What is on your sideboard?

We've just got a sideboard for our living room. It's white and oak and I've put a large mirror on the wall above it. I've got a new lamp on one end and a few candles on the other but it looks a bit empty. What else can we put on it. I was thinking about a big vase or plant or both.

What is on yours?

The TV...We like the height it's at

Ad the cupboard below houses the hi-fi/dvd records.

We are looking for a retro style sideboard for the dining room. It will probably just have some china dishes on there

A pink bakelite phone
An old picture of my mum and dad when they were teenagers
An amber carnival glass bowl

So many ideas... I'd post a picture of mine but I also bought a new lamp today (which is on the sideboard) that I'm not ready to be judged on. It's a bit special but I think I love it. I could hate it in six months. I would have hated it ten years ago. I don't think I could take the judgement it probably would generate

Dresser thing.
Lots of framed photos of family and dogs. Stuffed knitted Schnauzer. Pair of Chinese dogs (ugly things but DP loves them). Urn with ashes of beloved dog. Small wireless speaker. Pile of paperwork. Empty glass bowl.

Alliwantisthisorthat · 24/11/2018 22:16

I have a big lamp in the middle with 2 candle holders in front and 2 matching picture frames 1 at each end.

Tigger001 · 24/11/2018 22:20

With #parrotlamp being said I think we need to see it.....please it will intrigue me until I know

Stubbornmare · 24/11/2018 22:23

A school photo
A clock
2 candles
4 Lego 'creations' that the DC keep building and putting on display. I limit them to 2 'creations' each otherwise they would take over all the surfaces

Mine is a hare lamp - ears above, body below, shade in between. It is a bit strange.

GiantKitten · 24/11/2018 22:47

What's a Yankee Tart Burner?

One of those things where you light a tealight below & melt a small scented wax thing above

hmmwhatatodo · 24/11/2018 22:51

I don’t have a sideboard or a Welsh dresser or even a display cabinet.

Bluebellbike · 24/11/2018 22:57

A bearded dragon named Vera. She is getting on a bit now. Currently looking messy as she is shedding her skin.

TheFairyCaravan · 24/11/2018 22:59

The one in the sitting room has a lamp, a photo of DS2 and his girlfriend at their graduation ball, a set of Russian dolls and a candle in a lantern.

On the dining room one there's a fruit bowl, a vase, a plant and a photo of me and DH at the Summer ball a few years back.

MissKittyCat · 24/11/2018 23:24

Two riding hats, a bag of horse treats, a horse ornament, a framed photo, a weather station and various receipts and other bits of paperwork.

Todamhottoday · 25/11/2018 07:59

Have one in the dining room as well, pair of (shorter) matching lamps either end, square shades, 2 sets of glass candlesticks, different sizes, a mirrored glass display oval which has about 5 different Buddhas with small flat handmade candles, which look lovely with the reflection off the mirror, mmm did not describe that very well!

DoveSecret · 25/11/2018 09:04

A lamp and a plant.

gussiefox · 25/11/2018 11:16

@giantkitten - I need to know more about your hare lamp! Do you have a link? I have two sideboards which are currently sporting a Day of the Dead candlestick, a rhino, a posable man lamp, a glass bird full of acorns, two dolls heads with the tops cut off (dried flowers in one and succulents in the other), a skull paperweight and three empty glass jars marked "POISON".

StrawberryTraveller · 25/11/2018 11:24

5 of various sizes in glass lanterns.

1 aloe vera plant received as a gift last week, but already half chewed by the cats

There's a large picture above the width of the sideboard

IndigoSpritz · 25/11/2018 11:28

Vintage Denby pottery and a few fancy bottles awaiting conversion to lamps (when I finally get round to it).
