I'm going to treat you all to my unpopular Christmas opinion.

You CAN send Christmas cards AND donate money to charity. Anyone who says they're not sending cards so they can donate the money to charity is just a Scrooge.

Not everyone celebrates Christmas so don't be so shocked and look at me as if I've got 10 heads when I say that I don't. Also, don't keep going on about how the children must be missing out. They're really not.

Bestseller · 16/12/2018 19:43

@ Mayra1367 are you including the cost of the stamps? Wink

TheBaltictriangle · 16/12/2018 19:44

We participate lightly with friends but have another celebration at another time of the year.

I don't send cards because I'm lazy and disorganised - I can never find addresses (had to send my brothers gift to his work because I could look up the address online!)

SnuggyBuggy · 16/12/2018 19:52

Also fuck crappy relatives. Toxic families don't just become non-toxic because of the magic of Christmas

goingtotown · 16/12/2018 20:39

Everything with glitter.

LadyFlumpalot · 16/12/2018 20:49

It's possible to have "Xmas Day" on different dates to the 25th December. Xmas is about being around your family and loved ones so it makes fuck all difference if it happens to be the 27th or the 21st December.

This opinion is highly unpopular with my In-laws who don't get why I won't travel 200 miles with two young DCs on the actual 25th. Before anyone asks, they won't travel to us and there is no room to stay at theirs.

Mayra1367 · 16/12/2018 21:02

Yes Bestseller , cost of stamps included. Our family has and continues to be affected by Cancer so money going to cancer research instead.

Lweji · 16/12/2018 21:30

Jumping on a plane to somewhere warm where I'm going to sit in the sun and read a few books then when the uk has reached maximum stress levels and calmed down again I come back and get back to work

My dearest brother goes one up.
He takes off on holiday and returns just in time for him & SIL not to be able to contribute to any Christmas preparations either at his ILs or with his side of the family.

I'm hosting Christmas Eve this year and I'm thinking of making the guests put up the Christmas decorations while singing joyous songs. It's all about making memories. WinkGrin

chibsortig · 16/12/2018 21:32

I refuse to send cards to friends and neighbours that i see daily, i can wish them merry xmas in person. I post cards to my grans and aunts so about 6 in total.
Im lazy and i dont donate to charity either in lieu of buying cards.
I do donate to charity though.

We are doing that this year. It’s been the least stressful December since becoming an adult. Dds are in their twenties and they and their partners are coming too, along with my brother and his family. But we are having a very low key Xmas day as it seems silly to take lots of presents, half way round the world.

We probably won’t do it next year, but I’m definitely going to to do the low key Xmas day again.

Pieceofpurplesky · 17/12/2018 00:19

I don't send cards as I can't be arsed to write them and hate them cluttering the place up.

Bread sauce = baby vomit

Party games for adults.

And sorry for this PP as I know it's your choice - but people who tell kids Father Christmas isn't real when they are tiny

kateandme · 17/12/2018 03:10

its just a roast dinner.its not hard.
sprouts are fab.
veg is fab tasting ofitself its doesn't need flavouring basting sautéing to hide or make it taste good.
it DOES matter if you have money.
there IS guilt if you cant afford presents and no hand made isn't better because people DONT see it that way when it comes to presents.and DO expet something bought.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 17/12/2018 03:44

My unpopular Christmas opinion is that panto is crap.

I don't get the fuss over a bunch of zlist alcoholics, ex drug addicts and making our children sit through their awful jokes in shows which are exactly the same year after year.

moredoll · 17/12/2018 03:57

Every Christmas I get an email from my cousin saying that they're not sending cards and wishing us a Happy Christmas, and a card from his wife which she signs with both their names.

SimplySteve · 17/12/2018 04:50

Christmas can go fuck itself, then fuck itself some more.

Bluesheep8 · 17/12/2018 06:16

I don't like mince pies, Christmas cake or Christmas pudding.

Bluesheep8 · 17/12/2018 06:18

And I hate getting Christmas cards from people except family. And being expected to wear a Christmas jumper.

Bluesheep8 · 17/12/2018 06:20

And I haven't put the tree up this year

SimplySteve · 17/12/2018 06:23

I don't like mince pies

Shock I've already consumed a few dozen puff pastry ones Blush

Hisaishi · 17/12/2018 06:25

Christmas cards. What a pointless waste of time and money and paper. Something you look at for one second, hang up and forget about, from someone you never contact otherwise or who you can greet in person.

People who declare it their favouritest day of the year, wear stupid sweaters, sing songs from October onwards, call you a scrooge if you're not into it...grow the fuck up, seriously.

People who do the above and then spend all day getting drunk and watching telly...just halfwits, honestly.

Christmas is fine but let's all just calm the fuck down about it, the UK really buys into all the marketed shite, I've never been to any country where people have a hard-on for such utter mediocrity.

ChocomelandRinglings · 17/12/2018 06:43

What really annoys me is the people who “donate to charity” instead and advertise it all over Facebook. Oh well done you. You’re such a hero. Some of us donate/ volunteer all year round. Charity is for life, not just for Christmas! Grin Rant over...

SnuggyBuggy · 17/12/2018 06:57

I actually like the look of Christmas cards hung up. If the tradition dies because everyone would prefer to boast about how wonderful they are donating to charity instead I will probably keep some old ones to put up with some string every year.

Hisaishi · 17/12/2018 06:57

"Some of us donate/ volunteer all year round."

Didn't you just do the same thing as you're accusing others of doing?

gamerwidow · 17/12/2018 07:09

I love Christmas but hate cards, such a waste of paper and they can’t all be recycled. I just quietly don’t do them though rather than banging on about it.
I hate matchy matchy trees and the big piles of presents photos on FB.
By all means take a pic for your own records if you want to but to post it feels a bit ‘look how much I’ve got!’.
