Got chest pain feels like someone's kicked me in the breastbone. Hurts to move, hurts to breathe more than shallow.

In queue for speaking to reception, already been told might not be any appointments left. They will see me with this won't they?

PerverseConverse · 16/11/2018 18:23

The thread didn't make much sense. Did you see a doctor?

picklemepopcorn · 16/11/2018 18:37

What did the doctor say, Folf?

Folf · 17/11/2018 11:54

Costchondritis. I have painkillers. Discovered this morning that my asthma doesn't like naproxen, so giving up on those, it already feels like my chest is being stood on, don't need asthma tightness too.

Will stick to ibuprofen and just grin and bear it. That doesn't irritate my asthma.

Just a bit fed up now.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

hope you feel better soon. I am a bit disgusted by some of the people trying their best to catch you out as if you were lying, even if you were, why not just piss off elsewhere and leave you to it, I get what it's like when you don't necessarily have anyone to ask things of which is why lots of us use MN in the first place, to bounce ideas off and ask wwyd. Take care.

Crinkle77 · 17/11/2018 12:57

zucker i have to agree with others and praise the NHS. I went to my local walk in centre last year. A man came in and said he had chest pains. He was taken straight in to be seen by a doctor then shortly after an ambulance took him to hospital. Hope the guy was ok but luckily he was dealt with promptly.

Santasstuffedsack · 17/11/2018 13:10

Costochronditis REALLY hurts. Glad you got that diagnosed. Hopefully it won’t return for some time. Naproxen is part of the NSAID group, which Ibuprofen is also categorised into.

Santasstuffedsack · 17/11/2018 13:55

Might be to do with the dosage? As long as you’re safe x

LizzieBennettDarcy · 17/11/2018 17:05

Naproxen comes in 200mg or 500 mg strength if I recall... I had the higher dose initially for 2 weeks then dropped to the lower but had to have Omeprazole for my stomach at the same time.

notapizzaeater · 17/11/2018 17:29

Hope you feeling better and the drugs kicking in

Lillithxxx · 17/11/2018 17:37

Nrtft. Really can’t be bothered.
Chest pain but well enough to stand in the queue and post on here.🙄

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 17/11/2018 17:40

Lillithxxx give it a rest... dont believe her? then fuck off to another thread and add something useful there.

Ellyess · 17/11/2018 17:40

Folf I do hope you are feeling much better and that all the arrangements for children went ok. I really admire how you coped. That Receptionist should be sacked. Would it be worth seeing your GP as a follow-up appointment and explaining how you couldn't get help from them at the time and asking what to do in future? They need a whole load of training put in place and they need to know.
Good luck and I do hope your health keeps well especially during the Winter - wrap up warmly! BrewCakeBear

abacucat · 17/11/2018 17:42

I thought OP when reading your post that it would be that. I have had it and those who haven't and are not medics, don't seem to understand just how much it hurts. Glad it is not serious.

abacucat · 17/11/2018 17:43

Lilith This was not the case here. But women having heart attacks rarely have the doubling over/can't talk kind of pain. Two different women I know have had heart attacks and both said it felt like really really bad indigestion.

Violetsandpansies · 17/11/2018 17:43

You are lucky to not react to ibuprofen as an asthmatic!

Fluffy40 · 17/11/2018 17:49

Costochronditis really hurts, hope you get well soon. I’ve had it twice.

AnnaMagnani · 17/11/2018 17:57

Folf if you are asthmatic and reacting to naproxen, doctors would recommend you didn't have ibuprofen either.

They are both from the same family of drugs and the whole lot should be avoided. Sorry.

anniehm · 17/11/2018 18:04

Most areas (other than really rural) have walk in centres that are a half way house between a&e and regular gp - took 2 hours when I injured myself last week but I've found the drs really nice and don't treat you like you are wasting their time (time before this I got a lovely chap whose last job was in Antarctica and he told me about it whilst we waited for the not so rapid response test for "do you need antibiotics" to indicate - I did. That said our a&e now has gp's based there for more minor medical issues, if you are worried always get checked out.

mabelthedog · 17/11/2018 18:11

I'm a manager at a GP surgery. Why do people think that demanding to see the practice manager will result in an appointment 'suddenly' becoming available? We can't pull appointments out of our assholes. If there's nothing till 3pm that there's nothing till 3pm!

A GP practice is not an emergency service. If waiting until 3pm would be detrimental to a persons health then it is too urgent to be seen by a GP and you should go to somewhere which does provide emergency care.

(Not directed at the OP, but at those telling her to demand to see the PM)

I feel your pain - I cannot take any anti-inflammatories for my costochondritis as I suffered a severe liver inflammation from taking Volterol many years ago - not even allowed to take Ibuprofen.

Did you keep your afternoon appointment with the GP in the end? Can the GP prescribe something stronger that you can tolerate? I take paracetamol and codeine and have muscle relaxants for when it gets really bad. I also but aspirin cream (Movilat/Aspercreme) to rub into the sternum/rib joints.

StartingGrid · 17/11/2018 18:28

Years back my Dad actually drove himself to hospital then slumped over the wheel in the car park with a heart attack. Your post bought back memories of that, I'm glad it's not that for you but hope you feel better soon

nannygoat50 · 17/11/2018 18:48

Sounds more like muscular

Lillyringlet · 17/11/2018 19:22

Been told that my inability to breathe and intense pain was a back spasm causing a panic attack so to wait for an appointment like everyone else... Nope turned out to be chronic acute gallbladder issues and was making me very ill.
Had stomach pains and partner called 111 who sent a mini ambulance. I thought I was going to be told off for wasting their time. Nope almost died from my appendix bursting and sepsis.

I was so used to being fobbed off I almost died or got iller.

Glad you are ok and you definitely did the right thing op

MegGriffin · 17/11/2018 19:39
