I've just watched The Holiday and now my toes need to be surgically unclenched

Worst film ever? Long, boring, weird, choppy editing, atrocious script, blatant Bridget Jones wannabe, and Jude fucking Law.

I've just realised I hadn't heard his voice before. Its the most unsexy voice this side of Jacob Rees Mogg.

Bizarre exercise montage in a pool.

World famous script writer with no friends until KW lovelies him.

When Diaz danced to the Killers I wanted to punch myself. I muted it and held on.

My sister in law watches this shite every year! I'm speechless. I don't want to see Jack Black kissing anybody, ever again. In fact I don't want to kiss anybody, ever again.

NO KISSING.

Haha Morris, I know.

Afterall he does have a cow in the back yard and can make a mean hot chocolate.

Father of the year there.

BehemothPullsThePeasantsPlough · 12/12/2018 23:05

I’ve never seen The Holiday. But if you’re telling me that Rufus Sewell comes out of it a poor second to Jack Black then I never will.

Owletty · 12/12/2018 23:09

Dreadful.

The bit about Cary Grant being from Surrey is also unforgivable.

Badmoonsarising · 12/12/2018 23:12

Love it, bah humbug ya grinch.

PrivateEggnog · 12/12/2018 23:42

The Cary Grant comment is really annoying. Why mention it if you're not even going to get it right? Xmas Hmm

Although having said that, the discussion of old romcoms (and are there clips of KW watching them as well? I can't remember now) is the best thing about the film.

MorrisZapp · 12/12/2018 23:48

I watched BBC Question Time once and there was a postman in the audience who was the absolute image of Rufus Sewell.

It was at least ten years ago but its seared in my mind.

Im watching an old Hammer film on the horror channel

Now THATS Christmas Xmas Grin

HelenaDove · 13/12/2018 00:20

Ive never seen Elf.

GunpowderGelatine · 13/12/2018 00:43

I really don't want to be drawn into watching this film, or Love Actually. As they're completely awful, yet every Christmas I somehow end up watching them both!

YY to not chemistry between Kate and Jack. Why couldn't they just keep her single?!

And god the prt at the end where...miracle, she cries!!! Let's just give up a successful career, home, life and security for someone you've known 2 weeks because you shed a couple of tears. Also, can you just move to the UK?!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/12/2018 00:44

You're not missing out Helena. I watched it yesterday (on a train with limited options!) and really didn't enjoy it much. I have a low tolerance for Will Ferrell anyway, and 90 minutes of him prancing around obnoxiously in yellow tights was too much for me.

I don't mind The Holiday. It's daft but fun (although I'm another one unconvinced by Jack Black as a romantic lead, sorry Jack!).

LoisWilkerson1 · 13/12/2018 00:45

Agreed. It's shite. As is Love Actually.

Rhubarbisevil · 13/12/2018 00:47

I love this film. Especially at the end when Jude Law cries and I shout at the telly “Ha! That’s for shagging the nanny!!!”

I always thought they were called Graeme and Iris after Graeme Greene and Iris Murdoch, cos their mum was big in publishing, geddit ?

HelenaDove · 13/12/2018 00:52

So Elf isnt worth it even for James Caan He seems quite funny in the trailer.

im also not a Will Farrell fan.

EnidButton · 13/12/2018 01:51

I find Jude Law and Cameron Diaz really hard to watch in anything so it's a double whammy for me. Perfectly fine actors but there's something about them I just can't be doing with.

I once stayed at a cottage it was supposedly based on...in the Cotswolds. So not the one for sale in Surrey. I wonder how many holiday cottages claim to be The One? Grin

Merrychristmasyoufilthyanimals · 13/12/2018 06:55

The only thing like in the holiday is "Mr Napkin head" where he basically acts like alan carr with a napkin n specs.

hugoagogo · 13/12/2018 07:09

Elf is bloody brilliant and I am not a Will Ferrell fan. It's got Bob Newhart in it ffs! Grin

ihatethecold · 13/12/2018 07:26

I was quite shocked at how dated and sexist Love actually is.
watched it last night and the script is dire.

GreenTeacup · 13/12/2018 10:04

Really struggle with how unrealistic the film is.

I mean who can run down a snow covered country lane in those heels?

Rhubarbisevil · 13/12/2018 10:45

So, what is going to happen in the sequel, The Holiday 2?

I typed Holiday II but it looks too much like Holiday Inn Grin

Iris moves to LA and dumps Jack for someone better and becomes a script writer.

Graeme and Amanda have a commuter relationship. The flights are too expensive for Graeme so he has to sell the cow and take the children out of their nice school.

Badtasteflump · 13/12/2018 10:54

It's got Bob Newhart in it ffs!

Absolutely the best Santa ever! I love Elf Grin. The scene where they have to whip up some Christmas Spirit with the impromptu sing song to get the sleigh to fly out of Central Park gets me all Christmas tingly!

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 13/12/2018 11:05

If you want to watch a feel good film at Christmas, watch About a Boy (OK, it's not a Christmas film but has Christmas in it). Watched it last night - brilliant.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/12/2018 11:10

Ok, I admit I like that bit Badtasteflump. And I like the elves in the North Pole.

It's the comedy running around and screaming that just puts me off, and it makes up quite a lot of the film...

Merrychristmasyoufilthyanimals · 13/12/2018 11:17

Rhubarbisevil awwwww noooo but they sell the cow not realising that they have sold it to a meat farmer and they have to try and save the cow but they are living a lovely life in LA. "Gram" and A-man-Durrr split up as they argue over the cow and Gram moves back with his parents, he saves the cow and he bumps into Amanda at a south beach diet gala in slough and they realise that they really do love each other and they all spend christmas dancing around the living room together including the cow.

starkid · 13/12/2018 11:34

This and Love Actually are 2 of my favourites! I don't really like Jack Black as a romantic lead either though, although feel like Kate's story is more to do with the elderly man than Jack's character.
I like Jude Law in this Smile
Also that cottage is really cute

GreenTeacup · 13/12/2018 13:22

The cottage was literally made out of plastic in a field and dismantled after. The interior was filmed in studios.

Some great pictures here is anyone is interested
