Went to see years and years recently and my god were they amazing, literally the best I’ve ever heard live. Blue had to be the worst for me...
Just wanted to know peoples Experiences....

Best Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds Bournemouth 2017.

Worst, Kings of Leon, just dull.

thesunwillout · 07/12/2018 21:51

Spirited!! Freaky cross post

ohhelpohnoitsa · 07/12/2018 21:56

Best was Simply Red. I cant say I am a fan, indifferent really, but Hucknall was amazing at engaging the audience. I think the worst was Whitney Houston. She was technically great but a diva - came on with huge basketball-player-sized guards and totally did NOT engage...as though we should be grateful we could be there to see her. This was 1988 ish so she was fairly fresh on the scene.
Weller is always good and Brian Ferry. Saw King a few times supporting 80s bands and they were great. Agree that Oasis and Ocean Colour Scene were arrogant - saw both in one gig. Lucky me. Oh and Chaka Khan had to go off when she lost her voice.

SpiritedFarAway · 07/12/2018 21:57

Oh that was freaky! I read the whole thread first to see if anyone had said nick cave already 😄

He was great wasn't he, the whole band was brilliant but he was something else, I felt so lucky I got to see them.

FoxInForrest · 07/12/2018 21:59

Best was Rolling Stones. I'm so grateful that I was able to see them live. My dad took me a decade or so ago.

Worst was an 80s band that was the shit at the time but I only recognised a couple of songs (can't remember who they are now) and the lead singer clearly thought he was gods gift (in reality it looked like he was coked up. I cringed most of the way through and thankfully my dad (again!) who was a big fan agreed to leave early.

WrenNatsworthy · 07/12/2018 21:59

Oh I saw Nick Cave at Glastonbury, yes he (and the band) are just incredible.

StuffYouAllInTheCrust · 07/12/2018 21:59

Can’t believe no one has mentioned Sam Smith! I’ve never heard anyone sing like that in real life, absolutely amazing.

Worst has to be Happy Mondays, well after their heyday. Shaun Ryder appeared to be so off his face he was singing facing the back of the stage Grin

thesunwillout · 07/12/2018 22:00

I did the same!
Where did you see him, we were at the front, dd got on stage, got a wonderful embrace at the end.
I was utterly mesmerized, such a heartfelt performance, the fans were wonderful.

papayya · 07/12/2018 22:08

Best: Lady GaGa, Ed Sheeran

Worst: Rihanna who didn't even appear arsed to lip sync properly

notyummy · 07/12/2018 22:11

Best - toss up between Frank Turner, Bruce Springsteen and the prodigy.

Worse- Van morrison in about 1991. He didn’t give a shit.

notyummy · 07/12/2018 22:17

Seems to be a theme - avoid oasis!

Sadik · 07/12/2018 22:24

Ruling out unknown bands, which are always a lottery, I'd pick one gig as worst / best combined from a music POV. New Model Army in Cambridge late 1991, I think they all had the flu, they were evidently making effort but seriously not on good form. Levellers were playing support, hadn't seen/ heard of them before but they were amazing.

Later Levellers gig at Strawberry Fair free festival in Cambridge stands in my mind as one of the most memorable - the marquee was absolutely packed, people were climbing the support poles and the whole thing started to fall down. I've run into a lot of people who were in that tent over the years in different parts of the world!

Sadik · 07/12/2018 22:26

Thinking about it, was Cambridge autumn 1990, not 1991. Long time ago!

SpiritedFarAway · 07/12/2018 22:32

@thesunwillout Nottingham arena, which is a massive venue so I was a bit worried about the sound and it being impersonal but didn't need to worry about either of those things at all.

Good for your dd! I was near the front but didn't want to get on stage (too self conscious) but he came in the crowd right near us, it was fab.

HeronLanyon · 07/12/2018 22:41

Worst - Martha wainwright ‘14. queen Elizabeth Hakk. She dragged her young son onto stage repeatedly for no reason and took delight in him - he was clearly uncomfortable/frightened and did not want to be there. She was laughing at him completely unaware it was so awful. Felt really abusive to be there. I left. Have disliked her since.

Best 1 Ella & Count Basie & Oscar Peterson ‘82 Indescribable.
Best. 2 Liza Minnelli ‘14 (?) London. In great voice. Absolute pure exhilerating star talent.

LucilleBluth · 07/12/2018 22:50

I'm only on the first page. I have been to more gigs/concerts than I can remember.

Best, Green Day, Jack White, Foo Fighters, Rufus Wainwright.

Worst, Bob Dylan, Paul Weller. So boring and worthy and I love them both. Liam Gallagher this year...awful, no interaction. Phoning it in.

Nakedavenger74 · 07/12/2018 23:11

Worst: £120 to stand in a drizzly Victoria Park watching Radiohead do a selection of their most dreary and unknown album tracks.
I love Radiohead but this was dreadful.

Mulberry72 · 07/12/2018 23:20

Best - Queen at Maine Road in 1985, I went with my Dad. Freddie Mercury was amazing.
Worst - I took DS to see Rihanna (his choice), she was awful, lip synched, hardly interacted with the audience, absolutely terrible.

IKnowWhere · 07/12/2018 23:33

Best - Fleet Foxes 2008. Absolutely magic.
Don't have a worst - they've all been great nights out.

RedDwarves · 07/12/2018 23:39

I've not been to a bad one. In order of best to least best:

  1. The Rolling Stones
  2. Guns N' Roses
  3. Adele
  4. Fleetwood Mac
  5. The Church
  6. Billy Idol
  7. Pink
  8. Crowded House

The only comments I would make are that Fleetwood Mac took a couple of songs to warm up, that I'm not a fan of Crowded House in general so wouldn't see them again, and that Cheap Trick, who opened for Billy Idol, are effing abysmal.

RedDwarves · 07/12/2018 23:40

Glad to see so many others list the Stones among their best. Although, after 50+ years of non-stop touring, I would think they should have it down pat. Grin

Vinotinto78 · 07/12/2018 23:45

The worst:
Red Hot Chili Peppers
R.E.M.

The best:
PJ Harvey at Glastonbury ‘95
GnR ‘92
The Darkness (always)
Metallica (expensive but worth it)

kittenfun · 07/12/2018 23:47

Best for me michael Jackson and George Michael

Worst travis

ImNotShpanishImEgyptshun · 07/12/2018 23:53

Similar to many others, best is Green Day in an arena. Absolutely incredible. Also The Pogues in a fairly small venue about 10 years ago; such a brilliant time. And Pulp, in an arena, about two days after the Michael Jackson incentive 😁

Worst: Radiohead in an arena. I was a massive fan but they are just so dull live, you may as well stay home and listen to the album in your bedroom.

YolandiFuckinVisser · 08/12/2018 00:01

Best: Wedding Present, Bizarro tour (Leeds Poly 1989ish)
Worst: Stone Roses, Spike Island
