What is on your sideboard?

We've just got a sideboard for our living room. It's white and oak and I've put a large mirror on the wall above it. I've got a new lamp on one end and a few candles on the other but it looks a bit empty. What else can we put on it. I was thinking about a big vase or plant or both.

What is on yours?

Don't have one

Harryrotter · 24/11/2018 20:24

A vase of flowers, a ceramic owl, a framed photo of the dc and a lantern with a candle in it (and a hairbrush, a pile of letters, a bank book and a story book)

Stripyhoglets1 · 24/11/2018 20:25

Pair of matching lamps, tall with unusual shaped shades.

2 large oval ornaments and matching small oval candle bought in the far east, thats it, I like it simple

(all the crap is on the kitchen table)

RocketPockets · 24/11/2018 20:31

Alexa, framed photos, thermometer thing with those bobbing drop things inside it (no idea what the proper name for this is it was a gift), candle, a big & little giraffe thingy.

Then some rubbish, letters & keys and some parcel tape and a parcel I haven't opened yet.

Two school photos of my dcs, four photos of our cats that died, three sets of their ashes (we had to bury the first one as they didn't do cremations then), a china vase that has pink and white fake flowers in it, novelty set of football coasters, two lamps and some clay models ds2 made. Big sideboard. Also one of the cats died two weeks ago, so be gentle about the ashes. Some people probably think it's weird to have them on the sideboard.

FreshEyre · 24/11/2018 20:34

Just checked...

Pair of matching lamps
Napkin holder
4 framed photos
2 candles - one of which should have been 'binned' weeks ago
Empty glass decanter
1/2 bottle port
Random tub of fish food
Amazon delivery note
Nail clippers

It started off fairly well. Blush

Tigger001 · 24/11/2018 20:34

Not a side board as such but a shelf with

a pencil case out of reach of my DS as he keeps emptying it out all over my floor
A pile of receipts
A Snufflebabe spray

2 odd socks of my DS, which I'm sure their partner keeps popping up and disappearing again.
The landline handset - again out of reach of little fingers dialling random numbers and shouting "hello" luckily hasn't actually got through to anyone ......yet
Sunglasses
Discarded tissues

Wedding anniversary framed keepsakes - original purpose of shelve

MinorProphet · 24/11/2018 20:35

DaffydownClock · 24/11/2018 20:39

Oak dresser that has a bowl of seashells and corals collected from holidays over the years, three cut glass jugs, several pieces of Venetian glass, an Asiatic dish of miscellaneous crap and a pile of bits ready to go to DD's sometime.

LittleMachine · 24/11/2018 20:40

I have one framed photo from our wedding and one small silver ornamental box. I don’t like lots of things.
Actually I have just noticed a rogue Match Attax card 😡 So I’m going to find DS1 so he can file it accordingly 😬.

ThePortlyPinUp · 24/11/2018 20:43

I used to have a wedding photo, a lamp and an ornament.

Now there is a fish tank.

Notquiterichenough · 24/11/2018 20:44

A lamp, a sculpture type thing my MIL bought us and, rather randomly, a smoke machine and a strobe light.

Bouchie · 24/11/2018 20:44

I am not sure I know what a sideboard is. Pretty sure I don't have one

Bunnybigears · 24/11/2018 20:48

A pile of opened post that didnt eant throwing away but I havent bothered dealing with yet.

My wedding photo
A candle holder my dd made

Another photo

Gazelda · 24/11/2018 20:55

Framed photos. Candles. One of the Tower Of London poppies. A handmade banshee. A winking sheep.

StartingGrid · 24/11/2018 20:56

Pile of random shite on it, and a rabbit snoozing under it. We have just bought a new (bigger) one but I can't bring myself to get rid of the old one as its bunnys fave place for a nap and the new one has no gap underneath!

2018dramaqueen · 24/11/2018 20:59

A copper fruit bowl, a bottle of angel perfume, a school term dates letter, a make up bag, packet of crisps and a hairbrush. In the dining room.
This was not a design choice 🙄

Theonewiththecat · 24/11/2018 20:59

A lovely photo frame with a photo of me and DH on our wedding day
A lamp
A yankee candle
Dds laptop
A hair brush
And a bra (my bra to be precise)

tinselfest · 24/11/2018 20:59

A Toblerone
Sellotape
house phone
pot of pens, most of which don't work
a dish with bunches of keys in it
another dish with loose change in it
4 whisky tumblers in a box
a bonsai pot, empty
a hole punch
a packet of cowslip seeds
several guitar picks
travel sewing kit
pocket battleships game
three packs of Christmas cards

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/11/2018 21:05

Flowers, a candle (lit and smells gorgeous), a photo of DS, a lamp shaped like a house (that is broken but I like the shape and one day I will take the light fitting out and put a candle in it), a glass bottle with fairy lights in it. Underneath there are shelves that have recipe books, big books that don't fit on the bookshelf and a fancy jug that was a present.
