60,000 cases of measles in Europe in the last 12 months.

72 deaths.

Preventable.

OP posts:
WilburforceRaven · 21/12/2018 19:16

Fucking ignorant and irresponsible parents.

PickleMeThis · 21/12/2018 19:19

They refuse because they would rather have a dead child than an autistic one like me

This makes me so mad. My ds has autism. The signs started showing when he was 13 months, a few weeks after he had the mmr.

But, If a child has autism that’s the age when it starts to get noticed!

I’m pregnant again and my baby will still be getting vaccinated.

flamingofridays · 21/12/2018 19:30

They should be persecuted its selfish and irresponsible. Not only are they risking their own childrens lives, theyre risking the lives of the children too young to be vaccinated, the immunocompromised and anyone else vulnerable.

Can these people seriously say they could live with themselves if their child got measles and passed it onto say a friends newborn baby?

Even if it was the mildest case of measles any gp had ever seen i would be MORTIFIED.

Thentherewascake · 21/12/2018 19:31

I am not sure what you think insulting parents who are trying to do what they think is best is going to achieve.

ItIsChristmasTime · 21/12/2018 19:33

Also, many children contract measles even when they have been vaccinated.

Can you link research proving this because I am afraid that I don’t believe many children do.

Thentherewascake · 21/12/2018 19:33

I had measles as a kid, so did most of my friends. On the other hand, we had all jabs against TB which is not given here.

and by the way: In 2017, an estimated 1 million children became ill with TB and 230 000 children died of TB (including children with HIV associated TB).

flamingofridays · 21/12/2018 19:34

Nobody can honestly believe making a conscious decision not to vaccinate is "best". Putting your child at risk of a potentially fatal disease is not "best" or infact even close to best.

SherlockHolmes · 21/12/2018 19:35

I can't believe people still think the MMR vaccine is the cause of autism.

Thentherewascake · 21/12/2018 19:36

Nobody can honestly believe making a conscious decision not to vaccinate is "best"
nobody can be ignorant enough to believe that vaccination is 100% risk free and that

Other more rare but serious complications reported by Merck in MMR vaccine post-marketing surveillance include:3

brain inflammation (encephalitis) and encephalopathy (chronic brain dysfunction);
panniculitis (inflammation of the fat layer under the skin);
atypical measles; syncope (sudden loss of consciousness, fainting);
vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels);
pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas);
diabetes mellitus;
thrombocytopenia purpura (blood disorder);
leukocytosis (high white blood cell count);
anaphylaxis (shock);
bronchial spasms;
arthritis and arthralgia (joint pain);
myalgia (muscle pain);
polyneuritis (inflammation of several nerves simultaneously).
As of March 31, 2018, there have been more than 89,355 reports of measles vaccine reactions, hospitalizations, injuries and deaths following measles vaccinations made to the federal Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS), including 445 related deaths, 6,196 hospitalizations, and 1,657 related disabilities. Over 60% of those adverse events occurred in children three years old and under. Adverse events following MMR vaccination reported to VAERS include:

lupus (autoimmune connective tissue disorder);
Guillain-Barre syndrome (inflammation of the nerves);
Encephalitis;
aseptic meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain);
deafness;
cardiomyopathy (weakening of the heart muscle);
hypotonic-hyporesponsive episodes (collapse/shock);
convulsions;
subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE);
ataxia (loss of ability to coordinate muscle movements);
parathesia (numbness, burning, prickling, itching, tingling skins sensation indicating nerve irritation)
Transverse Myelitis
Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM)
In both its MMRII and ProQuad product information inserts4, 5 Merck also notes that during MMR vaccine post-marketing surveillance, there have been post-vaccination reports of:

pneumonia;
erythema multiforme (skin disorder from an allergic reaction or infection);
urticarial rash (hives, itching from an allergic reaction);
measles-like rash;
burning/stinging at the injection site;
nerve deafness;
otitis media (ear infection);
retinitis (inflammation of the retina of the eye);
optic neuritis (inflammation of the optic nerve);
conjunctivitis.

