Strange things you used to enjoy doing as a child

As im doing the housework, i remember how much i used to enjoy cleaning the toilet when i was little... Used to beg my mum to let me clean it, she didnt always let me, which im guessing was guilt as it shouldnt really be an enjoyable job??

Did anyone else find weird things enjoyable/a treat when you were little?

Putting tooth marks into cheese and cucumbers. Gave my DM the rage.

I used to love playing with all the cleaning products in the cupboard under the sink. I pretended it was a big house and I would have a great time with the Jif bottles and the like. I sat there for hours. I actually had lovely toys and dolls so it wasn't because i had no real toys.

played with dm's make up, making lovely potions out of talc and perfume

Washing dolls' clothes by hand, and ironing them with a toy iron.

I hate ironing now.

Putting pva on my finger tips and peeling it off no idea why I loved that so much especially if I could peel it all off in one and see my finger print

Changing my room around every week!! Wardrobe, bed, drawers!! Not sure of the configurations as it was bloody tiny!!

You used to get mini bars of dairy milk in those multipack bags (I know you still get mini mars and snickers etc) and I used to take them out the wrapper, then stick them on the radiator in my bedroom to melt them. As in: I stuck the chocolate directly on the radiator. As it melted, I would PE it off and then wipe the melted chocolate off the radiator with my finger and lick that off. And eat the half melted chocolate. Lovely.

I'd clean up the radiator after.

I haven't told anyone that. Oh, apart from my best friend who came round and saw a half melted chocolate bar on the radiator but I lied and said I'd dropped it.

I wouldn't do it now. In hindsight it is indeed weird. And unhygenic obvs.

Desperate to do the ironing when I was 4. Felt so happy when mum let me iron hankies and tea towels. I did all the ironing when I was older. Enjoy a good 3 hour session now.

Similar to the person above but it was crayons on the radiator and no, I didn’t eat them.

Huntly that reminds me - you know the wax coating that certain kinds of cheese come in? (It was Edam in the 70s). I used to keep that, soften it against a hot radiator and make little models with it. I'm not sure my mum was too thrilled.

I also used to enjoy hand washing and ironing my dolls clothes!

With the cheese thing, i used to do that with babybell red wax stuff, warm it in my hands until it was soft and then make models

Although i have to say... Eating melted chocolate off a radiator wins the thread so far...😂

I learnt to cross stitch when I was about 8/9 and decided that I was a professional sewer so spent the next few years "customising" everything by sewing buttons on 😂😂 especially pillow cases

I loved sucking Chubb keys. I dont have fillings but it made a weird tingling in my mouth. My mum used to go mad when she caught me! Pretty un-hygienic!!

i used to play with pens, make the pens have a school,
also used to make the grass cuttings into a house, I think my DM taught me that.

dig for china, hang on, i think i was duped!
but i collected the china.

I used to go to the deep end of the swimming pool and spend a good 20 minutes sinking to the botttom and pushing myself up again. I think it was a kind of meditation!
I also used to eat raw spaghetti

Playing with my nan's button tin. I needed some buttons recently for a cardigan I was knitting, and went through her button tin for the first time in 30 years. It was so nostalgic and I found myself playing with the buttons like I did as a child.

Potions in the sink always talc, making all this goopy stuff and then panicking it wouldn't flush away and I'd get into trouble!.

Tying string into knots & undoing them. Again & again.
As a teenager, for years, I had a monthly subscription to a puzzle magazine (word searches, crosswords, logic puzzles, etc). Long before Sudoku but there was a regular set of puzzles with very similar rules. Nowadays that mag would be targeted at elderly people.

Colleague saw my Sudoku* book & despaired of me doing something for the elderly with failing cognition. I didn't think to explain my teenage mag subscription. My work is mostly puzzle solving, too!

A friend and I would pinch each others hands and bend eachothers fingers back under the desk. We liked it!

Id sit up in trees watching the birds for hours.

I used to wrap sellotape around my fingers then lick them until all the glue came off and then peel the plastic bit of followed by the gluey bits left behind.
I also used to eat the corners of newspapers and books, that was a bit of a compulsion and I got in huge trouble at school for it

Sitting in a cereal bowl and spinning on the carpet 😳.

Picking my scabs, loved it. And twisting loose teeth.
