Went to see years and years recently and my god were they amazing, literally the best I’ve ever heard live. Blue had to be the worst for me...
Just wanted to know peoples Experiences....

NakedAvenger I was at that Radiohead gig too and yes, it was shite! It was the most obtuse, downbeat setlist possible (I think they even did Climbing Up the Walls as an encore FFS), made worse by the news they did a banging, “greatest hits” set in Manchester a few nights later.

Doves were so boring I actually fell asleep.

Best were probably the Flaming Lips at the Astoria in 2002. It before before every band and his dog copied the giant balloons and confetti cannon thing, and I’d never seen anything like it. My face hurt from grinning by the end of the gig.

Also British Sea Power at Truck festival in 2003. They were intense and bonkers and the singer and guitarist scaled the lighting rig and sang and played while hanging off it, high above the stage.

Ahhh, my youth!

blueangel1 · 08/12/2018 00:06

Best: lots, but seeing Queen with Freddie was epic. Also Muse at the O2, Bjork in Manchester years ago, and Madness for being a bloody good LAUGH. Queen and Adam Lambert - amazing and I've seen them several times, once at the barrier in Hamburg and I got given one of Brian May's sixpences by a crew member afterwards.

Worst, Hawkwind many years ago, totally boring, and The Cribbs at the Isle of Wight festival a couple of years ago. Christ, they were awful.

snop · 08/12/2018 00:08

Lionel Ritchie was the best
Leona Lewis was the worst good voice but so boring

NaToth · 08/12/2018 00:16

Best - Bob Marley and the Wailers in Cardiff 1976.

Worst - sadly, it was probably Rod Stewart in 2007. Much as I love him he was well, past his best.

TheLastQueenOfPop · 08/12/2018 07:41

Worst - Duffy, a gig so bad I remember nothing about it and am only reminded I went by the ticket stub and Facebook rant I subsequently wrote
Elton John. Tedious. Such a disappointment

Best - Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott - I could do a top ten of their gigs (and the beautiful south and Paul solo) on their own
Prince - wasn't a fan but absolutely mesmerised
The Script - so much fun
Killers at Wembley great support acts too
The Gaslight Anthem at Manchester Academy
Pearl Jam - a masterclass

DammitOedipus · 08/12/2018 18:32

Great Big Sea was fantastic. So were Aerosmith, Rod Stewart and Jann Arden. Barenaked Ladies always put on a great show.

Hedley weren't great. Kodaline sucked.

shadypines · 08/12/2018 18:39

Best -Supertramp
Worst - Gary Glitter

Ladylimpet · 08/12/2018 18:45

Best is without a doubt, Kasabian. And Jamie t, a close second.
Not really been to a bad one.

LMW1990 · 08/12/2018 18:48

Best: Bryan Adams. Absolutely flawless

Worst: Enter Shakari. Someone threw a bottle of wee at the lead singer

DragonMamma · 08/12/2018 18:49

Best - Take That at their original reunion tour and The Prodigy.

Worst - Primal Scream - Bobby was off his face and was just a slurring mess, which culminated in him screaming abuse at the crowd when the applause was unenthusiastic

Lolimax · 08/12/2018 18:52

Best - Queen ‘It’s a Kind of Magic’ Tour, Wembley.
Worst - recently Ed Sheeran. I was bored shitless. And The Police. Loved them forever but absolutely no atmosphere.

Tara336 · 08/12/2018 19:02

@Elderflower14 I was at R.E.M. too it was brilliant although I rember the crowd getting nervous when we heard sirens and saw smoke (was just a fire somewhere)

Worst was Kasabian at 02 they just didn’t have the presence for such a big venue, Michael Jackson at Wembley was like watching a video we left

Best Stones, Foo Fighters, Green Day and Kaiser Chiefs

TwoGinScentedTears · 08/12/2018 19:03

Surprised that Ed Sheeran hasn't been mentioned, inknow he's considered middle of the road naff, but by god he puts in a show and a half especially considering it's just him, his guitar and loop pedal. Really talented young man!

I've been to hundreds of gigs and concerts, were just taking the DC to them now they are old enough (hence Ed Sheeran)

But I saw Amy Winehouse at a secret gig (I can't remember when, maybe 2007?) and she was frickin amazing. It was totally electric.

Worst? Van Morrison. He just didn't want to be there at all and has his back to the audience for a large part of the show. Really disappointed because I had grown up with Van The Man and made a special trip to brighton for it.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 08/12/2018 19:08

Best: Stone Roses, Meatloaf (30 years ago), Take That (Circus tour), Prince
Worst: Hothouse Flowers - I loved this band to bits in the 90s. They did a massive tour and we saw them at the beginning of it, which was magic. Then we saw them again at the end and it was terrible. They phoned it in.

Primal Scream supported Stone Roses above and I'd actually got tickets for PS rather than the Roses. They seemed really pissed off to be a supporting act and basically stood there for the requisite amount of time playing new songs and album tracks until they'd fulfilled their contract. Disappointing.

Also Red Hot Chilli Peppers at Murrayfield, but I think that was a venue thing and actually I've never been back there.

snowone · 08/12/2018 19:25

Best - Damien Rice at a really small venue in Liverpool, Coldplay, Adele was pretty amazing too, oh and a band called The Civil Wars which we hadn't actually gone to see but were brill!!

