Got chest pain feels like someone's kicked me in the breastbone. Hurts to move, hurts to breathe more than shallow.

In queue for speaking to reception, already been told might not be any appointments left. They will see me with this won't they?

OP posts:
cadburysflake · 16/11/2018 10:03

111 will send an ambulance without a doubt, they just follow on screen questions which will trigger an ambulance response.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/11/2018 10:03

Except the OP has to drive herself does she not?

cadburysflake · 16/11/2018 10:04

I take these threads with a pinch of salt now, sorry. If I had chest pains I doubt I’d be sat on here asking internet randoms what I should do.

Well she drove herself to the GP with difficulty breathing and chest pain.

Notquiterichenough · 16/11/2018 10:05

It is hard to make the call, though. I spent an hour earlier wondering whether to phone the GP as I couldn't decide whether I was unwell enough (asthmatic, probably got a chest infection). I nearly posted on here, but in the end I phoned the doctors who told me they definitely need to see me this morning, and not to worry about time wasting.

I tend to agree though - if you're well enough to drive, talk, walk then GP later probably okay. If it's sudden pain/unable to breathe, then it's an emergency.

busbottom · 16/11/2018 10:05

Our surgery would have got a nurse to wire you up for an ECG as soon as you presented at the desk with chest pain.

busbottom · 16/11/2018 10:05

Oh wait?

You didn't actually tell anyone?

Go back in FFS

MyfanwyMontez · 16/11/2018 10:05

Go to A and E. I went with chest pains a few years ago and before I had sat down, I was seen. Spent 6 weeks in hospital with pneumonia.Get it checked out.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/11/2018 10:06

Well she drove herself to the GP with difficulty breathing and chest pain

Errr yeeeees... but that does not mean that she won't get worse on the way to A&E - currently she is somewhere where there are people trained to help her, as opposed to say, being in traffic, passing out and possibly injuring others in the process.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 16/11/2018 10:07

People who don’t have cars do get to a&e I presume, she doesn’t have to drive.

Angelik · 16/11/2018 10:07

The moment you say chest pain on 111 they WILL send an ambulance. Get back inside gp's and tell the truth. Doctors there will be able to assess you immediately and poss begin treatment.

If it's not serious go will know and treat appropriately and not send to a&e therefore not wasting emergency resources.

JellyBaby666 · 16/11/2018 10:07

Another one going to tell you to go to A&E. It's a priority, you'll be seen quickly. Just go. Don't need to ring 111 - chest pain they'll always tell you go to A&E, and possibly want to ring an ambulance.

mumontherun14 · 16/11/2018 10:07

If you phoned 999 with those symptoms then I think they would send an ambulance for you. So I would either do that or if you can get yourself in . Is there no one you can call to take you in?

ileclerc · 16/11/2018 10:08

I dont get these threads.

Go and tell them what the problem is.

Sudden onset chest pain IS an emergency. If you have a cold / cough it could be a chest infection. None of us can diagnose you.

I hope you are ok.

mossyroundhill · 16/11/2018 10:09

I can't imagine a situation where I couldn't breathe properly and was in immense pain yet my immediate thought would be to get on mumsnet rather than go to hospital Confused

BollocksToBrexit · 16/11/2018 10:11

Well she drove herself to the GP with difficulty breathing and chest pain.

So did my dad, and he would have driven himself to hospital too. GP wouldn't let him though seeing as he was having multiple heart attacks.

ADastardlyThing · 16/11/2018 10:12

I am doubtful that a docs surgery would send someone away in this situation if op has been fully truthful with how painful it is. Even more doubtful that someone would leave a docs surgery and call 111 instead BUT I can imagine my friend doing something like that. Frustratingly she is one of those "my legs hanging off but it's fine I'll just use the other one instead" types.

I can be a bit like that op, it can be scary, but you do need to stand your ground, you'll be seen way quicker at the docs so they can almost do the a and e triage bit and they can refer you straight away.

lljkk · 16/11/2018 10:12

Let us know how you get on, OP. It could be a million harmless things too, but sounds like you are in a Dr.'s office so will get assessed soon.

lljkk · 16/11/2018 10:13

oops... thread moved on. Where did OP say this pain was sudden? Hope she updates soon!

Cocolepew · 16/11/2018 10:13

It could be pleurisy or it could be a heart attack , or any number of things.
Either phone for ambulance or go to A&E Confused

Abeautifulpeagreenboat · 16/11/2018 10:15

This is a very odd thread. DH has been to the GP twice with chest pains and both times he has been seen immediately and an ambulance has been called. That's what happens if you present with chest pain.

Lucymumofson · 16/11/2018 10:16

I am a cardiology nurse and if you are experiencing chest pain and breathing problems you need to attend A and E straight away. You will be made a priority. Just go.

ADastardlyThing · 16/11/2018 10:16

In fact ive just remembered my dp had pleurisy a few years ago and he was a bit like this, weirdly no cough or anything else just chest pains when trying to breathe. Docs referred him for an x-ray to confirm and after 2 lots of ABs and a week off work it cleared up. Hopefully it's 'just' something like that.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 16/11/2018 10:16

There are trained medical professionals that could assess the OP right now only feet away though. Yet she goes and sits in her car to post on mumsnet.

Lucymumofson · 16/11/2018 10:17

And if you dial 111 there is a high chance they will send an ambulance for you who will take you to A and E
