The DS has asked for a non-existent present thread

I remember being on one last year!

Once again DC has asked for a non-existent toy. Last year Santa came through. But this year doesn't have much time to sort it out i.e. make it. Who else is in the same boat and what have they asked for? Mine has been very specific. He wants a Brio funicular set. They don't exist.

would this lift do?

DD, when small, always cut pictures out of magazines of what she wanted. Never included any clues as to where things came from or what they cost. My greatest triumph was tracking down a Liberty peacock feather patterned mini suitcase from a tiny scrap of paper.

PippaParty · 06/12/2018 21:10

Yep, me too with the broomstick, but way after Halloween ( we had to buy a willow fence partition, cut it up and bind it back together into a broom). All well and good...till it was delivered and didn't fly!

And a crystal ball...just what was she expecting to see in it? Bought a cheap coloured light with a glass globe; it played music that sounded like it was from a really poor porn movie! Great pressie for a six year old!

@FrostyMoanyWind I think his request is a test to see if FC is real tbh...

Windyone · 06/12/2018 21:15

Hover board - every year, he's 14 now 😀

FrostyMoanyWind · 06/12/2018 21:18

my niece asked for a kitchen not a toy one but one where you can really cook and it has real water in sink just smaller so the right height for her

HelenaJustina · 06/12/2018 22:00

@FrostyMoanyWind if you manage to create a funicular, please please post a picture! Wishing you lots of luck!

Wolfcub · 06/12/2018 22:05

It quite a funicular but pretty cool www.amazon.co.uk/Kraul-Big-Cable-Car-Kit/dp/B000NWKNKW?tag=mumsnetforum-21

JuniperBeer · 06/12/2018 22:06

There’s a playmobil funicular set.... can he compromise?!?

PylonsPylonsPylons · 06/12/2018 22:06

Ds wants an electricity pylon.

FrostyMoanyWind · 06/12/2018 22:10

I don't think there is Juniper, there's a playmobil cable car, (which he already has) bur it's not the same thing as a funicular.

My eldest ds whos 14 now when he was 5 asked santa for the 'present' of being santa for the day with sleigh, reindeer, elf and a big sack of presents to put under peoples trees.

FrostyMoanyWind · 06/12/2018 22:12

Pylons have you tried a train modelling shop or does he want a real one?

When Dd was little the only thing she wanted was a thing where you drew & the drawing lit up and then moved - she described this toy perfectly.
I thought she’d seen it on the telly & spent hours looking for it in every toy shop & on every website.
I kept asking Dd about it & she always gave the same precise description.
Finally beaten I sat down with Dd to explain that Santa was having trouble with the toy was she sure it was real - yes definitely real, where have you seen it Dd? Her reply in my head

My dad once made a funicular for the wooden train set. He got two of the bits that lead up to a bridge and long straight bits and attached them to a wooden triangle sort of thing to make a hill with 2 tracks on it. Does that make any sense? Then he got 2 trains, took the wheels off the bottom, sawed them into a triangle shape and reattached the wheels so it fitted up the hill. Have I explained that at all? Then tied the trains together so as one went up the other went down. I have no idea how difficult it was, he's quite handy so it probably didnt take him long. We gave all our train track away to a charity sale last year, what a shame. I would have loved to have given it to someone who cared about it. I wish we had a photo. I can ask my dad about it if you want to try and make one.

Andro · 06/12/2018 22:17

DD has asked for some common sense, since all hers seemed to vanish as soon as puberty arrived.

(she knows santa doesn't exist...and don't I wish that common sense came in a bottle/bar/capsule)

PylonsPylonsPylons · 06/12/2018 22:18

He really wants a real one Smilebut I have hot him some models

FrostyMoanyWind · 06/12/2018 22:21

Excellent to know it would work Knit. That's what I'm thinking of doing. Except i was planning to fix a magnet to the cable so any of his trains could go up.

Why did he have to saw the trains into a triangle? Physics is not my strong point!

@FrostyMoanyWind thank you, but he wants a lift that he can go inside...

Iwantedtrianglesnotsquares · 06/12/2018 22:24

Trying to reply to the broomstick request. Depending on where you are based, amberley chalk pits have a fabulous man who makes broomsticks (in Sussex). He’s not there all the time, so best ring first. Andrew someone I think.

KipperTheFrog · 06/12/2018 22:27

Dd wants a unicorn. Not a toy one (She has several) but a real live unicorn.