Worst - is a toss up between Bon Jovi or Rihanna. Both pretty dreadful!

Lalotai47 · 08/12/2018 19:32

Best: Bon Jovi in 1996. I was a huge fan and got to the front. They gave it their all and did several encores.

Also saw Queen with Adam Lambert in Glasgow and they were wonderful.

Take That Circus tour in Manchester was spectacular.

Metallica have been great both times but especially good with a non rock audience at Live Earth.

Steel Panther were a raucous and talented pleasant surprise.

Have also seen some amazing folk artists at festivals such as Perkelt and Damh the Bard.

Worst: Genesis at Live Earth. Tired and lacklustre. Ditto Duran Duran. And Evan Dando of the Lemonheads seemed off his head at Sheffield Uni in the late 90's.

peoplearepeople · 08/12/2018 19:53

Best -
Parkway Drive
While she sleeps
Highly suspect
Stone Sour
Bullet for my valentine
Dropkick murphy's
The fever 333
Papa Roach
Iron Maiden
Mammal
Nickelback (really surprised at this one!)

Worst -
Bring me the Horizon- could barely hear vocals
Shinedown. - just talks way too much
The Pretty Reckless
Saliva- just sounded an absolute mess. We were so disappointed.

I'm not a fan of huge venues and usually try and catch bands at much smaller gigs. We still try and see someone every couple of months though. I have got to say however that in the last few years people using their phones to film rubbish footage of pretty much the whole concert has really started the ruin the atmosphere (and often view) you used to get. I wish people would just live in the moment and enjoy the music. Smile

MorticiaAddamsIsMyStyleGuru · 08/12/2018 20:28

Both in the same week. Hard to believe I know, but it's true.

Best
Mumford and Sons on 20.11.18. They were unbelievable. I've never felt more involved in a concert before and I've seen some fabulous artists. They were all so engaged with the audience. It was so incredibly moving. I feel emotional just thinking about it and them. I'll be forever grateful to have had that experience. They are incredible artists and they play so well. They played two of there final songs with nothing but Marcus on the guitar. The hairs on the back of my neck stand up just thinking about it.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, Mumford and Sons ❤️

Worst
Lauren Hill 23.11.18. She came on after 10pm. An hour later than planned. I find that shit so incredibly disrespectful. We left 55 minutes later. She couldn't sing. Micro managed her whole band and singers. Concentrate on your own shit Miss Hill. 😡
The sound was appalling. I had sore ears for two days afterwards.

Utter utter shite.

Both in the same week in the same venue. The Agony and Ecstasy describes them both perfectly.

MorticiaAddamsIsMyStyleGuru · 08/12/2018 20:35

I also want to add Simple Minds this year at The Barrowlands, in Glasgow. A dream come true for me.

Duran Duran (my band from aged 11) on a glorious summers day in a winery in Western Australia. Unforgettable. ❤️

And Prince during the Piano and Microphone tour , two months before he died. RIP beautiful talented One 💜

StarringRole · 08/12/2018 21:41

Muse-different venues/festivals
Nothing but thieves-rock city
Both absolutely brilliant.
Pete Doherty-2009-I loves him but he couldn’t remember the words, could hardly string a sentence together, let alone sing it. It was disappointing and most people seemed to be disappointed, not just me.

DoveSecret · 08/12/2018 22:44

Ive never been to a big concert. Cant justify paying over the odds for groups. I went yrs ago to a gig where Girls Aloud were fresh and couldn’t see a thing. It was shit.

Went to a local gig last month with the girls and sang and danced for hours. Best £20 spent in a long time.

We have a great selection if singers and groups in Wales do i rather support locals.

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 08/12/2018 22:49

Best was Pink at Alton Towers, great live voice, great show and great weather.

Joint worst were Whitesnake and Bon Jovi, they're both past their best and kept holding the mic out to the crowd on the higher notes, I think we sang more than they did.

CherryPavlova · 08/12/2018 23:01

Best were

  • Mozart in Salzburg, in a room where Mozart had actually played.
  • Live Aid
  • Culture Club were huge fun.
  • more recently VIP floor and after party at Genting Arena with Years and Years, Ellie Golding, Ollie Mars, The Vamps, Tiny Temper, Ed Sheeran McBusted and a few others.
  • my daughter singing Humperdincks Hansel and Gretal with London Philharmonic at Royal Festival Hall.
  • A private concert by Yehudi Menuhin to a very sick young man. Tear jerking.
  • a Royal Marines Chamber Orchestra whilst eating supper in Nelson’s cabin on Victory.

Worst? I wouldn’t stay and listen to anything awful.

LittleMachine · 08/12/2018 23:04

Best - The Killers in a tiny venue in Liverpool, only about 50 people there, before they were big, it was electric.
Every time I’ve seen James except...

Worst - …at the Hope and Glory festival in Liverpool last year. It was an absolute shambles, they tried to put on a festival in an area of about 3 square metres. Half the acts didn’t come on stage as they were running so late and Tim Booth was pissed off so he messed around on stage and didn’t sing properly.

DeadButDelicious · 08/12/2018 23:12

Best would have to be when I saw Devin Townsend's acoustic set in Manchester Cathedral. Such a good vibe that night.

Worst would have to be Satyricon who were the support act for Pantera (who were awesome).
