What did you give birth in?

I'm trying to get my hospital bag ready and have now packed 2 nighties and a set of pjs.

What did you give birth in? Was it just a bra or anything else? I'm trying to be as prepared as possible!

A nightie so it could just be hooked up and I still felt covered up. This time I've got a nightie with buttons at the front and back for epidural and feeding. It has short sleeves too which I prefer as I feel a bit exposed in strappy tips too.

  1. nothing - in & out of pool
  2. hospital gown - it was an induced and monitored labour so I was already in the gown by the time I went on the drip.

Naked is the best.

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 13/12/2018 11:55

Naked both times.

Apparently I was naked.

I'm sure I didnt start off that way!

BestZebbie · 13/12/2018 12:35

Naked. I had bought a pricey birthing nightie with a kangaroo brand on it and as soon as it really started to hurt I got so enraged by the use of a kangaroo (as they don't even give birth!) that I took it off and refused to wear it. Quite a lot of gas and air may have been involved...

OutPinked · 13/12/2018 12:51

A hospital gown last time, had a c-section. I gave birth in a black and white polka dot nightgown I got from primark the first three times and wore it last time once he’d been born. It’s like a tradition Grin.

Mrspotter12 · 13/12/2018 13:14

FDH football shirt!

DiaryofWimpyMum · 13/12/2018 13:29

First time s hospital gown the second I was still in my t shirt I didn't have time to get changed. I changed after having him then again 4 hours later to come home

CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese · 13/12/2018 15:47

1 A pink Betty Boop nighty. Betty is lying on her side with her leg in the air. In my mind while off my tits on drugs I decided it was too rude for my soon to be born ds to lie on. While I was in the stirrups and the doctor is preparing to do a Ventouse I asked him to not place the baby on Betty.

2 a pink and black striped nighty. I still have it and wear it 13 years later.
3 a black nighty that dd pooed on immediately. Still have and wear.

PiggyPlumPie · 13/12/2018 15:55

An nightie that my mum posted up to me when I asked her what I should wear. It was one of hers and she was too far away to be here at the time. It sounds silly but it made me feel close to her.

It was used for all three of my DC and I still have it upstairs.

PepperSteaks · 13/12/2018 15:58

Nothing at all!!

KaliforniaDreamz · 13/12/2018 15:59

maternity bra with vest over
leggings that eventually had to come off haha

Soubriquet · 13/12/2018 16:00

A nightgown

Frustratingly, I kept trying to strip naked as I felt so hot and I felt more comfortable but the midwife kept pulling my nightie back down Angry

Never did get to take the nightgown off

sabrinathethirtysomethingwitch · 13/12/2018 16:02

I bought a dark nightie from primary. Ended up in the nip for most of the labour though (in the bath). I had a bikini in my hospital bag Grin

sabrinathethirtysomethingwitch · 13/12/2018 16:02

*primark

Sweepington · 13/12/2018 16:02

I packed the family birthing nighty but ended up in the pool completely starkers. Treated myself to some really nice PJs to wear on the ward after!

Drogonssmile · 13/12/2018 16:05

first time the top I went into hospital in and some fluffy socks
second time just a crop top as I was in a pool
packed nighties both times and didn't wear them

icannotremember · 13/12/2018 16:09

DS1- a short but oversized nightie my DM had bought me specifically for the purpose, it was so, so ugly and she said it was so I wouldn't care if it got ruined.
Ds2- the PJ top I'd been wearing in bed the night before, as I woke up not long before labour started.
Ds3- I honestly cannot remember, but it will almost certainly have been the PJ top I already had on again. How weird that the most recent birth is the only one I can't remember what I was wearing.

Flamingosnbears · 13/12/2018 16:13

Hospital gown but I took my own pj's

Stephisaur · 13/12/2018 17:10

Just a longline vest top.

Had I gone in the pool I’d have either kept that on and got it wet, or just taken it off.

Pineapplepassion · 13/12/2018 17:20

A long baggy t shirt that I could bin after if needed. It was fine though mostly up under my armpits for the last couple of pushes 🤣

Wheresmrlion · 13/12/2018 17:23

My maternity dress. It was very quick, no time to change Shock

Shower afterwards then changed into one of the black maternity nighties that I had planned on giving birth in!

Iknowthatguy · 13/12/2018 17:26

A black nightie from primark

Crochetcrochetcrochet · 13/12/2018 17:30

Hospital gown both times I think - first was a crash c section, second an emergency. But both mine were early.

I had a Primark nighty to wear but never got the chance!

NanooCov · 13/12/2018 17:34

First I was in leggings and a bra and long sleeve tshirt at first. Leggings came off when I was examined and never went back on. Rest came off when I got in the shower and again never went back on. So most of the time nude.

Second, I was in PJs to begin with (was induced) but when my waters broke I took everything off apart from bra and vest top and that's the way I stayed.
