I've just watched The Holiday and now my toes need to be surgically unclenched

Worst film ever? Long, boring, weird, choppy editing, atrocious script, blatant Bridget Jones wannabe, and Jude fucking Law.

I've just realised I hadn't heard his voice before. Its the most unsexy voice this side of Jacob Rees Mogg.

Bizarre exercise montage in a pool.

World famous script writer with no friends until KW lovelies him.

When Diaz danced to the Killers I wanted to punch myself. I muted it and held on.

My sister in law watches this shite every year! I'm speechless. I don't want to see Jack Black kissing anybody, ever again. In fact I don't want to kiss anybody, ever again.

NO KISSING.

It's total tripe but I'd pick it over Love Actually any day of the week!

Whenever I've seen Keira Knightley being interviewed, she comes across very well, but in that film, when she's shrieking about banoffee pie, she's UNBEARABLE. IMO the only two acceptable scenes are Hugh Grant's dancing and Emma Thompson's dignified crying sesh.

KhaleesiTheDeadWalker · 12/12/2018 13:45

I love The Holiday! It's totally cheesy but it's great!

Limpshade · 12/12/2018 13:45

I do clench a little whenever Cameron Diaz says the word "Graeme" Grin

MayFayner · 12/12/2018 13:58

Yes it’s awful, but it’s also great.

I don’t think you can put Love Actually in the same bracket as the Holiday, though. Come on! The Holiday is a bit of froth but Love Actually has all the different characters and bits (can you tell I don’t speak film? Blush ) and it has that Rowan Atkinson part ❤️❤️❤️

Love Acrually
I’m getting this put on a t-shirt for a certain accountant I know 😂

BlancheM · 12/12/2018 14:04

Hehe I love it when someone posts exactly how I feel about this film. Been meaning to go to the gym but cba? Keep forgetting to do your squats? Then simply watch The Holiday and feel the buttock clenching burn for days afterwards

Sweetpotatoaddict · 12/12/2018 14:23

Watched it for the first time last night, thought it was awful. Was tempted to give up and go to bed, I should have nothing in the ending was remotely surprising.
Love actually tonight, now that’s a whole other story! I love it.

MorrisZapp · 12/12/2018 14:25

Lol @Jude Law vomit hat and buttock clench squat replacement.

Look, I can slag off Love Actually for days. But at least it contains acting, and even some writing.

Whoever decided a British man called Graham should feature in a film aimed at Americans needs to be fired. From a cannon.

Never mention Jack Black to me again.

We house swap alot including to LA. Sadly it has never (so far) included meeting Jude Law or friendly old film directors. The most you get from the swappees is a nice casserole in the fridge (or burritos and brownies from the LA family)

Doyoumind · 12/12/2018 14:36

I hate romcoms. I really refuse to watch them. I've never sat through more than a few minutes of Love Actually. But... I came across The Holiday once on TV and although it bears no resemblance whatsoever to real life there is something about it that made me sit through it. It is certainly bearable and not quite as easy to hate as many other films imho.

Rubytinsleslippers · 12/12/2018 14:37

Always wondered how Cameron Diaz's house with media / cinema room etc is one bedroom as her ex is sleeping on the couch...why not go into one of the spare bedrooms it must have???

How can you say it's bearable? It isn't. Jude Law proclaiming that he has a cow in the garden? You must have been making a cuppa at that point.

I love the Holiday and Jude Law is well hot in it, I know it's crap but I love everything about it except the fake party at the end Xmas Smile

I love this film. It's gooey christmas deliciousness!

ScrambledSmegs · 12/12/2018 14:43

It's utter rubbish, but easy enough to watch. Apart from Jack Black, who should be permanently followed around by someone ready to smash his head between two cymbals if he ever contemplates being in a rom-com again.

But then I don't have high expectations of Christmas films/shows. Ever since the Box of Delights ended with the most massive cop-out ever, I've resigned myself to disappointment. (Except for the Hogfather. Wish I still had Sky).

AGHHHH · 12/12/2018 14:44

I enjoyed it.

MorningsEleven · 12/12/2018 14:45

The Holiday is shit, Love Actually is double shit apart from Emma T and Snape who should both be shot for agreeing to appear in it.

I really like the Nativity films though. I am very ashamed.

jessstan2 · 12/12/2018 14:46

Never heard of it. Should I google or not bother?

Merrychristmasyoufilthyanimals · 12/12/2018 14:47

there is one thin that pisses me off in love actually

Emma Thompson saying to her brother who's wife just died "no one's going to shag you if you keep crying all the time" his. wife. has. just .died

MorrisZapp · 12/12/2018 14:47

Christmas Chronicles was ace!!

(apart from the oh so clever cameo at the end, barf)

OP posts:
ScrambledSmegs · 12/12/2018 14:48

Merrychristmas was Liam Neeson her brother? I thought he was meant to be her friend? Hugh Grant was the brother, surely?

Figgygal · 12/12/2018 14:49

Oh God yes I remember taking DH to the cinema to see it and I was so excited but I actually apologised for putting him through it when we left it was utter tripe and I have refused to watch it ever since

MorrisZapp · 12/12/2018 14:52

Did Rufus Sewell ring his pal Hugh Grant do you think, for pointers in how to phone in a performance as a tight shirted, rogueishly attractive editor shagging his seven and a half out of ten but adorably funny underling near Christmas?

ooh, this is my favourite genuinely awful film. I am magnetically drawn to it for reasons I will never understand. The plot is preposterous, the script cringeworthy, the acting universally terrible. I have seen it half a dozen times and would happily/unhappily watch again while hating myself a little bit.
