Crumpets, muffins and waffles.

Which do you like the most and what do you have them with ? My tastes are simple so plain buttered (must be Lurpak) is fine with me for any of them. However, blue Stilton or Shropshire cheese is excellent on buttered muffins with a glass of white wine.

Quality is important. I don't know who makes good waffles but Kingsmill muffins and Co-op 'posh' (sourdough ?) crumpets are my favourites.

Yup Coop soughdough crumpets here 'fed' with salted butter and a good smear of marmite!

Grumpbum123 · 06/12/2018 14:17

Sainsbury’s black pepper and cheese muffins with proper butter and Stilton

firstbrightday · 06/12/2018 14:17

Nothing can beat warburtons crumpets. With butter and dipped into homemade soup!

Warbutons crumpets with butter and jam or with Philadelphia chive.
Muffins instead of bread for a bacon sandwich

Ollivander84 · 06/12/2018 14:29

Warburtons crumpets really well toasted with
Butter
Butter and PB
Butter and jam
Butter and strong cheese spread

Muffins - cinnamon and raisin ones with butter and cream cheese

IndigoSpritz · 06/12/2018 14:29

Warburton's crumpets also good. I've also used toasted muffins for burgers instead of bread rolls. They don't go soggy.

I've never been a fan of toasted currant teacakes but I think Costa still does them.

Always muffins. I make a mean fakeaway egg McMuffin and eggs benedict.

Heuschrecke · 06/12/2018 15:32

Warburton's crumpets (1) and have you had their giant ones?! Brilliant.

Muffins (2)

Waffles (3)

Have you seen this this cute little munchkin talking about waffles ? She's so sad, but quite logical too!

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 06/12/2018 15:35

I like them all for different reasons!

I think crumpets just edge in front. They need to be absolutely dripping in proper butter though.

ikltownofboothlehem · 06/12/2018 15:35

Warburtons crumpets with butter or cheese spread. DS prefers his with butter and honey.

Muffins only with eggs Benedict.

Not keen on waffles. Potato cakes on the other hand.....mmmm.

IndigoSpritz · 06/12/2018 15:37

Canny wee actress. I hope she was acting anyway !

I see the Warburton's giant crumpets every time I go shopping but I've yet to indulge.

Is it true that some people like to toast stale fruit cake and serve it buttered ?

Love muffins and crumpets but waffles are meh... dripping with melted butter they are a real winter food.

Lwmommy · 06/12/2018 15:38

Seconding sainsburys cheddar and black pepper muffins. Delicious with just butter, amazing with scrambled eggs (cheese, bacon lardons and spring onions in the eggs).

madmum5811 · 06/12/2018 15:39

should be an honorary mention for scotch pancakes, so easy to make and the kids adore them.

AdaColeman · 06/12/2018 15:40

Sainsburys Taste the Difference crumpets are the very best, eaten with plenty of salted butter.

I tend to have waffles more as a pudding with fruit and cream or ice cream. Very occasionally I have them for breakfast with maple syrup.
My Dad used to make the best waffles in the world!

Figgygal · 06/12/2018 15:42

I have some Morrisons Christmas tree crumpets for breakfast this week they're nice but M&S super grain muffins are the best

BearSoFair · 06/12/2018 15:47

Not a fan of waffles but Warburton's crumpets with marmite are my go to breakfast! Also like Sainsburys cheese and black pepper muffins.

IndigoSpritz · 06/12/2018 15:55

Looks like waffles aren't so popular then. I expect the USA is a stronger market for them. Potato cakes and Scotch pancakes I do like. And soda farls. Butter is a must with all of them.

Oh I don't like the giant crumpets. Too much fluffy and not enough crispness per bite.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 06/12/2018 16:28

Crumpets with marmite and dairlylea or well toasted with lashings of salted butter. Mmmm

Juanbablo · 06/12/2018 16:29

I love waffles with strawberries, raspberries and maple syrup. Crumpets with butter and marmite. Muffins with cream cheese and black pepper.

tobee · 06/12/2018 16:36

All three, equal first.

Waffles (if shop bought) lightly toasted. Homemade with melted salty butter

Crumpets with baked beans and bacon

Muffins with fried egg and ham - egg McMuffin homestyley

Wink
tobee · 06/12/2018 16:37

Agree about giant crumpets being disappointing Sad

FissionChips · 06/12/2018 16:40

Toasted waffles smell like wet dog.

Graphista · 06/12/2018 16:53

Ooh that's tough.

Waffles I like best but not at home, somehow they're not the same.

Followed by crumpets which are easy to do well at home. Toasted, plenty of butter job done!

Yummy with marmite, Jam or honey too.

Muffins - nah not that keen.

"should be an honorary mention for scotch pancakes, so easy to make and the kids adore them." Oh yes! Love these!
