What did you give birth in?

I'm trying to get my hospital bag ready and have now packed 2 nighties and a set of pjs.

What did you give birth in? Was it just a bra or anything else? I'm trying to be as prepared as possible!

With DD (3rd child) my labour was that fast I had on my lovely new (expensive) nightgown that I'd bought as a treat for being in hospital. Didn't have time to throw on my primark special Grin

With my boys I wore a thin strap primark nightdress. Bought it a couple sizes bigger as I didn't want to feel restricted and it was perfect for skin to skin when I delivered. And was great for binning once the mess was cleaned up!

I had a sports bra on, my ds was 2 months premature. I did have a hospital gown on but got very hot and flushed so took it off and just had a sports bra on 😁. X

Both times I had a red t-shirt style nighty but both times ended up wearing the top I'd been wearing when I arrived at the hospital. Luckily neither got ruined and I still wear the navy breton-style tee I had on with DC2 - though it's got a little bit holey by now.

Black nightie for DC1 - I had intended to change into an old tshirt but was so wired up on drips and various monitors (I’m diabetic) I couldn’t move let alone get changed.

DC2 a hospital gown - I was unconscious though so couldn’t really tell you but I came to 5 hours later wearing one!

Crunchymum · 13/12/2018 07:44

Black nightie, backless hospital gown (my choice, I wasn't feeling my nightie) and naked.

3 kids.

cjt110 · 13/12/2018 07:45

I gave birth with nothing on. It was August and I was sweltering.

I had packed some old pjs (that I didn't mind getting dirty/being thrown away) plus some nice new pjs and a dressing gown for after

notpushyinterested · 13/12/2018 07:46

my birthday suit both times

started off in a short beach dress thing but then got roasting hot and couldn't bear the fabric on me

DMCWelshCakes · 13/12/2018 07:49

Hospital gown first time (complex delivery in theatre).

Strappy pyjama vest top second time.

BillywigSting · 13/12/2018 07:51

I was induced. Went to hospital in jeans and a jumper and gave birth in an ancient and very tatty nighty that went straight in the bin when I haemorrhaged all over it.

It was cream coloured with kangaroos on at the start and black by the time I was done

silkpyjamasallday · 13/12/2018 07:52

I was in a hospital gown once I got to hospital, but by the time DD was born I had got totally naked, can't remember doing this at all Grin

Middlrm · 13/12/2018 07:54

I got to hospital fully dilated and in normal clothes had packed 3 nighties ... didn’t have time to get my bag out the car so in the end I was naked ... clothes are so hot and uncomfortable and your in enough pain you literally couldn’t care. I did appreciate that I brought nighties that button down the front which was handy for when i got my modesty back and I wanted to breast feed

HoppingPavlova · 13/12/2018 07:56

I asked for a hospital gown as didn’t want to get anything if my own manky as DH would have had to take it home to wash.

Also used paper undies and hospital pads. I hadn’t planned on wearing undies during labour but water broke before labour started and it was quite unpleasant with liquid constantly running down my legs and also was a safety hazard in regards to the floor, both myself, midwives, DH and OB could have slipped in it.

CharDeeMacDennis · 13/12/2018 07:59

Massive grey t-shirt from Ethel Austin. Wore it again for DC2 as I get weirdly superstitious about some things, and convinced myself that nothing could go wrong if I wore the same shirt (and nothing did, thankfully).

I'm having no more DC but still have the shirt packed away, can't bring myself to get rid!

elliejjtiny · 13/12/2018 08:04

Dc1 - one of dh's old t shirts
Dc 2 - my maternity nightie.
Dc3 - dh's rugby top (January and I thought I would be cold)
Dc4 - hospital gown (elcs)
Dc5 - same maternity nightie as dc2 (emcs)

By some miracle my nightie survived the vb of dc2 and the emcs of dc5. I puked on it during the emcs but it all came out in the wash.

Hen2018 · 13/12/2018 08:06

T shirt first time

Fully clothed second time. Got trousers off 2 mins before birth.

Neither in hospital.

IJustLostTheGame · 13/12/2018 09:36

I had a long t shirt, which I binned when donning the hospital gown for surgery. I also had a hideous flourescent Primark cardigan as I was freezing cold in a boiling hot hospital after giving birth.
That got binned a week later as I couldn't wash the smell out. Obviously I wasnt as cold as I first thought
Blush

IrmaFayLear · 13/12/2018 09:40

Dd turned up three weeks early and I was wearing a cocktail-type dress for an event. The nurses thought it was hilarious when I staggered in with this posh dress on and two bath towels between my legs. Even a few days later nurses new on shift were asking, "Were you the lady in the dress ?"

(I later sold the dress on ebay: "lightly worn" Blush )

Moltenpink · 13/12/2018 09:43

Wore a toweling dressing gown for my second, it was quite handy for not getting sweaty and access for feeding after.

Spanglyprincess1 · 13/12/2018 09:45

What I arrived at the hospital in minus pants! Very quick first labour and lots of drama as ds was in distressed with a dropping BP. I didn't even notice until I agree to get changed for surgery

Ifangyow · 13/12/2018 09:45

I started off in a hospital gown, but tore it off so ended up birthing naked, both times.

Thirtyrock39 · 13/12/2018 09:45

Snoopy nightie and got a bit superstitious about it so wore same one for all three births of my kids

Nothisispatrick · 13/12/2018 09:46

Hospital gown then pjs after I had a shower.

MiriAmmerman · 13/12/2018 09:49

DW laboured in just a vest top (initially had knickers on as well, but waters breaking put paid to those), but ended up with EMCS so midwives put her in a hospital gown.

astoundedgoat · 13/12/2018 09:52

Baby 1: naked I think

Baby 2: I arrived in horrible brown velour tracksuit bottoms, a maternity top & thick socks VERY much in active labour and FREAKED OUT when they tried to winkle me out of my bottoms & knickers (so much labour, didn't want to be touched) but they eventually got them off me, so I gave birth in my top & socks.

Whyislarryhappy · 13/12/2018 10:04

First birth was my nightdress, second birth was meant to be my night dress, but complications and they ordered me to put on a hospital gown.
