How do you wash broccoli?

Broccoli is my families favourite vegetable but I'm finding more and more bugs in it recently. It's really off putting.

How do you make sure you wash it good enough? Also would it hurt if a bug snook in?!?

Wash broccoli? I don't think there's one vegetable I wash 🤔

Probably not the answer you're after!

dementedpixie · 14/11/2018 16:15

Cut it into florets, put in colander and rinse under the tap

TheQueef · 14/11/2018 16:15

Do you boil it? Nowt dangerous survives being boiled.

I'm an unwasher too.

I don't wash it either (not helpful I know!)....

Kyratzis · 14/11/2018 16:20

Oh I never thought of washing it, as I always cook it. I think it's fine to eat cooked insects... I wash vegetables if they look muddy, but my broccoli never does.

halfwitpicker · 14/11/2018 16:21

Snook in?

Kool4katz · 14/11/2018 16:22

If you steam or boil it, that will kill any bugs sneaking around looking for a forever home. Grin

WindyScales · 14/11/2018 16:25

I chop into florets and rinse in a bowl with water. I also add salt if it’s organic as you gets lots more slugs/bugs which isn’t very appetising

House4 · 14/11/2018 16:25

I cut into florets and run under the tap.
Just look at it as extra protein if you eat them?

flubbadubble · 14/11/2018 16:27

Just a run under the cold tap as florets. I was a non washer until I found 2 rather large larvae during the summer Envy

LimitIsUp · 14/11/2018 16:27

I have not found bugs in broccoli - is it my eyesight?

Justgivemesomepeace · 14/11/2018 16:28

I never wash broccoli. Bugs? Omg. That's put me right off.

JaneJeffer · 14/11/2018 16:28

If you're worried about bugs let it sit in salt water for a few minutes then rinse.

PickAChew · 14/11/2018 16:30

Upside down. I find grit more of a problem than bugs, tbh. That stuff never bloody washes out.

Loyaultemelie · 14/11/2018 16:35

Hmm bugs at this time of the year 🤔 I never bother usually as bug seasons over post summer but I suppose it has been unusually mild. Ah well it's steamed or boiled (and well salted in this house!) and no creepers have survived.

Spankyoumuchly · 14/11/2018 17:17

If it has bugs in it I throw it away.

MrsGollach · 14/11/2018 17:19

Cut in to pieces and soak in water (several times)

SoyDora · 14/11/2018 17:19

I don’t.

ileclerc · 14/11/2018 17:20

I've never washed broccoli.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 14/11/2018 17:20

I wash it in a pan of boiling water Grin

Highlandgimmer · 14/11/2018 17:33

I soak in water with a bit of salt then rinse.

sonlypuppyfat · 14/11/2018 17:37

I cooked a lovely head of broccoli once and found a huge green caterpillar when I drained it 😩

PazRaz10 · 14/11/2018 17:38

I don't wash broccoli, or any veg for that matter. I don't wash fruit either Shock

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 14/11/2018 17:40

I don't, I am another non-washer.
