I never knew that lametta was called lametta. Another mumsnet learning experience! I love that too, although it HAS to be gold for me. I also like coloured lights and loads of mismatched old ornaments.

Ooo I'm looking forward to putting the tree up in a couple of weeks now, thanks OP!

Alfie190 · 21/11/2018 05:30

No, tacky.

Longdistance · 21/11/2018 05:42

Twisted ribbon looks better. Either around the tree or cascading down the tree.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 21/11/2018 06:06

Yes! I think that matchy matchy grownup trees are much less appealing than the gaudy types

Same here, I find them oddly clinical and something you would find in an office, not a home. We are a tinsel, coloured lights, and mismatched baubles household!

Though even I draw the line at blue lights.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 21/11/2018 06:09

I suspect that the people with matchy matchy Christmas trees are the same people that bleach their arseholes.

Heatherjayne1972 · 21/11/2018 06:09

No. Not now not ever

However your tree your choice

whiteroseredrose · 21/11/2018 06:16

Yes. Ours is gold. DH buys random colours in the sales but thankfully never uses it.

hazeyjane · 21/11/2018 06:25

Yes..draped over anything that can be tinselled.

Lunalula · 21/11/2018 10:16

Whilst living at home, my mum hated it so we would never have tinsel on the tree. Living with my dp and have for some time, he loves every colour possible tinsel on the tree!
I think I'd prefer it if it was just one colour orr type of tinsel on the tree, even if it was rainbow coloured tinsel!

ProfessorMoody · 21/11/2018 10:23

Tinsel isn't for me, but if you like it, go for it!

I absolutely love my matching tree. It always looks beautiful and I'm not a fan of anything and everything on a tree. My mother's tree is traditional and has mixed decorations and looks beautiful too.

Why on earth would me preferring a matching theme on my tree mean I bleach my arsehole. Probably the most bizarre, batshit statement I've ever read on Mumsnet.

Enko · 21/11/2018 10:25

NO I dont like the thick fat tinsel.. Just about tolerate smaller ones but not on the tree.

GrinGrin I’ve read worse, but it’s definitely up there.

No. They're really not.

I don't have tinsel and I have an achingly tasteful tree. It fills me with such ennui.

Yet I really can't bring myself to go for a lovely, lovely colour explosion. Probably because all those wooden and glass decorations have been bought over the years and so many memories come with them.

I do have some tinsel around the house though and I shall now be smelling it. If it does indeed smell of Christmas, it's going right back on that tree. There's hope for me yet.

ShodAndShadySenators · 21/11/2018 10:52

The only thing about matchy trees is when the ornaments are very sparse and the whole thing looks half-hearted. Banks' Christmas trees are very like that and they also tend to be in the bank's logo's colours which is awful.

Matchy-matchy and themed trees with lots of decorations on the other hand look lovely, same as trees with eclectic mix. It's the effort that went into it it makes a difference

Rockbird · 21/11/2018 10:57

Yes. And Christmas trees should be bedecked in gold, silver, red and green. None of this purple, pink, blue shite. No flamingoes or sloths or little bottles of fucking gin.

beeefcake · 21/11/2018 10:57

No no and definitely no.

longwayoff · 21/11/2018 11:03

Not for me thanks. No coloured lights too.

Thanks Grin I was joking though. It was an off-the-cuff remark based on the fact that I find the matchy matchy trees a bit boring and clinical and I suspect that they are loved mainly by the kind of people who are a bit uptight, obsessed with appearances, and extra hygienic. Hence my comment.

I apologise most sincerely for any offence caused, and I’m revising my statement:

The people with matchy matchy Christmas trees are the people with no sense of humour and bleached arseholes

NO! Tinsel is naff!

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 21/11/2018 11:14

(That was also a joke Grin)

littlemisscomper · 21/11/2018 11:59

No. I was born in Germany and just use traditional coloured fairy lights and loads of gorgeous wooden hand made decorations. They're really lovely - little wooden toys mostly, like miniature rocking horses and drums and trains, and lots of little bells which tinkle as you brush against the tree. Most of the decs are over 30 years old. I use tinsel on the ceiling beams and it looks nice enough there but I'd hate to have it on the tree, or those gaudy baubles.

I do a matchy matchy tree and have tinsel. Bloody love it.

Dm has a tree covered in random baubles collected over the years. No colour theme whatsoever. Multicoloured lights. White lights. Tinsel. The works! I love it. Proper Christmassy!

Escolar · 21/11/2018 13:56

Yes!
