How many pairs of PJs do your DC have?

GreedyBastard · 21/11/2018 16:45

I have done a massive clearout today of kids clothes ect. I was going to buy both DC some new PJs this week but now ive got to the bottom of the wash basket all dried and put away Blush

They have
DC3 8 pairs
DD18months 6 pairs
Now surely this is enough! Why does it always feel like they have none?

Had me wondering how many PJs have your DC got?

Loads, 10-15 each. My DC like choice and I like shopping for children's clothes! I try and get two nights out of them.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 22/11/2018 12:15

DD (3) has about 12 sets She has a fresh set every night at the weekend, as she invariably gets her breakfast all down them. During the week, they get changed every 1 - 4 days, depending on how long it takes her to smear toothpaste/spill bedtime milk all down her. Work means I mostly wash at weekends, so usually do need a few extra to make sure we always have some.

At the moment, she gets new ones roughly every 6 months, as she either grows out of her old ones or needs to switch from winter long ones to summer shorts (she is very temperature sensitive, otherwise I wouldn't bother with the long/short thing - but bitter experience of disturbed nights tells me it is worth it!).

I've just bought her new long winter ones, and I'll put her short summer ones away in the hope they might fit next year they won't

@SumitosIsMyWall that sounds like a good system. I can see how the clothes would really build up. I didn’t go overboard for baby clothes for DD. But when I look at them now in the space saving vacuum packs (saving for a potential DC2) it still seems so many!

And we wonder why the planets fucked 🤷🏼‍♀️

TheWickedWitchofWestYorkshire · 22/11/2018 13:34

I'm shocked by how many pairs of PJs people have. Are you the same people who chuck them to wash after just one wear and who probably wash them at 60°C+? I also wonder if you're the same people who then comment on global warming threads, wringing your hands about how the earth is fucked because of pollution, overuse of chemicals, too many plastics, not enough water, too much energy being wasted etc.?

Anyway, in answer to the original question, in our house of 2 adults and 2 children we have 2x pairs of PJs each. They get washed (at 30°C) after 3-4 nights' wear. We wear them until they're too small or are torn and are then sent off to be recycled.

megletthesecond · 22/11/2018 13:45

Our pj use went through the roof after the kids had worms a couple of times and a run of sickness bugs. This was many years ago now but they still change their pjs every night just in case.

Nedzilla · 22/11/2018 14:44

Where do you all store that many pajamas? do you also have similar numbers of say t-shirts, trousers etc?

3 seems a good number to me. As others have said, thats one on, one off and one in wash.

Cuzcothellama · 22/11/2018 14:47

DD1 has about 6 pairs of PJs and 2 nighties and DD2 has 3 PJs and 2 nighties at the moment. They will get christmas pyjamas, but no more.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 22/11/2018 14:49

At the moment 2 that I alternate every other day

user1497787065 · 22/11/2018 16:51

Why would you not have clean pyjamas each night?

Camomila · 22/11/2018 17:23

A million...FIL bought DS a few pairs of nice pjs back from the Phillipines once and I said how nice they were...the next time he went he came back with a whole stack of them.
They are obviously all summery so I've had to buy winter ones too.

Nedzilla · 22/11/2018 17:33

User - because children are bathed or showered before bed, then sleep. The Pyjamas aren't getting dirty from outdoors, no food spills, not sweaty etc... therefore no reason not to wear another night.
As an adult, I only wear pyjamas between getting out of an evening bath and going to bed, i don't actually wear them in bed (pants yes). So mine are worn 1-2hrs max in the evening, whilst I sit on a clean sofa. Therefore worn again.

Obviously if you are super sweaty, eat your dinner in pjs, or have a child who wets still, or leaky nappies etc, then your change more frequently according to need.

littlemisssunshine81 · 22/11/2018 17:39

Far too many, and mostly too small probably. PJs are on my to do list for a clear out. I think 4-5 pairs is a good number so that I don’t have to be washing them too often. I try to avoid new pairs every day to minimise on the washing but they always get covered in weetabix Confused or wee (DS1 going through a phase of soaking right through his pull ups Sad)

Rebah · 22/11/2018 17:44

10 and 12 year old, three pairs and s onesie each.

2 year old three pairs plus 4 footless babygrows that only just fit her despite being aged 12-18 months. Only use those in emergencies though as they’re a pain when she needs a wee. And about four nighties that she was given and refuses to wear.

JurassicGirl · 24/11/2018 12:27

All dc have 6 - 8 pairs of winter pyjamas.

They each have 3 - 4 pairs of summer pjs but often just sleep in vest & pants when it's hot.

Cachailleacha · 24/11/2018 12:33

DS12 has four pairs of pyjama shorts. Two have matching pyjama t-shirts that he doesn't wear, he wears other t-shirts instead. He would only need two pairs though (if I was replacing them).

celticprincess · 24/11/2018 21:50

I’m one of those weird people whose kids wear clean every night - they don’t get dressed though until after breakfast so often do end up work food/toothpaste down them. I’ve tried asking them to put them back in the drawer or on the chair to wear again but they never will. I only wash on the weekend so they have enough pairs to last the week. The youngest has more than the eldest as she gets hand me downs. Eldest seems to constantly grow out of hers. They only love with me 4 nights most weeks but we often run out when they stay for the full week - well not quite run out but more they have to get them off the radiator to wear or from the clean pile waiting to be put away.
When we go camping I only take 1-2 pairs for them but they seem to accept that they’re scruffier when camping and that we need to pack less.

lljkk · 24/11/2018 22:23

None that they'll wear (mostly teens).
DD nicks my (3 possible) PJ bottoms or wears joggers/plain black leggins & a t-shirt. Little DS has 1x onesie. Middle DS wears shorts & t-shirt. Not sure about big DS (moved out).

TowerRingInferno · 24/11/2018 22:26

2 pairs each but they only wear them if we go away (which we rarely do). At home they know naked or just wear pants . They wear onesies around house in the evenings but get dressed into normal clothes as soon as they wake up.

TowerRingInferno · 24/11/2018 22:28

SHoukd have added that they are 11 and 12. They did wear pJs a lot more when younger.

Notso · 24/11/2018 22:51

DD has loads of pairs easily 20. she's 18 and if she's in she's wearing pyjamas. I hate it.
DS1 has three pairs plus a kind of lounge suit thing he uses for winter scout camps.
DS2 4 pairs.
DS3 6 pairs.

Pinkhorses · 24/11/2018 22:56

Why do people buy so many ? Did you all buy in bulk or receive as gifts?

DD7 has 2 pairs - one to wear , one to wash

SoyDora · 25/11/2018 07:20

Did you all buy in bulk or receive as gifts?

Bit of both really. DD1 got 3 pairs for her birthday last week from various people (not me)
One to wear, one to wash wouldn’t work here as I would be washing every couple of days. They’re only 5 and 3 so still get breakfast down them or don’t always wipe properly when they get up in the night for a wee.
All DD1’s get handed down to DD2.

TimeToRevolutionize · 25/11/2018 07:24

He's got about 14 pairs. I remember because I've recently bought him new pyjamas as he is starting potty training soon (he was in babygrows but impossible to potty train in that lol)

Allthepinkunicorns · 25/11/2018 07:33

7 pairs that ds can wear in the winter and 4 summer pairs which I need to get rid off. I change ds pyjamas every day as he is so messy I just have to.
