Christmas in the sunshine - where would you go?

Pondering something different for next year - a week in the sun, no cooking, stuff for older teens to do. Tell me about your dream destination please Smile

I’ve just come back from Marrakech, it was lovely and sunny. Not Christmassy at all though so depends whether you want somewhere that will put on more of a traditional Christmas.

ChippyMinton · 26/12/2018 10:31

That sounds lovely. There would be enough Christmassy stuff in December to keep me happy.

We spent Christmas in Kerala once, and it was wild.

Deathraystare · 26/12/2018 10:37

Always wanted to go to Kerela. Mind you I had Christmas in Costa Brave once! It was warm cardigan weather and was pleasant and most of the bars were closed so the "Here we go" Brit louts were not around.

ChippyMinton · 26/12/2018 10:51

Googling like mad!
Tell me more about Kerala, it looks stunning.

We are in Mallorca. It is lovely and sunny but jumperish weather.

Paddybare · 26/12/2018 11:01

Have not done it yet but christmas in the Caribbean would be right up my street. Great beach weather, 8ish hour flight so not too bad and, with a really wide choice of places to stay, as luxury (or not) as you like.

maddiemookins16mum · 26/12/2018 11:01

Goa, it will be hot and sunny AND Christmassy (at least 50% are catholic). I spent Christmas there once and it was fabulous.

PlainVanilla · 26/12/2018 11:22

I have been to both Jamaica and Sri Lanka over Christmas.
Can recommend, although I thought Sri Lanka had a slight edge, but that may be because we loved the "cheesy" cotton wool snow on the windows of our hotel's reception area as well as the blow up, plastic Father Christmas decorations everywhere.

Expatworkingmum · 26/12/2018 11:49

I’m in Thailand right now and it’s wonderful!

amnotreallysure · 26/12/2018 11:54

I spent a few years in San Diego, southern California. The climate is very pleasant all year round, but not especially warm or beach weather at this time of year. High teens, wear a sweater in the evenings, etc. Lots of things to do, beach, zoo, hiking, theme parks. But often lots of driving in busy traffic too.

redshoes2017 · 26/12/2018 12:01

I'm sat by the pool now in Lanzarote, it's mid 20s. Love going away for Christmas x

Envy at these wonderful trips.
Is the weather reliable in the Canary Islands? I’ve Never been but the short flight is appealing. Not sure my budget would stretch to the Maldives!

Oh don’t tempt me
Got back from Tenerife a week today and could quite happily get on the plane this afternoon

Dowser · 26/12/2018 13:12

OlennasWimple · 26/12/2018 13:16

Cyprus is lovely weather and lots of options for accomodation

The Caribbean is also lovely but can be expensive at this time of year

ChippyMinton · 26/12/2018 13:19

Dowser, that sounds perfect.

Hadn’t thought of Cyprus. Thanks people for all the suggestions.
Those that are away, are you in a villa or hotel?

Barbados. It's lush 😍😍😍

Yesitwasmethistime · 26/12/2018 13:23

So we’re not the only ones desperately googling and trying to do something different next year. I think DH or the kids will kill my parents if we do the same as this year yet again next year.

We thought about Egypt or Tunisia? Also have older teens and not an enormous budget as got a big holiday in the summer.

Will be following with interest.

isseywithcats · 26/12/2018 14:30

We've come to Dubai the last four years now. We book a Christmas day lunch/brunch in advance, it's lovely and Christmassy (except we spend the morning on the beach first rather than fighting over the thermostat at home)!
