What did you give birth in?

I'm trying to get my hospital bag ready and have now packed 2 nighties and a set of pjs.

What did you give birth in? Was it just a bra or anything else? I'm trying to be as prepared as possible!

  1. Very large t-shirt and maternity bra
  1. Tankini top (in birth pool)
  1. Nothing (also in pool)
KennDodd · 13/12/2018 17:44

I heart NY tee-shirt. All three times. It was my lucky 'give birth' tee-shirt.

MrsSteveMcDonald · 13/12/2018 17:44

First time just a bra I think and the second time 1 sock.

Both times an old Primark nighty. Binned afterwards as neither of them were a pretty sight and stain remover wasn't touching them!

Delatron · 13/12/2018 18:35

Naked as I attempted a water birth both times.

Think I planned on wearing a top but couldn’t be bothered. I was naked for about 30 hours. In and out of that bloody pool. Didn’t care that I was naked or who saw me

icebearforpresident · 13/12/2018 18:51

Same nighty both times, once with odd socks on. My midwife commented on the socks and I remember trying to explain mid-contraction that my sock rule is if they come from the same multipack they are a pair and getting frustrated that she just didn’t get how genius this is (I was also high as a kite on g&a so may have made it a bigger deal than it was).

Weirdly my husband wore the same flannel shirt both times, by coincidence superstition, and now he calls it his birthing shirt.

icebearforpresident · 13/12/2018 18:52

*not superstition

Strokethefurrywall · 13/12/2018 18:54

Naked first time (or perhaps they'd thrown a hospital gown on me when I was pushing, I assume so.

Second was naked except hospital gown. Was epidural labour so I slept right through it.

MiddlingMum · 13/12/2018 19:02

Not sure as I was under general anesthetic but I suspect some sort of surgical gown. Never thought about it until now to be honest!

ChikiTIKI · 13/12/2018 19:25

A long tshirt that I usually wore with leggings. So I would have some dignity but be comfortable. I took off my leggings and underwear pretty early on and never but them back on. I had an epidural eventually so just had bed sheets on my legs until pushing.

I did actually take an old tshirt to give birth in but once things got started (labour was induced) it didn't cross my mind to have an outfit change.

PrincessDando · 13/12/2018 20:26

A nightie until they had to put me on a drip cos baby was in distress, coudln't get the thing through my sleeves so I told them to cut it off.. then it was the hospital gown.

saltymofo · 13/12/2018 20:44

Hospital gown both times so I didn't ruin my nighties. I took nightie, dressing gown, big pants and night-time strength sanitary towels for when I'd had a bath and cleaned up afterwards!

Juanbablo · 13/12/2018 20:49

A nightie twice and a hospital gown once. I still wear the nightie I wore when I gave birth to ds2 almost 5 years ago.

TheChristmasYouGetYouDeserve · 13/12/2018 20:50

Nude - I had been in just a bra in the delivery room, but when I was rushed to theatre for forceps they made me take the bra off and then there wasn't time for a gown...

Bubblegum12 · 13/12/2018 20:51

A nightie !
Could’ve been completely starkers for all I cared towards the end!

Heatherjayne1972 · 13/12/2018 21:12

Nothing got there too late to even put on a hospital gown
Can’t really remember how I ended up naked - I wasn’t bothered then or now
My husband howeve was disgusted tho

Neverunderfed · 13/12/2018 21:17
  1. nightie
  2. a dressing gown (trashed)
  3. a top, just got my trousers off in time 😁
Welshmum16 · 13/12/2018 21:21

Nothing, I had 2 water births 😁

callmecrazybut · 13/12/2018 21:32

Hospital gown! It's a messy business.

Beefandmixed · 13/12/2018 21:40

A button up shirt nighty, both times. Kept me covered enough that I was comfortable and undid the buttons for cuddles with babies and feeding.

Almostfifty · 13/12/2018 21:44

A Grandad shirt of my DH's that I'd been using as a nightie for ages for all four of them.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 13/12/2018 21:50

First, a short nighty.
Seccond, my pyjamas with bottoms removed in a hurry.
Third- naked!

MissCalamity · 13/12/2018 21:52

A maternity sleeping bra both times in the birthing pool.

FuckOffAndWriteYourOwnArticles · 13/12/2018 21:55

The first time I had a navy nightshirt on which I remember ripping off and throwing halfway across the room in an absolute fury after I threw up on it. I laboured naked after that for about 24 hrs and then they stuck me in a gown and took me to theatre for a forceps delivery.

Second time I had an ELCS so I was in a gown. All very civilised. I even had my nails and eyelashes done beforehand!

anniehm · 13/12/2018 21:57

Their stuff of course - why wreck yours! Take a bra that's comfortable though, a sports one is good in the birthing pool if you are self conscious
