For me, it’s an emergency vehicles coming through traffic and everyone just moves. I feel a real collective spirit in the moment of a stranger’s crisis and it really chokes me.

You?

Brass bands, male friends being very tender to one another, cillíni, the moment in the evening when the lighthouse near where I grew up starts, the Oxford May morning hymn, coming home from a walk in the twilight on a winter evening like this one, a certain kind of peaceful old man pub. And all the usual stuff like elderly couples holding hands.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 17/11/2018 16:50

Oh the band! My son goes to a school with an amazing band (he’s not in it) and they play at lots of events in our town, I always get prickly eyes at them playing.

Lost and found and because of it penguins in general
I’d gone through some very difficult things and was a bit heartbroken the first time I saw the animation.....it somehow stuck in my mind and when I see a penguin I cry and if I watch it ......I’m a wreck ! I love it but it has so much meaning to me and makes me very emotional

RamonaQ · 17/11/2018 16:52

Flashmobs! And children trying hard, in a performance or running a race kind of thing!

Sowhatifisaycunt · 17/11/2018 16:52

Was going to say brass bands and thought it would be an odd one but apparently not @bedhair

OhFlipMama · 17/11/2018 16:53

Tonight's sunset. It was so beautiful it truly took my breath away and I get myself getting rather emotions about it. Not entirely sure why!

Chocolatebourbons · 17/11/2018 16:54

Children singing Christmas carols.
Church bells pealing, e.g for weddings or practice.

flapjackfairy · 17/11/2018 16:55

Military marching bands . I only have to hear the boom boom boom of the big base drum and I am gone ! As a child the ending of Dads Army got me every time when the band starts up backed by the air raid siren . Gulp !

flapjackfairy · 17/11/2018 16:58

Oh and the end credits of All Creatures Great and Small !
The last notes are accompanied by a picture of the snowy dales and for reasons I still don't understand it makes me feel wistful and sad and my stomach sort of twists !

Justwanttotravel · 17/11/2018 17:00

Emergency vehicles choke me up too!

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 17/11/2018 17:02

Just googled cillini Sad

Weirdly this year it was fireworks. All the collective ooohing and ahhing made me feel a bit choked up. I think it was just the fact that (financial and social impacts aside), we essentially set off fireworks because we think they are beautiful.

Brass bands, especially at Christmas and remembrance time

OneTwistedAngel · 17/11/2018 17:04

I used to always cry at the KFC advert with the foster kid growing up and going back as an adult and offering the new foster kid some KFC... Its silly but I swear I would be in floods of tears!

Biscuitsneeded · 17/11/2018 17:04

Definitely brass bands, esp when playing Xmas carols, children singing, and the song 'Because I knew you' in Wicked, which is what I wish I could have said to a very close friend who died unexpectedly.

AnneLovesGilbert · 17/11/2018 17:05

Rainbows. Such a cliche but it’s true Grin They’ve appeared at several moments when things seemed too shit to get through and have been a reminder that beauty, though often fleeting, is always around us.

Anything where people get awards or prizes for things they’ve done. Chokes me up.

The end of anything like books and good tv shows.

Cooking a roast. Something wonderful about feeding people, especially the DC, vast quantities of hot, lovely food I’ve put effort into making special. In a similar vein, watching the DC laying the table in preparation for a big family meal.

OhFlipMama · 17/11/2018 17:05

When the band starts up on Remembrance Sunday that gets me every time. But I don't count that as weird.

Oh I'm often welling up when any child I work with does very well in class! I feel so proud of them sometimes. Likewise for shows they perform. Softie. Hmm

iklboo · 17/11/2018 17:06

Male voice choirs, especially Welsh ones
The Welsh national anthem sung at the rugby
Brass bands

StorminaBcup · 17/11/2018 17:06

Anything and everything. I teared up at the John Lewis Ad and I'm really not one to get excited about these things. I blame having kids, I used to have a stone cold heart before them Grin

TarquinGyrfalcon · 17/11/2018 17:07

People finishing races - not the winners but those who have given 100% and don't win.

Christmas Carols

Acts of spontaneous kindness or support. Years ago while watching a Christmas play I remember a child dropping a prop off the stage and stand like a rabbit in headlights obviously about to cry, her friend climbed hed off the stage and passed it back to her, hugged and then carried on with the next line. Made me sob like a baby - it was the little hug that did it.

biggreenfingers · 17/11/2018 17:13

Going to the Christmas carols choir in December ❤️

Chocolatebourbons · 17/11/2018 17:16

Hearing England football fans sing the National Anthem at big matches.

starlight45 · 17/11/2018 17:18

Ugly vegetables that no one wants.
Lost balloons.
Whole chickens that are reduced. They died for nothing.
Dogs left outside shops on their own.
Abbatoir signs.
The John Lewis advert. I don't even like Elton John's songs.
Animals in fields. Destined for the abbatoir.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 17/11/2018 17:19

Since I became a mum, pretty much everything makes me cry.

My husband is on some new epilepsy medication which for some reason has made him really hormonal and emotional. More through frustration though. Found him in our bedroom sobbing as he was trying to put the duvet cover on Grin

NotUmbongoUnchained · 17/11/2018 17:20

whole chickens that are reduced

Sorry that made me giggle Grin

guiltynetter · 17/11/2018 17:20

brass bands and children singing, especially christmas songs! i’m so glad it’s not just me.

mugalug · 17/11/2018 17:22

Old people collecting for the poppy appeal
