Asda at midnight

xlexiix · 23/12/2018 21:38

So thanks to DH coming down with what I can only describe as some kind of excercist style vomiting we can no longer go to DMs from Christmas Eve untill 27th.

As we are meant to be leaving in the morning I have nothing in the house would I be mad to go to Asda at 12:01 when it opens and do a food shop..

Has anyone been on a Monday at midnight before is it usually well stocked? Am I walking into a disaster zone? Or should I go tomorrow morning?

Help

Staff will have been working since 4pm stocking shelves so it will be stocked for the final rush so you would be better off going at 12am before anyone else gets in. However I imagine others have the same plan.

TenThousandSpoons · 23/12/2018 21:42

I would think it would be fully stocked as they would have re-stocked after closing today. I’d go for it. Good luck and hope DH feels better soon.

Notso · 23/12/2018 21:42

None of our supermarkets open until 7.

I'd imagine you can get most things though if you go early.

xlexiix · 23/12/2018 21:42

@juneybean that's my fear I could actually kill him I know it's not his fault but it's Christmas eve! I purposely finished all my food shopping earlier in the month to avoid this!

Also have the dilemma of do I bother to put up the tree now or do I just forget it's Christmas at all..

Arghh

Hope your DH is better soon and doesn't share the wealth.

xlexiix · 23/12/2018 21:44

I have checked mine says it opens at 12:01 till 7pm I'm going to be big and brave and go cursing under my breath...

The last two years I've found the shops are much quieter Christmas Eve than the 23rd, especially late afternoon. It will be fine midnight or waiting I reckon.

PinkFizzz · 23/12/2018 21:45

Is it just you and DH? Sod the Christmas tree if so.

How much food will you really need if he's spewing everywhere anyway?

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 23/12/2018 21:47

I've always found it quieter on Christmas eve tbh, and at midnight I bet it will be dead quiet!

Crunchymum · 23/12/2018 21:49

Don't go too overboard.... sickness bugs can be catching (sorry to be voice of doom!!)

AveEldon · 23/12/2018 21:49

I would go, you will probably find lots of restocking going on but otherwise it should be fairly quiet

xlexiix · 23/12/2018 21:50

Just me and DH we won't need much for don't need turkey etc just normal food I have no bread milk or any kind of lunches or dinners.

I also am feeling sad I won't get any of the good bits of Christmas (chocolates, camembert etc!) if I don't actually go to the shop

Damn him!

I’m going to do a drive past ours at just after midnight and see how busy it is...

I only need a couple of bits (which I stupidly didn’t pick up Xmas Hmm)

Mainly soft drinks and a pudding (my Yule log went in the bin)

BubblesBubblesBubbles · 23/12/2018 21:51

Ps hope your dh gets better soon and doesn’t pass it on to you

PinkHeart5914 · 23/12/2018 21:53

I’d go at 12:01 just to get in done tbh!

Brandy, champagne and wine will kill of the bug right, right? So you don’t catch it

Get some ibuprofen

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 23/12/2018 21:55

you probably won't be able to buy alcohol at midnight.....

TokyoSushi · 23/12/2018 21:56

Yes ours opens at 12:01 too, I'd go if you don't mind staying up!

xlexiix · 23/12/2018 21:57

If he passes it onto me it will be his last Christmas!

He has already been told very unsympathetically to stop with the sick man noises! Yes darling I know your sick but that doesn't mean you have to pretend your 5!!

Arggggg

I need alcohol well reminded! That will help and I can hit him over the head with the empty bottle and shut him up for a while. I am normally a very sane loving person just this has tipped me over the edge.

Get some antiseptic wipes too and do the flush, taps , lightpull and door handle every time he goes near the bathroom. Separate towels too. Really works to stop you getting it.

Happy Christmas!

FoofFighter · 23/12/2018 21:57

Get some dioralyte in...

Tippexy · 23/12/2018 21:59

I've only just realised that 24 hour supermarkets will be re-opening at midnight tonight! Amazing!

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 23/12/2018 22:08

Yes generally they will be well stocked and people don't tend to go and buy food on Christmas Eve. I remember being in a very long queue at M&S while I could see a fridge of similar turkeys all sitting waiting for the occasional person to turn up and saunter up to the empty tills while we all had to wait half an hour for our click and collect orders which we had already paid for. I reckon skip the turkey and just get lots of pigs in blankets!

xlexiix · 23/12/2018 22:23

Right so the list so far is

Dirolight (I can't spell that)
Antibacterial everything
Ibuprofen
Pigs in blankets (all of them)
Camembert
Wine
Gin
Lemonade
Celebrations

I will have a good Christmas!

Bleach
Cheese and Crackers (good for eating solo in front of tv!)
Ready salted crisps (good for poorly tummies and still feels a bit like junk food)

widgetbeana · 23/12/2018 22:32

Ooooo and a yummy pudding of some kind!
