Working from home watching tv

What the hell does she see in that Berger, I mean she's no picnic but he's awful. I've known men just like him.

Yes he's a needy Whiney, self-indulgent twerp.
But I do want to reach through the screen and smack her when she's banging on about the bloody scrunchy in his book lol

sonlypuppyfat · 27/11/2018 14:09

I only think of him as the scrunchy man

SparkyBlue · 27/11/2018 14:09

I have just started watching SATC again and it really hasn't aged well at all. I am just not enjoying it and I am so disappointed.

The later episodes are better I think. It's just so unrealistic. She's prancing around in Prada. From series 1-6 she's now rich apparently.

Maybe Berger is the female Carrie.

Definitely the worst boyfriend.

Aiden wasn’t the saint a lot of people make out he was. He was just ‘nicely’ controlling, hassling her to get married and being PA about her not liking the house in the middle of the woods. Making her walk his shitting dog while he flirted with his bar co-worker...

I did want to club her when she screeched at a squirrel, invited a drunk Big to crash their weekend and cheated on him but we were supposed to feel awful for her as she felt so torn about it...

Carrie is a piece of work but some of her choices in men left a lot to be desired!

MaryofMislethwaiteManor · 27/11/2018 14:41

I also got annoyed at her mooching around Paris being all melancholy in cafes because the Russian couldn’t entertain her for a couple of weeks...he was trying to put on a bloody gallery art installation FFS.

Lottapianos · 27/11/2018 14:43

'Aiden wasn’t the saint a lot of people make out he was'

Very true. All of her blokes were awful, but I agree that Berger was particularly baffling. Smug, tedious, unfunny, insecure. Just a complete plum

MaryofMislethwaiteManor · 27/11/2018 14:45

Berger was definitely the most obviously awful choice of bloke!

MaiaRindell · 27/11/2018 14:46

The only SATC men worth bothering with are Steve, Smith and Harry.

Snipples · 27/11/2018 14:51

God yes. Hated Berger with a passion. But Carrie as a character is vile. Totally self absorbed. Banging on about break-ups on her best friends wedding etc. Just a total PITA. I liked Miranda the best. Even though she was a bit underrated in the beginning.

ComtesseDeSpair · 27/11/2018 14:52

I’m always in two minds about SATC. Was it meant to be aspirational? Are we meant to want the lives that Carrie and her friends have? The fashion, high flying jobs and endless cocktail parties and brunches suggest so. But really it’s also basically about being disappointed in men and not knowing what you’re doing with your life once you get through the front door and it’s just you and your thoughts. So, was it more meant to be an exploration of whether, rather than being unhappy because “having it all” isn’t the life you expected, younger women should be more open minded about an enjoyable adult life not looking exactly as their childhood self might have expected it to and subverting traditional mores?

This doesn’t give any insight into Berger, I know. But we’ve all had one, haven’t we, the man you should have dumped at least several months before you actually did.

Fabpinky · 27/11/2018 15:01

MaiaRindell- I love Steve but he did cheat!

WhoisyourDaddyandwhatdoeshedo · 27/11/2018 15:05

carrie being able to afford all those clothes, meals out, cocktails.. huga apartment.....and she just wrote a dingy column in the NYTimes every week......

WhoisyourDaddyandwhatdoeshedo · 27/11/2018 15:05

*huge apartment

tryinganewname · 27/11/2018 15:10

Aiden was the absolute worst though surely?! Made my skin crawl.

That being said, Carrie is probably one of the most hated main characters ever - she's just so.. whiny and entitled. I love Samantha and Charlotte.

But Mr Big was the absolute dreamboat. As someone else has said, too good for Carrie.

Fleabag123 · 27/11/2018 15:13

SATC really hasn’t aged well has it. I’ve been rewatching recently and I’m marvelling that I used to be so addicted to it.
Carrie is such a selfish twat for the vast majority of the show. I hated the fact that Big suddenly came to his senses and “rescued” her at the end of s6 rheb became the model boyfriend. Well, until he left her at the altar - and yet she still went back for more!

MaiaRindell · 27/11/2018 15:14

@Fabpinky True.

PushItRealGood · 27/11/2018 15:19

I agree but I think Berger was a great example of the type of guy most of us have been with at least once. The beginning is amazing, great banter, passion, you think you may have met the one, etc. Then it all just heads south but you flog a dead horse for a long time because you can't quite let go of how right you seemed for one another at the beginning.

DollyWilde · 27/11/2018 15:21

When I watched it as a teenager I really liked him Blush probably because I thought he was the most attractive looks-wise of Carrie's boyfriends. Plus, I was 17 and 17 year old boys tended to be pretty similar - at least the ones I wanted to date were!

15 years later I can recognise Berger for the awful person he is!

Bunnymumma · 27/11/2018 15:26

@MaiaRindell AMEN!

MaiaRindell · 27/11/2018 15:39

Although @Fabpinky SATC should have ended before the shockingly bad films so I will pretend that Steve remained lovely
