How many children do you have/plan on having?

I'm currently expecting No 4 - and just noticing that seems about the norm now?

Had a conversation the other day about 'used to be everyone wanted two, a boy and a girl'...how many is now classed as 'too many'??

I have 3 (aged 10, 9, 2) which is the norm in my circle, would love a fourth but nature isn't complying this time. It's not make or break though so if it didn't happen I'm not going to go crazy about it but would really love another baby... Neither struggling or wealthy...

notacooldad · 16/11/2018 13:31

In my social circle and that of my colleagues and other acquaintances 2 seems to be usual number.
In the service that I work for and families I support 4+ is pretty much normal. Nearly all my case loads have 4 or more siblings ( or half and step siblings)

I have 2 (twins) and would love 4. I don’t think my dh wants anymore.

TheWickedWitchofWestYorkshire · 16/11/2018 13:38
  1. I don't plan on having more. If I had my time again, if I had children at all I'd stop at one.
toolazytothinkofausername · 16/11/2018 13:39

We hoped to have 2, then decide if we should have more.

We had 2 DC, then decided our family was complete.

I don't think it's justifiable to have more than two. The world is in a terrible mess and population pressure is a large part of it.

I'm expecting number 2 and that will be it.

pumpkinpie01 · 16/11/2018 14:06

4 .With a 20 year gap between first and last.

BirthdayKake · 16/11/2018 14:10

I have four and want about seven

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 16/11/2018 14:13

Two, and our family is most definitely complete.

Shutupanddance1 · 16/11/2018 14:18

Two and never plan on having any more. Know a lot of people who are all stopping at 2.
I’m stopping as I’ve no idea how I’d stretch myself any thinner and I’m a SAHM. Hats off to all the WOHM.

I philosophy is I only have 2 hands

BackIntoTheSun · 16/11/2018 14:20

I have one and might have another, might not. Wouldn't want more than two. Don't know many people with more than three

HollyBen · 16/11/2018 14:20

I have 2. I wouls have loved a third. DH already had a son and he thought 4 was too many. I probably could have persuaded him but for many reasons decided to stop at 2. I still have times when I yearn for a another.

ilovetocook · 16/11/2018 14:22

I've had 6 and have 2 step-daughter's as well. I'm very stressed at the moment as I've been feeling pregnant, you know all the crappy early issues but really shouldn't be possible as DH had snip 4 years ago.

PoesyCherish · 16/11/2018 14:22

Have: 1 stepdaughter
Would like 2/3 more although having never experienced pregnancy and birth (DSD's Mum did all the hard work there Grin ) I may have one and think never again.

Also worried if we have 3 more how do we handle cars, do we just have to take 2 cars every time we go out as a family or do we get a 7 seater. Hmm...

Elfinablender · 16/11/2018 14:24

I have three, most people I know have two and some have one. Four would be quite unusual in my next of the woods.

MrsApplepants · 16/11/2018 14:24

I have one child and have stopped there. Most people I know have one or two children.

RedRoseReb · 16/11/2018 14:27

I know a lot of one's, twos and threes. A handful with four or more.

I think most people with no kids move somewhere else!

NameChangeToAvoidBeingFound · 16/11/2018 14:43

I would like at least three but ideally I'm picturing six or so. (It wont happen though because it's impractical and I don't think I would be able to afford or provide the care each child deserves if I had that many, which is sad but I know my limitations).

carly2803 · 16/11/2018 14:51

Currently expecting number one!

I would like 2! Possibly 3...... :)

CherLooksYoungerThanMe · 16/11/2018 14:52

I planned for two. Ended up with three - second pregnancy was twins. I'd never have had three if numbers 2 and 3 hadn't arrived together.

TwittleBee · 16/11/2018 14:52

NameChangeToAvoidBeingFound I know what you mean, I've always pictured myself being a mum to a large group of kids. But not sure practically we could run a minibus to get them all about and fund clubs for them all to do let alone feed and clothe them all well

Chrisinthemorning · 16/11/2018 14:57

Happy with one.
I know 2 families with 4, it looks absolutely exhausting and is total chaos.
Most people I know have 2 or 3.
