Pondering something different for next year - a week in the sun, no cooking, stuff for older teens to do. Tell me about your dream destination please Smile

Goa , a lovely 32 degrees !

GandolfBold · 27/12/2018 18:01

Been to Florida for Christmas and spent this year in the Dominican Republic. It was 28C most days. Chilling by the pool, did a few excursions and some water sports. Wish I was still there.

Next Christmas I will order gifts by mid November.
Also on Boxing Day I plan to start encouraging the kids to play board games with each other too. Might introduce a storytelling competition on Christmas Day and a singsong as well. Singing is fun. We may also consider going down the pub if we have enough time and money. A tableaux is not a bad idea either.

South Goa is fab In December. Wonderful decorations

expatmigrant · 27/12/2018 20:30

Oman. Sea, mountains and desert. Lots to do with teens. Fabulous weather and you can do Christmas brunch in the hotels. Muslim country with lots of Christians too, so all the hotels and malls are decked for Christmas

FiveGoMadInDorset · 27/12/2018 20:31

Mauritius

LouLou789 · 27/12/2018 21:56

@April 2020mom, sounds fantastic!

We always have a quiet, rather low-key Christmas. Next year my first grandchild will have arrived so we are planning a house rental with baby, parents and all four grandparents for a Waltons-style event. I am going to be in charge of games, can’t wait!

RLOU30 · 27/12/2018 22:00

The Gambia- west Africa

userxx · 27/12/2018 22:44

@Jacksback I've just been googling Goa, is there loads of stuff to do?

Sostenueto · 27/12/2018 22:46

An orphanage in Africa to show the real meaning of Xmas.

Yesitwasmethistime · 27/12/2018 23:45

@exLtEveDallas which hotel in Hurghada did you stay in?

Mississippilessly · 28/12/2018 01:11

I second Mauritius- amazing!

Loveweekends10 · 28/12/2018 01:17

Just setting of for marrakesh. Not sure I would want Xmas there though!

exLtEveDallas · 28/12/2018 07:09

@Yesitwasmethistime

For Christmas we stayed at the Jaz Aquaviva in Makadi Bay. I wouldn't stay there in the summer as I think the facilities wouldn't be enough when it was full (was about 50/60% at Christmas)

Friends stayed at the Jaz Aquamarine in Hurghada central the same time and said that was great too.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 28/12/2018 07:21

If you really want to avoid any work whatsoever I’d suggest a Christmas cruise to somewhere like the Caribbean, Cuba or similar. Change or scenery every day, glorious temperatures on the islands, plenty of variety to keep teens happy. Plus you won’t have to lift a finger. Cruises are very Marmite, though. Some people are very sniffy about them (I was) but if you keep an open mind they can be amazing.

MissWimpyDimple · 28/12/2018 07:51

We were in the canaries until the 22nd this year and it was lovely and hot. About 24 daytime.

It's quieter than usual but we loved it.

Our favourite so far was Corralejo in fuerteventura. Lanzarote was lovely too, not as keen on Tenerife....

mywigwamneedsnewflaps · 28/12/2018 08:02

Turkey at the moment , mid to late teens , very bright sun crisp breezes at times but better than the uk by a long way ,( 7 days with one day of rain. )

Ragwort · 28/12/2018 08:15

We’ve spent several Christmasses in the Colorado Rocky Mountains on ski trips, fabulous (if you like skiing), we’ve been a number of times so know the best places to eat and are welcome back at the same church year for the Christmas service. Ideal for teens.

Yesitwasmethistime · 28/12/2018 08:18

Thank you exLtEveDallas

MarshaBradyo · 28/12/2018 08:20

Thailand is excellent

anniehm · 28/12/2018 08:34

Me too, I'm thinking a cruise though, I'm eying one up to Australia, 6 weeks - kids are grown and dh can work anywhere as long as he can grab an internet connection every 2-3 days. Kids can go to their grandparents if they can't be bothered to cook

Delatron · 28/12/2018 08:35

Were thinking Sri Lanka at some point. Beautiful, warm and loads to do.

Oman is stunning too.

Delatron · 28/12/2018 08:35

We’re thinking.

Ragwort · 28/12/2018 08:38

Sorry just read the thread title is ‘Christmas in the sunshine, where would you go?’, so skiing probably not the right suggestion although you do get very bright, sunny days in ski resorts Grin.
