What are you proud of but have no right to be?

Things I’m proud of but actually have no business being proud about....

My children are never ill (touch wood). Winters come and go and my two don’t so much as get the sniffles.

My children eat incredibly well, will devour a plate of veg happily.

My son is an exceptional sportsman. My daughter is incredibly popular and well liked by children, adults, teachers.

I had a very privileged childhood. Private school, beautiful home, very wealthy father.

(Why the heck am I “proud” about this? Had bugger all to do with me. But there we go, I freely admit I have no right to be proud of any of this list).

I have lovely thick healthy hair

Things I am proud about and perhaps can justifiably feel pride:

Returned to work after 9 years sahm to a good well paid job

Single mum of two young children and no family support network whatsoever. And I do well at balancing without without getting (too) stressed

A wonderful group of friends that I have kept from school, work and made since having children

I’m very fit and run 4/5 x a week

I would love to hear others.

If you’re proud of it, jusiftifed or not!

I have lovely veins (for taking blood, I have regular blood tests)
How beautiful dd is, I am not beautiful, DH is goodlooking but not spectacularly so.
No stretch marks on my tummy
Fast reader
I was proud of not being overdrawn on my account since the late nineties but now have a joint account and it went overdrawn this year when DH made a mistake in how much we needed to put in for an unexpected cost.
My driving license is unblemished since I passed in 94 or 95 but not driving for nearly 20 years helped there!

Scoleah · 17/11/2018 21:16

@Workreturner Haha, you've got them trained well.
The competitiveness in me wants to start sending her to bed at 7:10 just to get one over Grin

Only Joking x

BikeRunSki · 17/11/2018 21:17

I’m very proud of DD’s drive and work ethic. She’s bright, hard working and committed. She picks up everything she is taught, thinks about it and asks relevant questions. She is competent at many sports and also v popular at school. Apart from reading to her at bedtimes since she was born, i’ve done nothing really to affect this.

starlight45 · 17/11/2018 21:27

Thank you Dixie, should've done it sooner, that's what I'm not proud of. They really upset my dcs.

catlovingdoctor · 17/11/2018 21:30

My cat is absolutely dashingly gorgeous. I’m very proud indeed!

CrookedMe · 17/11/2018 21:32

My daughter is properly gorgeous- and a brave kick-ass girl.

That I'm Scottish and not English.

Neither of those are my accomplishments but there you go.

Runnynosehunny · 17/11/2018 21:34

Oh yes, my dog is very pretty and has unusual fur which people often remark on. I do preen a little when this happens.

Soph88 · 17/11/2018 21:36

Im a bit overweight and not very active (trying to change that) but can not only touch my toes, I can get my hands flat on the floor from standing. Weirdly proud of that and it actually down to the fact I have quite a long torso.

I do also have a very nice hourglass shape to my body which I'm proud of even though i do absolutely nothing to achieve.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 17/11/2018 21:57

That I don't look my age.Im 38 but I look a lot younger.
Everything about my 4 yr old ds,he's ace.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 17/11/2018 21:58

Also my Chihuhua,he's very very small and has unusual colouring, everyone comments on him in the street and I feel so proud of him

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 17/11/2018 22:18

My DGS, who got me my own thread in Classics. An utterly gorgeous little boy, cheerful, active and quite quite mad. Use the word "elephantine" to find it, I think you'll agree that becoming a grandparent is brilliant.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 17/11/2018 22:54

I am proud to have created a nappy family life for our children where mum and dad love being together.

I am proud that my children are both fully bilingual and that they say "i love you" to me all the time.

I am proud to be earning enough to send them to great schools.

I am proud that i am very attractive and slim.

I am proud that I can do press ups on my toes and have abs of steel.

I am proud that I am kind, honest and never play games.

Glossymare · 17/11/2018 23:09

I am proud that I’m in a genuinely very happy marriage.
I’m proud of my gorgeous, kind hearted, funny sons.
I’m proud of our lovely home, which we bought when we were aged 18 & 21.
I’m proud that we are nearly debt free and will be mortgage free by the time I’m 40 (if we don’t move in the meantime).

halfwitpicker · 17/11/2018 23:24

My will power to lose weight and look amazing. I've got great skin, great eyes, another one with fab boobs, no stretch marks and a flat tum after 2 kids.

Thing is, this isn't accidental. I've worked bloody hard to lose the baby weight, it's not accidental. If I didn't work at it, I'd be overweight and miserable. I look younger, feel better and have higher self esteem. This affects every aspect of my life.

I dress to flatter my figure and give not a fuck if other people other women, mostly think I'm vain/into my looks, whatever.

PolkaDoting · 17/11/2018 23:41

My hair is a rich deep brown even though I am 49.

RunSweatLaughAndLatte · 18/11/2018 11:12

Proud of my son's manners and how great he is at sharing especially as he's 3.5; he's so generous and kind that he willingly shares his sweets and things that he loves even when he's down to his last one he'll offer it to other people. Love him

I'm proud that my son has a dad who loves and cares for him, because I didn't and it's something I was adamant my children would have.

I am proud of my cheekbones and hourglass figure.

I am proud that I always see things through to the end no matter what hence I've got a law degree and run a marathon.

BakedBeans47 · 18/11/2018 11:13

halfwit you have every right to be extremely proud of that!

ItsAndTarts · 18/11/2018 17:51

Halfwit that boasting I mentioned earlier...

BoomTish · 18/11/2018 18:27

I come from an exceptionally close family. It’s all my parents’ work, so I can’t take credit for it, but it’s fantastic knowing my parents and siblings have my back at all times.

They’d do anything for me.

Kewqueue · 19/11/2018 15:01

Hopefully I won't jinx things by writing this but a continually unblemished driving licence since passing my test in 1996.

Same here - since 1990. Although surely that is something that we have a right to be proud of and the fact that I hate driving so rarely bother has nothing to do with it.

derxa · 19/11/2018 15:19

My DGS, who got me my own thread in Classics. An utterly gorgeous little boy, cheerful, active and quite quite mad. Use the word "elephantine" to find it, I think you'll agree that becoming a grandparent is brilliant. Grin Such a lovely thread. Hope you are all doing fine.

halfwitpicker · 19/11/2018 21:21

Was a bit boasty actually Blush

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 19/11/2018 21:36

My low resting heart rate and chilled-out blood pressure, even though I'm heavier than I've ever been before and in no way a dieter or gym bunny.

According to a doctor in a hospital, I have exceptionally healthy and clean ear canals.

DD is also adopted and her height, long legs and lovely blondeness is absolutely nothing to do with me, but it gives me a lovely proud glow anyway. When she was younger and smaller, she did have this resemblance to me that I was also secretly proud of, even though it was a coincidence.

TheWiseWomansFear · 19/11/2018 21:55

I live in a beautiful flat without a mortgage (no reason to be proud, it's DPs not mine but for some reason I am)

I'm very pretty and have great skin despite not taking care of it... again luck of the draw but, what can I say? I like it
