Got chest pain feels like someone's kicked me in the breastbone. Hurts to move, hurts to breathe more than shallow.

In queue for speaking to reception, already been told might not be any appointments left. They will see me with this won't they?

Have you had a horrible cold, flu. Sounds you may have a chest infection of some kind. You need to be seen.

Folf · 17/11/2018 20:52

I know I'm lucky ibuprofen doesn't irritate my asthma, I took naproxen previously and was a little tight chested, but nothing my inhaler couldn't handle.

I can't take codeine based drugs unfortunately, it does absolutely nothing for me.

As for Lilith earlier, I wasn't stood in the queue, I was sat down!

I have had a bit of a sniffle/sore throat, so Dr said it could well be viral related, but my lungs are clear and temp is normal, so nothing glaringly obvious jumping out as a cause.

Jux · 17/11/2018 22:34

Busbottom, it's just that you seem to be having such a problem understanding what Folf says that it might be more sensible to spend your time on another thread so the OP can just worry about answering posts which are relevant and helpful. Perhaps.

Well clearly you are too tired to RTFT so why not fuck off to bed rather than posting cuntish and unhelpful shite?

kateandme · 18/11/2018 02:45

can you take tramadol?its only something to be take for SHORT time pain release.but might help as it from different family to the other you struggle with.
sorry you have such a painful condition but im so glad you got it diagnosed and now fingers crossed it heals soon.
its such a painful condition.the nurse told me remember to try and keep taking deep breaths.as when you have this and other rip conditions you start taking stunted breahs and this can lead to more problems becaue your lungs aren't being cleared.and you don't want a chest infection on top of it.she said what helps sometimes is to put pressure on the chest as you breathe.
get well soon.rest as much as you can.xx

Tigerpaws57 · 18/11/2018 03:48

OP what did your GP say at your 3pm appointment when you told him/her that the receptionist had not treated a patient's report of severe chest pain as an emergency?

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/11/2018 06:36

kateandme
Difficult to get tramadol just like that. It’s also just about the dirtiest drug allowed on prescription as it has a ton of side effects.

Op can you take paracetamol? Take that with the ibuprofen. It will help.

Sleephead1 · 18/11/2018 06:59

I work as a receptionist we are not medically qualified but do get trained obviously briefly on the signs of things like heart attack , stroke , sepsis ECT we would always get you to stay in surgery and get the on call doctor straight away with your symptoms so I'm surprised they didn't. I would certainly mention it as the receptionist might need more training. I have had someone come in with those symptoms and yes they walked in and the doctor saw patient and they were having a heart attack so it does happen. Hope your ok now op

Gushpanka · 18/11/2018 07:27

What concerns me in this story is the behaviour of the receptionist. They should at least have sufficient training to know that someone presenting with chest pain warrants at least a mention to the gp who should go out and assess. I've waited at gp's office before because they've had to deal with emergencies which this could have been. I'd complain to the gp's office!

Folf · 18/11/2018 09:46

Tigerpaws, that I'd done the right thing in calling 111 based on my symptoms and history.

OP posts:
Tigerpaws57 · 18/11/2018 10:20

Weren't they concerned by the receptionist's inappropriate handling of the situation?

caringcarer · 18/11/2018 14:09

Call 999 stating struggling to breathe. They will come and take you to hospital. Hope you are OK.

Hellesbelle · 18/11/2018 14:27

Just Incase you weren’t told Naproxen can really knock some people down and the side effects can be even worse than what you were given them for.
I have suffered from severe chronic pain and am on a lot of pain meds, I would stick to ibuprofen and paracetamol if you’re comfortable doing that with your asthma, and try not to get too stressed because you will probably make it worse because you’re muscles will tense. It’s incredibly difficult for a single mum who works and has either a very small support group or maybe no one to ask for help, I fully understand you not wanting to worry you’re mum but maybe she could help out a little while you’re feeling so bad, I am sure that spending time with dgc would be a great for both her and them, she might also like being able to help out. As for the haters on here YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!!! A sick woman with no support network turns to the one place that she believes that the other people using will be able to offer support and advice and instead she is in many posts, been treated in a disgusting and judgmental way. Treat others the way you would hope to be treated and if you don’t have anything constructive to say SHUT THE HELL UP!! I apologise for shouting and obviously those who have tried to help and given their support are not being shouted at and I meant no disrespect to them.
I hope you’re feeling well soon, is there a parent whose dc go to the same school who you could approach and ask if they could help getting your dc to and from school. All the best my luv and try to take it as easy as possible 🌺

doughnutbits · 18/11/2018 17:25

mablethedog, twice in the last two years I contacted our Practice Manager to praise the Practice and wouldn’t dream of asking to see her to get an appointment.

However, if OP’s situation had arisen with me, later I’d have asked the Practice to review their protocols, consider re-training receptionists (ours are so good) and having an on-call doctor available to advise patients like OP.

Buttonsareforever · 18/11/2018 18:47

I had crushing chest pain a few nights ago! I was sitting down when my whole chest and upper rib cage felt like it was being squeezed so hard I struggled to breathe and felt like I was going to pass out, the pain was horrific and radiated from my chest up my upper back and neck.
I text DP to come home straight away cause I needed him, which he did. And he phoned 111.

Ambulance car came, bp was 207/122 so off to hospital I went.

While waiting in the high dependency unit I started to feel a bit better, still had a very sore chest and upper back.

Anyway, doctor came in to see me before the blood tests were back and asked what brought me in tonight.

I looked at him and just shrunk down in my chair and said in a small voice..."wind" 😂

I had a feeling it was trapped wind, I'm recently pregnant and had bad bloating with a previous pregnancy and only reason I let DP phone 111 was cause I was in so much pain. And there was always the small chance it was heart related.

Doctor confirmed it was wind 😌 😂

I totally sympathise with you OP, don't feel silly at having to go through the whole ambulance thing. It's always being better being safer than sorry, plus I had DP, and you were by yourself. I can totally understand messaging here for advice/reassurance and probably so you didn't feel alone. I probably would've done the same if DP hadn't come home.

After my experience, nothing wrong with a wee glass of Andrew's salts and seeing if that helps 😁
I really hope you feel better soon

Stripyhoglets1 · 18/11/2018 19:11

I've had this its terrifying and very painful when it happens. Phoned for an out of hours docs appt and ended up with an ambulance being called. Hope you feel better soon.

yorkrose · 18/11/2018 22:18

I wouldn't read any further posts on here, some social media comments can be hurtful, cause stress and anxiety.

Ask family or friends to help so you can go home and rest.

Hope you improve. X

smurfy2015 · 19/11/2018 15:06

@Folf Glad, you got sorted out and hopefully have some pain relief from it now, a heat pack to the chest has helped me with it in the past,

I have had costo for 7 years now so I feel your pain. If it continues lidocaine patches can help on the area, they are non-addictive and may be ok with asthma, your GP can check on their systems