My baby niece got whooping cough from a do gooder I hate vaccines, who brought her children along to Mums and Babies group activity, hacking away and 3 days later let the mums know they had whooping cough. Did anyone else want to come and share.

4 weeks in ITU and 2 arrests - were the result of her freedom of actions.

My sis thought her baby was in a safe environment, some feckwit decided to play Russian Roulette with someone elses child and not tell them - not bloody right. Pre meditated, thought out, understoog the consequences of her actions and executed - niece has survived otherwise I would say that was murder.

flamingofridays · 21/12/2018 19:40

I never said vaccination was risk free.

There is less chance of my child dying of a complication from vaccination than there is of him getting seriously ill, or passing on a preventable disease.

I would pick the vaccination every time.

lljkk · 21/12/2018 19:45

tbf, most of those who get measles in Europe each year R people who didn't have the chance to get vaccinated, they are people excluded from health care systems. Not being vaxed isn't a lifestyle choice for them.

Thentherewascake · 21/12/2018 19:47

flamingofridays
so did I, 4 kids= 4 full set of vaccinations
BUT it wasn't an easy decision because Janet from Mumsnet said so, and the ridiculous title of this thread is not going to change anybody's opinion. If it wasn't such a serious subject, it would just put off people having the jab!

flamingofridays · 21/12/2018 19:51

Maybe it wont change anyones opinion but were still allowed to discuss it.

If it changes the mind of one unsure person then great.

Nothing would change the mind of a militant antivaccer, seemingly not even a preventable death.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 21/12/2018 19:52

The link above is in response to itischristmastime

Thentherewascake · 21/12/2018 19:57

the numbers given by the OP would do absolutely nothing to convince me, they would more likely put me off if I was hesitating frankly.

Jenny17 · 21/12/2018 19:58

Thanks InSpace It's interesting that the unvaxxed being blamed when www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1646939/ is a definite case of where unvaxxed were not to blame.

ItIsChristmasTime · 21/12/2018 20:12

But the in-depth research to that link states:

However, since the vaccine is not 100 per cent effective, there will always be some proportion of vaccinees (10 per cent or less) who remain susceptible to the disease.

The vaccine has always been known to not be 100% effective and this still stands.

Overall, eight cases (30 per cent) were preventable, three with no history of vaccination and five who had been vaccinated at less than 12 months of age. The remaining 19 cases were non-preventable and had all received at least one dose of vaccine at 12 months of age or older.

So your idea of many cases of those who have been vaccinated getting measles is 19 from this one off, small study and not all of that 19 were fully vaccinated with all three childhood vaccines.

The overall attack rate of 0.8 per cent in the school, among presumably adequately vaccinated students, was below the expected 2-10 per cent primary vaccine failure rate for measles vaccines.

Even this study of many shows that the infected rate was well below the expected level.

flamingofridays · 21/12/2018 20:13

Why? Do you think its ok for people to die when it could have been easily prevented?

What if your child was one of those 72?

stabulous · 21/12/2018 20:18

Anti vaxxers are a fucking scourge.

JennyHolzersGhost · 21/12/2018 20:24

Some of the ignorance of anti vaxxers is just embarrassing. What’s more embarrassing is that they don’t even seem to care.

jomaIone · 21/12/2018 20:24

I 100% agree that all children should be vaccinated but 72 people in ALL of Europe is 0.0001% of the population which is obviously miniscule.

Therighthonourable · 21/12/2018 20:36

72 deaths might be low but how many of those children caught the disease, didn't die but are living with life changing complications?

Thentherewascake · 21/12/2018 20:43

What if your child was one of those 72?
what is my child was one of the victims of the adverse reaction? What if the child is the one who will have a seizure or a severe allergic reaction?

It's ridiculous to pretend it's an easy choice.

The posters who have no argument but insults others who made different choice can't find a valid argument to argue their point. Not helpful.
