No - it's naff.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 20/11/2018 19:42

Definitely but only wrapped all the way up the centre of the tree so it fills it out and reflects the lights.

Cannot beat a bit of the sparkly stuff.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 20/11/2018 19:47

Yes! I think that matchy matchy grownup trees are much less appealing than the gaudy types 😊

Definitely no coloured lights though, that's a step too far even for me...

RomanyRoots · 20/11/2018 19:49

I like it and have always done it, dil thinks I'm mad and she can't stand it on her tree.
Each to their own.

fussychica · 20/11/2018 19:50

Good quality, gold and soft white lights which DON'T flash. Lovely light reflecting effect. Plus baubles and other decorations purchased over many years.
Not in November though mine goes up a max of 2 weeks prior to the big day.

Villanellesproudmum · 20/11/2018 19:54

We do but it’s partly to fatten it up. Poor fake tree is about 15 years old and shedding its load. We can part with it though !

Penguinsetpandas · 20/11/2018 19:57

Yes for us but only silver. Though I always perfectly align everything then DH moves it. Grin

BigStripeyBastard · 20/11/2018 20:51

Yeah, go on, fuck a whole load of tinsel at the tree and go nuts.
You must always smell the tinsel too! Tinsel Smell is the smell of Christmas..... you can stick all your cinamon sticks and festive shite..... get your hooter in the tinsel and have a good whiff!
I love tinsel.
(Disclaimer....I haven't bothered with christmas decorations in years. I just go to Homebase and surreptitiously sniff their tinsel when the staff aren't looking)

MissMarplesKnitting · 20/11/2018 20:55

I'm going sans tinsel this year.

I have purchased 'picks' in pale gold to poke into the tree instead.

If it looks crap, the tinsel will come back out....

TheMagicTorch · 20/11/2018 20:58

Not for me personally, just taste, but if you like it then go for it!

Odiepants · 20/11/2018 21:05

Yes, the more the merrier and as many colours as possible. I like my tree so there at more decorations and tinsel than actual tree in display Grin

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/11/2018 21:47

Nope, I have feather boas and chains made of ribbons.

The dc are allowed tinsel on their tree (if they insist!)

starzig · 20/11/2018 22:58

I don't but I have a lot of lights and decorations.

Redyoyo · 20/11/2018 23:16

I like the look of it but the smell of tinsel gives me the boak i actually gag walking past it, i dunno why.

WhattodoWhattodo2 · 20/11/2018 23:30

Tinsel, absolutely yes.
Lametta on the other hand...

LadyPamplemousse · 20/11/2018 23:38

I don't like the chunky tinsel you get these days but I have a soft spot for 1950s-1980s tinsel. If I tell myself it's vintage maybe it will seem more hipstery!

I had to google lametta. Yeah, that stuff just looks messy to me.

NorthenderNamechanger · 20/11/2018 23:39

Is this a thing then? I thought it was just me being some kind of tinsel pervert [santa]

LadyPamplemousse · 20/11/2018 23:40

Definitely no coloured lights though, that's a step too far even for me...

I much prefer coloured lights on indoor trees to 'tasteful' white ones.

Mindgone · 20/11/2018 23:45

Yes, of course!

NorthenderNamechanger · 20/11/2018 23:48

I like to have both. The more the merrier!

LadyPamplemousse · 20/11/2018 23:50

Just no 'emergency services' blue lights. Those are hideous.

DuckofDoom · 21/11/2018 00:33

No no no!

Love the smell of it, but it looks hideous

Katedotness1963 · 21/11/2018 00:39

What do we mean by tinsel? That shiny boa things or the shiny thin strands? “Boa” type yes, thin strands, nope.

villainousbroodmare · 21/11/2018 00:53

Not for me. Warm white lights, decorations in red, gold, white and natural wood/ string/ hessian and gingerbread only. However I'm going to have to set up a Tacky Tree for DH and kids which they can drape as they wish. Grin

RedDwarves · 21/11/2018 01:10

No. I think tinsel is very outdated nowadays.
