I’ve just been listening to Disturbeds version of Sound of Silence and I have to say I honestly love it more than the original, it nearly brought me to tears this evening and I find it so emotional, however I can’t really think of any other songs where the cover is better than the original, so is there any songs you love more than the original version?

I prefer the Whitney version too, sorry.

Metallia Turn the Page is miles better than teh original by Bob Seger

I love both, it depends on my mood but if I fancy a giggle I'll listen to 'My name is Strange' by Sage Francis which is a bonkers take on Turn the page. It's full of 'in' jokes and comments.

This Mortal Coil's version on Tim Buckley's Song to the Siren. Quite like George Michael's version too.

Artesia I totally agree with you about the Dolly version.

Absolutely agree! Matt Cardle's version of Hit me Baby was so beautiful , I probably listen to it once a week on Youtube!

Ispatienceavirtue · 13/11/2018 23:14

Oh and sorry Artesia but definitely prefer Whitney's version!

MawkishTwaddle · 13/11/2018 23:25

Glenn Campbell's cover of U2's All I Want Is You.

Kate Rusby's version of You Belong To Me.

And I prefer Rod Stewart's version of Tom Waits' Downtown Train.

I came on to say Hurt and Tainted Love.

I have a whole album of Depeche Mode covers but the best DM cover is Rammstein doing Stripped. Normally I'd say you can't beat DM but this version does, especially live.

SouthwarkSkaters · 13/11/2018 23:29

Came here to say Cake’s version of I will survive but I see that I’m late with that one Grin

I prefer The Corrs’ version of Everybody hurts (runs and hides).

Take that’s version of How deep is your love.

Tom Chaplin’s version of Cheap Thrills.

Joss Stone Fell In Love With A Boy (vs The White Stripes' version)

PawneeParksDept · 13/11/2018 23:35

Such Great Heights by The Postal Service covered by Iron and Wine

Simon and Garfunkels America covered by First Aid Kit really worth checking out, sends a shiver down the spine and made Paul Simon cry

IAmNotLikeThem · 13/11/2018 23:38

"I Can't Make You Love Me" by George Michael. Better than Bonnie Raitt, though marginal.

Also agree Bryan Ferry nailed "Jealous Guy".

Slowtrain2dawn · 13/11/2018 23:40

Everything But The Girls cover of Rod Stewart's I don't want talk about it.

Slowtrain2dawn · 13/11/2018 23:44

And Arctic Monkeys doing Love Machine. Hilarious.

ClosestThingToCrazy · 13/11/2018 23:59

I prefer Peter Gabriel's version of 'The Book of Love' to the Magnetic Fields original, and the Everything But The Girl version of several things, particularly 'Love is Strange'.

PhilODox · 14/11/2018 00:06

Thirding Futureheads' Hounds of Love

Foo Fighters Walk is v different to Pantera's Wink

dangerrabbit · 14/11/2018 00:10

Soft Cell Tainted love
Johnny Cash Personal Jesus
Pet Shop Boys Always on my mind

gluteustothemaximus · 14/11/2018 00:15

Behind Blue Eyes originally The Who but I love Limp Bizkits version better.

gluteustothemaximus · 14/11/2018 00:18

Also Ed Sheerans Shape of You sung a billion times better by J.Fla.

Corcra · 14/11/2018 00:20

I’m going to enjoy listening to these tomorrow. So many good covers.
J Cash’s hurt,
George Michaels can’t make you love me,
Nirvanas man who sold the world.
I really love Kate bush but Albert Niland’s cover of wuthering heights is just so beautiful.

RamblinRosie · 14/11/2018 00:22

I love Lissie’ s version of Stairway to Heaven, not better but different. Similarly anything by the Leningrad Cowboys.

LouiseCollins28 · 14/11/2018 00:24

John Lennon’s Imagine covered by Ray Charles takes some beating for me

MoonMaybe · 14/11/2018 00:32

Jimi Hendrix's cover of All Along The Watchtower and I absolutely fell in love with The Waterboy's cover of Purple Rain after hearing it live on the radio a few years ago.
