before DH got home. Blush
Had a totally mental day at work today, phone barely stopped so I was stuck at my desk and haven't met my 10k step goal. Considered going for a run tonight but the light dusting of snow very much put me off! Maybe tomorrow, eh?

diamantegal · 22/01/2019 22:34

I'm back on it this week. Weighed in this morning and I'm still 2.5lbs down since the start of the year, so at least that's something.

Have been very good and taken lunch to work instead of buying stuff, and as DH is away, I've been eating earlier with DS, so no snacking when I get in. Haven't been able to get to the gym, but DH is back Thursday, so I'll be able to do then. If I can be bothered...

PatPhoenix · 22/01/2019 22:41

[whisper] This morning I made it down below 86 kilos. 85.8 kilos to be exact.

That's 18 kilos lost since I started, which admittedly was 3 years ago. But although I have had patches up and down in that time, I have never regained it all. I was thinking today about what 18 packets of sugar look like, in the manner of old slimming articles in women's magazines.

Having said that, I had a looooovely big roll this evening. And I've just decided to take my son out to an all-you-can-eat buffet tomorrow. Erm...

WhoseLineIsItAnyway · 22/01/2019 22:50

Well done losers! I weighed in yesterday pre-pistachio binge at a smidge under 1kg down on the previous Monday. However my body may have been in shock still from the epic walk on Sat...

anniehm · 22/01/2019 23:12

Great thread, I'm doing well at the exercise (4 times a week) but keep binging because it's making me so hungry and I'm really stressed about work. Hopefully this will inspire me!

Howlongtillbedtime · 23/01/2019 07:05

Morning all. Well done losers! I am going to give work a go today. I still don't feel 100% but I don't feel lying on the sofa watching crap tv dock either. I have watched so much rubbish.
The Bros documentary was a thing of wonder. What a couple of numpties!!
And Marie kondo very nearly persuaded to go through my clothes and see which ones sparked joy. Maybe at the weekend I will give it a go. Had anyone else done it ?

My plan today is to not eat rubbish and get 10k steps which I haven't done for a few days because of being so ill.

Good luck everyone.

Howlong I did MK after reading about it on here, didn't do all the processed but definitely had a thorough clear out. I'm actually planning another go at it to organise our storage. It's very good for your headspace as well as your actual physical space if that makes sense?

WhoseLineIsItAnyway · 24/01/2019 09:10

How did you get on yesterday howlong?
This loser is coming down with the lurgy and had fish and chips for tea last night Blush. Managed to say no to alcohol when DH had some though, so there's a smidge of willpower in me!

bonfireheart · 24/01/2019 22:48

Anyone know of an app that is similar to MFP but not MFP? It's set me a limit of 1340 calories a day and if I have less than 100p it refuses to long it. Tells me in bright red writing that I need to have 1000 minimim.

RubySlippers77 · 24/01/2019 23:35

Fish and chips Whose!! Now I'm hungry again!

DP has come down with the dreaded man flu again and is currently in bed snoring like a warthog Angry he is starfished across the WHOLE THING as well, grrrr. Of course now he is ill he can't possibly help with childcare/ cooking/ tidying/ anything at all. It's going to be a loooong weekend.....

Still, I've baked banana flapjacks and chocolate beetroot brownies to keep us going, and have fruit soaking to make a sugar free fruit cake tomorrow - should keep us sorted for snacks this weekend. I was hoping to do a big Aldi or Lidl shop to stock up on fruit & veg amongst other things, but DP managed to lose and then promptly find his debit card - although sadly the 'finding' wasn't quick enough to stop him cancelling it, leading to some cash flow issues Sad

If you have a Fitbit bonfire then you can log calories on there? (Other fitness trackers may do it too but I only know the Fitbit!)

GimmeBread · 25/01/2019 22:11

Aaaagh! Nothings working but I'm not trying very hard. I haven't shifted a single pound in 3 weeks FFS 🤨

In my defence I do have a condition which dictates my diet but I need to do something. I'm going to look at the NHS website for a medically approved short term lose weight quickly diet.

diamantegal · 25/01/2019 22:34

Gimme can you do something like 5:2? I've lost weight this week after two very good days Monday and Tuesday, and then just tried to be sensible after that. Admittedly I've got a glass of wine in my hand right now, and had Nandos for lunch, but I'm hoping I can get away with the odd day off. Somehow dieting for two days and not binging for the rest is easier than constantly dieting.

RubySlippers77 · 26/01/2019 08:37

Gimme, is there a nurse or doctor you could talk to about your condition to see which method of dieting might be easiest/ help you most? They might have some ideas to help you?

I don't think I've done very well this week but am considering giving 5:2 a go. Part of me thinks I'll just keep busy those days and not have a chance to scoff so much - the other part thinks I'll be too hungry as I'm constantly chasing round after the DC and doing 15K+ steps! But if I can give it a go then I will.

Healthy snacks packed to take with us today - check! Park locations investigated for a visit and more exercise - check! Moaning DP to take along - oh dear Sad

Howlongtillbedtime · 26/01/2019 12:24

gimme I agree about speaking to your gp . Or are there any online forums for your particular condition. It sounds really frustrating.

I am finally not ill anymore so I have managed to get my are to the gym for the first time in over a week.
I can concentrate again with feeling nauseous so meal planning on a bit then off shopping to try and find something to wear that doesn't make me look as fat and frumpy as I feel .We are going out to a party tonight and in all honesty I would rather stay home.and watch the voice! Grin

Good luck with your dh ruby
whose I hope the lurgy hasn't hit you too hard.

Morning all

Who needs a kick ? After being ill for a week I have now given myself a big fat kick up the bum. I have been to the gym yesterday and today and have meal planned for the week.

That week I was ill I undid any weight I had lost which is rubbish. But I am not giving up this time. I am going to keep on keeping on .

I am not going to be fat at Christmas this year.

I am going to tackle my wardrobe today. I have kept so many clothes just in case one day I slim but I have decided that even when I do slim I won't want to wear clothes that have been mocking me for years Grin

I hope everyone is a having a good weekend.

Onwards and upwards losers !!

Some advice would be nice. I'm anorexic. I had my appendix removed in late '16 and had a surgeon rip me a new one (I was 115kg). Laughed it off until my gallbladder decided to get infected (May '17). By November had dropped to 90kg. By Nov '18 I'd risen to 105kg. I'm limited in what I can eat, and the amount, and that's without the anorexia. I fast a lot, due anorexia, and the ano isn't something likely to improve anytime soon. Bed bound too. Any tips for dropping weight with an enforced sedentary lifestyle? I'm male btw.

Howlongtillbedtime · 27/01/2019 12:39

Hi timeless I am so sorry you have had such a tough time of it.

I would guess the best person to speak too would be your gp ? Or do you have a support system around your eating disorder ? It must be so hard to be brave enough to talk about it.

I wou!dnt know where to start with advice on you losing weight but you are more than welcome to hang around and let us know how you are getting on.

I have heard good things about BEAT . They have a good online presence of you don't feel up to talking face to face.
