Mid thirties and it’s passed me by. My family wouldn’t watch it so I never have.

I'm 45 and have never watched it. I have no desire to watch it either

Sparrowlegs248 · 04/12/2018 20:50

41 and not seen it. I've not seen most things though !

shutlingsloe · 04/12/2018 20:50

I'm 45, never seen it, never intend to.

Good grief. I thought you meant the kings speech. The film. I haven't seen that but have seen the queens speech!

Cynara · 04/12/2018 20:54

Also never seen it, and am sniggering at your shock on seeing the mid thirties truth in black and white. I'm in the same boat as you there, and I must admit it does look pretty stark written down!

Magmatic80 · 04/12/2018 20:56

Me neither! No telly growing up so it wasn’t tradition, never really got round to remembering as an adult.

halfwitpicker · 04/12/2018 20:59

Not my bag, baby

Greensleeves · 04/12/2018 20:59

God no, my family would rather watch the Human Centipede than the Queen's speech.

Kokapetl · 04/12/2018 21:02

Mid thirties here too and also never seen it. My family are against the monarchy generally and I just wandered off and did something more interesting like washing up or watching paint dry when it was on at PIL's house.

hugoagogo · 04/12/2018 21:03

nope, I've never watched it either. Why would you?

ForalltheSaints · 04/12/2018 21:03

I have only ever missed it once in my life, and that was the only Christmas I spent abroad. You can play an imaginary game of 'Queen's Speech Bingo" (how long before the Commonwealth is mentioned, which Royals will be featured etc etc).

Nope. Muppets' Christmas Carol in the Nut household.

borntobequiet · 04/12/2018 21:07

I think you mean the Queen’s Christmas Message. The Queen’s Speech is at the State Opening of Parliament.
Watching both is probably both patriotic and informative.

RefuseTheLies · 04/12/2018 21:09

Hadn’t seen it until I got married a few years ago and mil (in her mid-80s) insisted on it the first time I spent Christmas Day with DH and his family.

Chinks123 · 04/12/2018 21:12

I’ve always been made to watch it, god forbid anyone spoke during it, although we never had to stand Grin I think it becomes a bit of a family tradition because now I’m the one shushing everybody.

CocoDeMoll · 04/12/2018 21:12

@greensleeves that’s made me proper laugh 😂😂😂

OP posts:
BalloonSlayer · 04/12/2018 21:29

Never watched it for years when I was young, now it's COMPULSORY on Christmas day and I must confess it makes me rather tearful.

There is a degree of growing up in the 70s and Frank Spencer saying "Oooos gonna see de Queen on Christmas Day den? ," about it I have to say!

user1471453601 · 04/12/2018 21:32

Nearly 70, never seen it, never intend to.

Athena51 · 04/12/2018 21:54

God no. Anti-royalist, raised by anti-royalists. I wouldn't insult my parent's memories like that Smile

IndigoSpritz · 04/12/2018 21:56

Never. I'm 47. My eldest brother has been involved in its production twice. That's as close as I get.

Elllicam · 04/12/2018 21:58

I’m 37 and have never seen it either. Also never watched more than a minute or so of a royal wedding. Just not my thing.

Knittink · 04/12/2018 21:58

Never seen it either. I'm 47.
