Strange things you used to enjoy doing as a child

As im doing the housework, i remember how much i used to enjoy cleaning the toilet when i was little... Used to beg my mum to let me clean it, she didnt always let me, which im guessing was guilt as it shouldnt really be an enjoyable job??

Did anyone else find weird things enjoyable/a treat when you were little?

I loved putting my finger in the butter dish then the sugar pot and eating it. Always made sure mum wasn't in the room though!

I used to like pulling the skin up on the pads of my fingers and putting pins through it. It didn't hurt, which I found fascinating, and sometimes I'd see how many pins I could put through one finger. Yuk.

I have no piercings or tattoos as an adult, don't self-harm.

Quite weird.

Miles, I did that too! But not on the pads of my fingers, just on any hard skin area, not since I was early teens though. I've never self harmed either.

I'd suck raw eggs through a hole in the top of the egg
I'd pick up tiny tiny pebbles or bits of loose gravel and swallow them!! LOADS of them actually.
Begged my Mum to let me clean the bathroom from top to bottom (I was great at it and she always let me do it)

Walking around the house on our knees while grasping our feet up behind us. My brother and I used to do this for hours. My mum hated it and said it would knacker up our knees - I think she might have been right as they are a bit creaky now!

I used to eat rubbers... A lot
And make epic potions with anything I could get my hands on in the bathroom... That stopped when I dropped and broke a large bottle of my mum's perfume on the bathroom carpet (ugh carpets in bathrooms) and it stank for months!

I used to count. I’d sit there and count as high as I could before getting distracted by something. Especially in the car

This has triggered so many memories:

Playing with button tins - Yes for hours
Sticking pins in finger skin - Yes, although I used to add thread and sew through mine!!
Eating weird stuff - Yes, rubbers and pencil ends, hair ends.

Mostly though, I seriously considered myself to be a horse. I galloped everywhere. I spent hours building jumping courses round the garden and jumping the hurdles. I also snorted and neighed a lot . Probably really fit though, and hours spent outside.

This thread is bringing back so many memories. I also loved painting myself with PVA glue and peeling it off.

I liked to put party bags on my feet and "skate" around the hall.

My friend liked to scribble on digestive biscuits with a pencil and then eat them. She also ate shavings from wax crayons .

I once had a competition with the girl next door to see who was the most stupid daring eater. We stood on our climbing frames so we could see each other and ate various herbs from the garden and goodness knows what else. The girl next door won by drinking bubble bath.

My favourite treat was custard creams dipped in orange squash, I thought that this was a normal thing and thought that everyone did it until people have told me how gross it was. What's even funnier is that my 4 yo has started doing the same( without knowing that I used to do it)

I used to walk around with a mirror (like a bit bigger than A4 sized) held horizontally out from my waist. So when I looked in it I felt like I was walking on the ceiling.
Particularly entertaining on the stairs.
Now I think about it no idea how I didn’t break a limb 😂😂😂

Making 'perfume' with rose petals in jam jars

I did the rose petals and water thing too, I used to leave it in little pots in my room and I would eventually have to hunt it out due to the rancid stench. 😂

My best friend and I used to prick our fingers and mix our blood saying we were then blood sisters. 😂

Making dens in the woods and little 'corals' for the tadpoles in the stream.
I used to keep a diary and walk around looking for nests. I'd make a note of where they were, what species, if the eggs were hatched and then check on them every week (without touching).
Then I'd compare it to the previous year. Birds are creatures of habit.
Making fires in the woods (looking back, it was quite dangerous).

Spent most of my childhood outdoors in the summer and good weather as my mum liked us to be 'out of her hair'.
But then she did have bi-polar and I preferred to stay away.
In winter I stayed at friend's houses most of the day.

'Fishing' by standing on top of the sofa, with a tape measure

doing hands on and then jumping over post boxes

The game my sister and I enjoyed most involved both of us lying on the sofa then kicking each other really hard. The loser was the first to cry to Mum...

Car wash! It was such a treat.

When my mum peeled the potatoes she would leave the peelings in the sink so I could use a scoop thing and pretend I worked in a fish and chip shop
I would dramatically scoop the 'chips'

Also I was 9 when my little brother was born and no one was allowed to change his nappy apart from me! Especially the poo ones!
I loved it!!! Felt so grown up

Shutting myself in our storage cupboards with the lights off.

@MiniDoofa I used to do that too! I did it recently, but it's not so fun as an adult

I was severely lonely as a child and would play with my shadow.
