Yes or no? & where in the country are you?

No. But I won't last much longer. South East

Grin @Gardai
It’s ridiculous – all this smug virtue signalling about not putting the heating on. Fair enough if you can’t afford it. I had to scrape the ice off my car this morning. There is no way I would have not had the heating on indoors. People who use a calendar instead of a thermostat to decide when the heating goes on are just bonkers.

We have single glazing and storage heaters in a one bed house. It's costing £4 a day just to achieve 14 degrees this week in Greater London.

That's with a big-ass curtain over the front door and plastic taped across the windows.

Renting sucks.

PodgeBod · 22/11/2018 23:44

Yes, for a while, we are in Essex. I have a 2 bed house but it is tiny and well insulated- if I put the tumble dryer on I have to turn the heating off. It is lacking in many ways, but I enjoy it in the winter months!

Stupomax · 23/11/2018 03:08

Well, it's -13C here and there's a foot of snow on the ground...

moredoll · 23/11/2018 03:11

Yes. Of course. It's really cold outside here in London, and we have a two year old.

UatuTheWatcher · 23/11/2018 19:29

I’m down in Cornwall and suffer from fibromyalgia. We switched the heating on at the end of October but with the thermostat set at 15C and I’ve just nudged it up to 18C. The heating is on 24/7 and just comes on when the temperature dips below that in the house. As it gets a bit colder then the thermostat will be nudged up a bit more.

We’re in rented and it’s a weird house as it goes up a hill sideways and is over four floors. The middle bit of the house is 1760’s and the front is 1880 and back is 2000’s. All the windows are the original sash’s.

Haha, I love this competitive hypothermia. We've had ours on for the odd day over the last month, we do benefit from living in a fairly new middle terrace so are pretty insulated, but this week it's been set to 22c and is coming on everyday now. It snowed here overnight on Tuesday into Wednesday.

bruce43mydog · 23/11/2018 19:46

Northwest and yes its on and still cold

TheBigBangRocks · 23/11/2018 19:48

Yes, it stays on thermostat all year round somit kicked in when temperatures dropped. I hate being cold or wearing ten million layers in the house.

I don't get all the competitiveness of not putting the heating on. Fine if you live alone but not considerate when there are others in the household especially children.

Delatron · 23/11/2018 21:22

Stupid question. Fine to ask in October maybe but the whole of the country has been freezing this week, it’s the end of November for God’s sake so if people can afford to have it on then I’m sure they will.

I don’t actually understand why you would ask this?

Growingboys · 23/11/2018 21:24

London here. Fucking freezing. Heating on plus vests and hotties all round.

ItWasntMeItWasIm · 23/11/2018 22:02

Had the heating on at 15 all day today (can't really afford it but sick child at home) and it was a lot less miserable!

Elderflower14 · 23/11/2018 22:08

Yes been on a month in East Anglia....

LoniceraJaponica · 23/11/2018 23:15

I agree with Delatron.

Unless you are struggling financially why on earth would you ask such a stupid question when it is 4 degrees outside?

Competitive hypothermia is clearly a mumsnet "sport"
Not feeling the cold doesn't make you a better person Hmm
