OMG I'm thick as mince

I was just doing an online trivia quiz and one of the answers mentioned that zebra crossings are so-called because the black and white stripes resemble a zebra's coat. I can't believe that not once in my 40-odd years on this planet did I twig the connection!

What else have I missed...? Confused

diddl · 21/12/2018 21:50

"Anyone get what inspired my username?"

T Rex?

moofolk · 21/12/2018 21:51

You're clearly a Bolan fan!

But Rebus? Please explain!

OublietteBravo · 21/12/2018 21:51

Only smarties (i.e. a diminutive for smart people) have the answer.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 21/12/2018 21:51

Might just be me who didn't know this until recently but..hair grips are designed to go into your hair the flat side showing, the ridged side goes inwards holding onto your hair better.I tried it and it's miles better lol

FairNotFair · 21/12/2018 21:52

I was about 40 before I worked out the significance of "Cupid Stunt".

I laughed to myself all the way down the street.

RyderWhiteSwan · 21/12/2018 21:52

Yassss! my favourite TRex song. Yeah I'm oooooold Xmas Grin

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 21/12/2018 21:54

My friend, really quite bright, didn’t realise alphabet came from the first 2 letters in the Greek alphabet, alpha beta. Like a posh ABC.

gillybombilly · 21/12/2018 21:54

I thought that ‘Kiosk Keith’ on I’m A Celebrity was called ‘Chaos Keith’ until last year - I’m mustard (that means really thick) Xmas Blush

UhYeahISureHopeItDoes · 21/12/2018 21:54

Leaving lights on inside the car isn't actually illegal

When someone tells you to hold your horses they're telling you to be stable

Be there or be square means you won't be 'a-round'

MissClareRemembers · 21/12/2018 21:54

I started a similar thread a while back because I’d only just discovered that Magdalene College, Oxford is pronounced Maudlin.

Only in recent years have I fully understood the process of pressing up or down arrows to call lifts.

MauisLeftNipple · 21/12/2018 21:54

The character in Moana is called Maui, not Maori!

MauisLeftNipple · 21/12/2018 21:55

Sorry x posted

RyderWhiteSwan · 21/12/2018 21:56

@SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc I learned this recently too. A lifetime of using hairgrips upside down Xmas Blush

Haggisfish · 21/12/2018 21:57

Of course!!! Doh!!!Grin I’m a smartie now, too!Wink

DarkDarkNight · 21/12/2018 21:58

I was collecting the loyalty cards from McDonald’s hot drinks instead of collecting the stickers on one loyalty card. I felt as thick as mince when my Dad pointed it out. I’m so glad I didn’t get to 6 and try to claim my free drink!

On a similar note I once sent my boyfriend at the time to put the lottery on with the Saturday and Sunday boxes both ticked instead of the ‘both’ box. It was voided and he said the woman on the till looked at him like he was stupid.

I have no common sense whatsoever Blush

UhYeahISureHopeItDoes · 21/12/2018 21:58

Oh and I had no idea ducks could fly until the cat jumped out of the kitchen window and made the birds on our front garden fly back to the pond. I just stood there, mouth open, gawping at about 30 ducks flying in the sky. I have no idea what I thought they did to get around? Just stayed in a pond forever and walked. It never occurred to me that they would fly.

NancyDonahue · 21/12/2018 21:59

Until very recently (watching Dynasties) I had no idea that tigers don't live on Africa.
