Best John Lewis voucher

Worst : Cheap teen brand body mist I will literally never use

prettywhiteguitar · 25/12/2018 18:43

Best - beautiful watch from dh with mother of pearl face

Worst - book about grammar from ‘dear’ narc mother. I’m dyslexic Grin with too big gardening gloves and some tea towels

LunaTheCat · 25/12/2018 18:54

Oh dear. My presents from my DH where hideous - he always told me he was a bad gift giver so I have been pre warned. 1. LEGO set of the Great Wall China - WTF have always told him that China is a country I don’t want to visit. 2. A vase thing -but you can’t put flowers inas not glazed inside. From one of those shops which sell on behalf of craft makers in 3rd world. Terrible picture on outside of men carrying a woman on tear shoulders in bright garish colours - think bright blue and orange and brown. It is hideous!
He’s a little very man so I can’t bear to tell him but we have been married 17 years so he should know!

flameycakes · 25/12/2018 19:00

My ex bought me an iron one year, 10 years since we split and this year he buys me a beautiful enamel jewellery box, go figure lol x

LunaTheCat · 25/12/2018 19:01

Oops should read kind not little man...

BendyLikeBeckham · 25/12/2018 19:02

@bathtimesanity are you sure that isn't a festive butt plug? Grin

Atetoomanymincepies · 25/12/2018 19:07

Best, a kitchenaid. I know it's a kitchen appliance but I love it!

Worst, one of them naff manicure sets that I will give to DD

motortroll · 25/12/2018 19:08

Best: band T-shirt and running too as the only gifts I wasn't expecting!

Worst: scarf from mil. Bit weird!

motortroll · 25/12/2018 19:09

The scarf is weird....not mil! She did say it was free with the tights she got me (which are cool!!) so not that bad!

ShotsFired · 25/12/2018 19:09

Only had a couple of token gifts from hobbies/clubs as not having Christmas with family for a few weeks.

And one of those was mint matchsticks Envy(not envy, I loathe mint chocolate! Sure I can find a loving home though...)

hidinginthenightgarden · 25/12/2018 19:10

Best DNAfit- worst a candle in a holder. I could smell it well before I finished unwrapping. Way too strong and I have no use for candles.

FabulouslyFab · 25/12/2018 19:14

Too many bests to mention
Worst - annual bottles of wine from bosses at work. I don’t drink and they know it! A bottle of vimto would’ve been preferable.

SuperMumTum · 25/12/2018 19:37

We don't really do presents in my family except my dad who always gets me kitchen or garden stuff I have no use for so I wasn't holding out much hope but this year he gave me some lovely booze and posh food. That said, the best present was the naff ornament my 7 year old chose for me and the worst was the white chocolate Lindor that my ex gave me on behalf of my 3 year old which he definitely didn't get a say in. I always get the kids to hand make and choose thoughtful gifts for him but every year he just chucks a box of Lindor in with his weekly shop and pretends it's from them. I love that the 7 year old this year obviously went with something she thought I would like (even though it is hideous).

PottyPotterer · 25/12/2018 19:45

Best - a beautiful painting by my very talented relative
Worst - another painting regifted to me by another relative. I gave it to her 2 months ago for her birthday, turns out she didn't like it, fine but don't fucking giving it back to me still raging at the cheek. Almost as bad as the bottle of de-icer ds10 got from an elderly relative, not sure if not was a joke or he's losing his marbles.

Teddy1970 · 25/12/2018 19:47

Maybe for next year Redcherries?

AlpacaPicnic · 25/12/2018 19:57

I got a big pile of Terry Pratchett's books which was brilliant, and 'the cats' bought me a new toaster which I'm very happy about!

(Our old toaster was a wedding gift 16 years ago and has given up! But nobody would buy me a new one as it was 'too boring' for a Christmas gift. But I like practical gifts!)

Worst was the calendar of boasting that we get every year from BIL... 12 months of photos showing us how great all their holidays are, and showing off their favourite child - but not so much their other three children Hmm

PavlovianLunge · 25/12/2018 19:58

Yes, @ChestyNut a genuine (afaik) glass eye. I don’t need a glass eye, so quite what the inspiration for the gift was. I still have it, but have no idea quite what to do with it.

Best and Worst/ strangest gift
elfyears · 25/12/2018 20:00

Best: new watch from DH .... even if my other watch is only a few months old. Worst: a pair of slippers..... both are left feet. Now to organise a return!

W0rriedMum · 25/12/2018 20:02

@Teddy1970 - oooooo the art deco ring sounds amazing! Can you share a photo?
I love art deco jewellery.

ChestyNut · 25/12/2018 20:03

pavlovian wins the thread Xmas Grin

Best gift? a lovely woollen scarf/wrap

Strangest gift? a bag of dried pasta

Loveweekends10 · 25/12/2018 20:04

Best - digital radio my daughter bought me.

Worst - digital radio dh bought me!

AveAtqueVale · 25/12/2018 20:05

Best gift - Lego Hogwarts from DH.

Worst/ strangest - some grey, slightly transparent footless tights from MIL, many sizes too small Confused. She also gave me some very nice earrings and a few other fun little bits so I’m not put out but I genuinely had no idea how to react when I opened them Xmas Grin.

evilharpy · 25/12/2018 20:09

Best: a Hitchcock movie box set which I can’t wait to work my way through

Worst: absolutely pointless thin book of unfunny sayings about gin.

Sorry I can’t remember how to do links.

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1912511045/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_J0OiCbB4597HG?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Weirdest: a bizarre Street Fighter hoodie that I might have liked when I was 13 but given that I dress quite conservatively and my outerwear tends to be either a camel wool coat or a Hobbs trench, I can’t see it getting much use before it heads to the charity shop.

Grannyannex · 25/12/2018 20:10

A huge shopping bag of chocolate. I made the mistake of saying I’d like a bar in my stocking but then got more from each of my children. While I like the odd treat I don’t want that much. Have bagged it up and will take it to work
