What are you proud of but have no right to be?

Things I’m proud of but actually have no business being proud about....

My children are never ill (touch wood). Winters come and go and my two don’t so much as get the sniffles.

My children eat incredibly well, will devour a plate of veg happily.

My son is an exceptional sportsman. My daughter is incredibly popular and well liked by children, adults, teachers.

I had a very privileged childhood. Private school, beautiful home, very wealthy father.

(Why the heck am I “proud” about this? Had bugger all to do with me. But there we go, I freely admit I have no right to be proud of any of this list).

I have lovely thick healthy hair

Things I am proud about and perhaps can justifiably feel pride:

Returned to work after 9 years sahm to a good well paid job

Single mum of two young children and no family support network whatsoever. And I do well at balancing without without getting (too) stressed

A wonderful group of friends that I have kept from school, work and made since having children

I’m very fit and run 4/5 x a week

I would love to hear others.

If you’re proud of it, jusiftifed or not!

I haven't called my ex to come round for a late night shag in over a year even though I could do with a quickie Grin

I was proud today when my Romanian Rescue dog very gently picked up a childs toy they had dropped from a pushchair and very carefully offered it to the mum who was sat on the park bench and hadnt noticed. She was gushing about how well trained he was and I was standing their agreeing and being all proud when actually normally he is a bastard of a dog!

BeeFarseer · 17/11/2018 14:29

I could wax lyrical about surviving cancer, succeeding with work whilst juggling the needs of my autistic children, etc etc...

But what I'm really, genuinely proud of is my ability to suspend Maltesers in the air by blowing them.

Givemeallyourcucumber · 17/11/2018 14:31

I feel proud that today I cleaned the grout on the tiled kitchen floor with a tooth brush and my 4 year old and 2 year old helped with great enthusiasm.

I am also proud of how great my children are socially.

Workreturner · 17/11/2018 14:38

@Mochachinomumma

Totally completely and utterly justified in feeling proud of that!!

Oh thought of another one

My children are sleepers. I’m talking 13 hours unbroken.

Now’t to do with me.
Doesn’t stop me feeling bloody proud though

People compliment me on my son's excellent English (we live abroad). I'm proud of his English language skills despite not doing anything other than talk to him!

Conseulabananahammock · 17/11/2018 14:43

The fact my genes mean ive maintained a size 8 figure after 3 kids, and my inherited elastic skin means i have no stretch marks either.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 17/11/2018 14:46

My boobs are still amazing in my 40s after breastfeeding 2 children for 2 years apiece. Very large and very perky... Grin

Workreturner · 17/11/2018 14:51

Oh yes... no stretch marks or cellulite
Or even a hint

Again, nothing to do with me. Still proud

Extraordinarily proud of how clever, beautiful, tall, slim and shiny-haired DD is. She's adopted so can take zero credit for any of that. Like to think I have something to do with how kind, sweet and funny she is though Wink

Catpyjama · 17/11/2018 15:11

Awww bunny that's lovely

My baby. 'Very advanced', 'always smiling' (i.e. will always smile at strangers even when in the grip of doom), 'gorgeous'. I know this is a bit to do with me but he really just came out like that, at random chance.

Workreturner · 17/11/2018 15:11

@MagicKeysToAsda

Love that.

Although I think you can take some credit for the aesthetics. Good nutrition?!

bee I've never been able to do that!

WontonSoupForTheSoul · 17/11/2018 15:14

My husband is very handsome. Friends comment on it, and congratulate me in a “well done you bitch” kind of way.

Literally nothing to do with me. He was a slightly spotty 20-something with Gary Barlow curtain-hair and a selection of ugly football tops when I met him. He’s just really improved with age.

BitchQueen90 · 17/11/2018 15:18

That I have very good social skills. I'm confident and outgoing, have lots of friends and get asked out a lot by men. I'm not stunningly attractive but it's my personality that does it.

DS's 100% attendance record at school.

Catpyjama · 17/11/2018 15:23

Lol wonton I picked a late bloomer too. No-one else was interested in that weedy, painfully shy 22 year old. Me, I could see potential Wink

ShotsFired · 17/11/2018 15:28

The amount of salty butter I can lather onto tiger bread and happily eat.

LavenderBush · 17/11/2018 15:30

DS is extraordinarily handsome.

People often ask leading questions to check whether I'm actually his biological mum

Surely you take credit to some extent for all of those. As we all do as parents.

My dcs have lovely brown eyes and are sporty. Not my genes but I bask in their glory :o

Screamqueenz · 17/11/2018 15:42

My stepsons.

TokyoSushi · 17/11/2018 15:46

My children are really well behaved/popular lots of others have all sorts of problems with their children - I don't!

My house is always very tidy to the point that visitors always comment!

I have lots of friends!

But they are only 5 & 7, I am well aware I have a loooonnnggg way to go

ForalltheSaints · 17/11/2018 15:47

My foreign language skills, which are in reality nowhere as good as people think they are.

Whiskeyjar · 17/11/2018 15:48

@WontonSoupForTheSoul my husband is the same. Cute but average looking as a teen but an incredibly handsome man now. My friends all comment on it too and I see women looking at him a certain way when we are out . The best thing is, he is the most lovely person
